New York running back entering a stadium for a Week 8 fantasy football outlook

Breece Hall Not Expected to Play vs. Raiders: Braelon Allen Fantasy Outlook

3 min read

New York Jets running back Breece Hall is not expected to play against the Las Vegas Raiders in Week 8 because of a quadriceps injury, NFL.com reported Sunday morning, citing NFL Network Insider Ian Rapoport. The official inactive list had not yet been released as of 10:03 a.m. CST, so fantasy managers should treat this as a strong pregame expectation rather than the final team designation.

The likely absence would be Hall's fifth straight missed game and would leave Braelon Allen positioned for another start. Allen has already shown that the replacement role can support a reliable fantasy workload, and his recent receiving usage gives him more than a touchdown-or-bust path to points.

What changed Sunday morning

Hall entered the weekend as questionable after being limited in all three Jets practices. New York's final injury report listed the quad issue throughout the week. Allen was limited Wednesday with an ankle injury but practiced fully Thursday and Friday and received no game-status designation, clearing the way for him to handle the lead role if Hall is officially inactive.

The Raiders' injury report also listed Hall as questionable and Allen without a final designation. That agreement between the clubs' official reports, plus the Sunday pregame report, makes Allen the player fantasy managers should prepare to start.

Braelon Allen's four-start surge

Allen has started every game since Week 4 and has rushed for 357 yards in that four-game span, an average of 89.3 per game. The Jets said that total ranked second in the NFL over those four weeks. Allen also produced 421 yards from scrimmage and 14 runs of at least 10 yards during the stretch.

His most recent performance was his best all-around fantasy result of the run: 17 carries for 104 yards plus six catches for 30 yards against Miami. For the season, Allen has 418 rushing yards and two touchdowns on 91 attempts, a 4.6-yard average, along with 15 receptions for 75 yards.

Week 8 fantasy football advice

Allen belongs in most starting lineups as a strong RB2 with RB1 upside based on volume. He has logged at least 16 touches in each of his four starts and has topped 100 scrimmage yards in three of them. His six-catch Week 7 performance is especially important in PPR formats because it shows that a negative game script does not automatically remove him from the weekly plan.

Hall should remain on fantasy benches while managers wait for the official inactive announcement. If the final list confirms the expected absence, there is no decision to make: Hall cannot be used. If the report changes unexpectedly and Hall is active, managers would need to reassess Allen's ceiling, but Sunday's reporting makes that the less likely outcome.

Isaiah Davis is the deeper-league contingency option. He has only 10 carries for 29 yards this season, so he should not be treated as a direct replacement for Allen's expected workload. Davis is better viewed as a bench stash or a low-volume emergency play unless the Jets announce another backfield change.

Game impact for Jets vs. Raiders

New York can keep the offense on schedule by leaning on Allen's downhill running and short-area receiving. His ability to create chunk gains has mattered: Allen's 14 runs of 10-plus yards since becoming the starter were the most in the league over that span, according to the Jets.

For Las Vegas, the defensive priority becomes limiting early-down efficiency and forcing longer passing situations. The Raiders cannot assume Allen is only a power runner; his 30 receiving yards last week and 75 receiving yards this season show that he can stay involved on passing downs.

What fantasy managers should monitor next

Official inactives for the 1 p.m. ET kickoff are due about 90 minutes before the game. Fantasy managers should check the final list before lineup lock, but the practical preparation is clear: move Allen into the RB2 range, keep Hall on the bench, and use Davis only in very deep formats.

This article will remain accurate to the distinction available at publication: Hall was reported as not expected to play, but had not yet been officially declared inactive.
