Huntley Closes, Sanders Struggles
The Cleveland Browns capped their preseason with a last-second 19-17 win over the Los Angeles Rams. But the real story wasn’t the final score — it was how the Browns’ crowded quarterback room looked with one game to go before the regular season.
Huntley’s Clutch Drive Seals It
With just two minutes left, head coach Kevin Stefanski called on Tyler Huntley over rookie Shedeur Sanders to lead the final drive. Huntley rewarded that trust, moving Cleveland 46 yards in six plays, aided by penalties and a key scramble, before setting up Andre Szmyt’s 37-yard game-winner.
Sanders’ Growing Pains
Shedeur Sanders followed up his hot debut with a rough night:
3-of-6 passing, 14 yards
Sacked five times
Just one first down in five series
The lowlight: a 24-yard sack in the fourth quarter. Though disappointed he didn’t get the last drive, Sanders backed Huntley afterward: “If anybody else would do it, it would be him.”
Browns’ QB Depth Impresses
Joe Flacco (Week 1 starter): 9-of-10, 71 yards, 1 TD. Looked sharp early, hitting rookie TE Harold Fannin Jr. for a score.
Dillon Gabriel (rookie): 12-of-19, 129 yards, 1 TD. Once again excelled in the two-minute drill, showing poise.
Tyler Huntley: Managed the game-winning possession.
Stefanski hinted Cleveland could carry four quarterbacks into the regular season.
Rams’ Spotlight: Dresser Winn
QB Dresser Winn delivered after a slow start, finishing 15-of-23 for 190 yards and a TD. He showed touch on deep throws and composure in extended drives, giving Sean McVay confidence in his depth behind Stetson Bennett.
Key Injury
The Browns lost starting center Ethan Pocic with a knee injury on the opening drive. He’ll undergo an MRI.
By the Numbers
Here’s a quick look at the key stat lines:
Team/QB | Comp-Att | Yards | TD | INT | Notes |
Joe Flacco (CLE) | 9-10 | 71 | 1 | 0 | Week 1 starter, looked sharp |
Dillon Gabriel (CLE) | 12-19 | 129 | 1 | 0 | Strong 2-minute drill |
Tyler Huntley (CLE) | 1-1 | 7 | 0 | 0 | Led game-winning drive |

What’s Next
Browns: Host Bengals on Sept. 7
Rams: Open vs. Texans at home on Sept. 7
Takeaway: Flacco looks steady, Gabriel is pushing, Huntley showed clutch value, and Sanders is learning the hard way. Cleveland might actually need all four.
