Broncos Sign Eli Pancol: Week 8 Fantasy Impact vs. Chiefs

The Denver Broncos added wide receiver Eli Pancol to their practice squad on Tuesday, October 27, giving the 5-2 club another developmental pass catcher before its Week 8 rematch with the Kansas City Chiefs.

Denver announced the Pancol signing and released defensive back Ugo Amadi from the practice squad in the corresponding move. The transaction adds depth, but it does not place Pancol on the 53-man roster or make him an immediate fantasy football option.

What Eli Pancol brings to Denver

Pancol is a 6-foot-3, 205-pound receiver who played five seasons at Duke. The Broncos credit him with 130 college receptions for 1,710 yards and 14 touchdowns. He went undrafted in 2025 and spent time with Jacksonville and Indianapolis before landing in Denver.

His most recent game production came in the 2026 preseason with the Colts, when he caught four passes for 47 yards. Indianapolis released Pancol from its practice squad on October 20, and Denver signed him one week later.

The important limitation is straightforward: Pancol has not appeared in a regular-season NFL game. A practice-squad signing can prepare with the team, but Pancol would need a standard game-day elevation or a promotion to the active roster before he could play.

Broncos wide receiver depth chart and fantasy impact

Denver's established receiving hierarchy remains unchanged. The Broncos' official team statistics list Jaylen Waddle with a team-high 26 catches for 276 yards and one touchdown through seven games. Courtland Sutton has 16 catches for 168 yards and a touchdown, while Marvin Mims Jr. has seven receptions for 82 yards.

Pancol joins a crowded developmental group. The official Broncos roster also lists Michael Bandy, Kolbe Katsis, Dane Key and Cameron Ross among the practice-squad receivers. That reserve competition matters more than Pancol's raw athletic profile when projecting whether he will reach the game-day roster.

  • Eli Pancol: Watchlist only in deep dynasty formats. He should not be added in ordinary redraft leagues unless Denver first promotes or elevates him and then gives him meaningful routes.

  • Jaylen Waddle: Remains the safest Broncos receiver for fantasy lineups because he leads the club in catches and receiving yards.

  • Courtland Sutton: Keeps touchdown and contested-catch value, but the current receiving volume is not large enough to treat him as an automatic start in shallow leagues.

  • Marvin Mims Jr.: Still carries the best explosive-play upside behind the veterans. Pancol's arrival does not reduce Mims' roster or fantasy standing.

  • Broncos D/ST: The release of a practice-squad defensive back does not materially change the Week 8 defensive projection by itself. Active-roster availability will matter more.

Why the Week 8 timing matters

The Broncos host Kansas City on Sunday, November 1 at 4:25 p.m. ET. Denver's official schedule lists the Chiefs matchup as the current Week 8 game, with the Broncos entering at 5-2 after a 30-16 win in Arizona.

Pancol is best viewed as a contingency option during the preparation week. If Denver needs an extra receiver for practice or special-teams work, it now has another player familiar with an NFL system. Nothing in the transaction itself says Pancol will be elevated for Kansas City, and fantasy managers should not project targets before that threshold is crossed.

The strongest counterargument is that a 6-foot-3 receiver with 4.40 speed can earn a role quickly if injuries create an opening. That is possible. But the evidence available now is a practice-squad contract, four preseason catches and no regular-season appearances. The appropriate fantasy response is to monitor, not speculate aggressively.

What to watch next

  • Denver's first Week 8 practice report, especially any wide-receiver limitations.

  • Saturday's roster transactions, when a standard elevation would signal that Pancol may dress.

  • Sunday's inactive list, which determines whether any promoted receiver is actually available.

  • Route participation and targets if Pancol eventually reaches the field; one elevation alone would not establish fantasy value.

Bottom line

The Broncos signed a developmental receiver, not a new fantasy starter. Pancol gives Denver another practice option before the Chiefs game and brings productive college experience, but the existing wideout hierarchy remains intact. Waddle, Sutton and Mims are still the names that matter for Week 8; Pancol belongs on the transaction watchlist until an active-roster move and real offensive usage say otherwise.

Factual cutoff: October 28, 2026 at 4:40 a.m. CDT. This article should be updated if Denver elevates Pancol, changes the active receiver room or publishes a new Week 8 injury designation.
