Game Recap

In their final preseason game on Friday night at GEHA Field at Arrowhead Stadium, the Chicago Bears came from behind in the fourth quarter to upset the Kansas City Chiefs 29-27. The game featured an impressive start by Chiefs’ star quarterback Patrick Mahomes, who looked sharp leading the first-team offense in just over a quarter of play.
Mahomes completed 8 of 13 passes for 143 yards and a touchdown, connecting with Rashee Rice for a scoring reception and nearly throwing a second touchdown that was dropped by running back Kareem Hunt. The Chiefs built a dominant 20-3 lead early in the game but pulled most of their starters in the second half.
The Bears struggled early on, with their starting quarterback Caleb Williams facing pressure and being forced to punt on his first two possessions. Williams found his stride late in the second quarter, finishing the half strong with a touchdown pass to Rome Odunze to narrow the gap to 20-10 by halftime.
After Williams exited the game, Bears backup quarterback Tyson Bagent took over and ignited the offense. Bagent completed 20 of 28 passes for 212 yards and threw three touchdowns, including the game-winning score to Jahdae Walker with only three seconds remaining.
Chicago battled through running back injuries but received steady production from DeAndre Swift, who carried the ball seven times for 28 yards. On special teams, Bears kicker Cairo Santos had a mixed night, pushing a 47-yard field goal attempt off the upright and later having an extra point blocked.
Kansas City faced their own injury-related absences, sitting key players like wide receiver Marquise Brown and others, focusing on player health heading into the regular season. The Chiefs will open their season in Brazil against the Los Angeles Chargers on September 5, while the Bears prepare to host the Minnesota Vikings on September 8.
