Chiefs at Seahawks Week 7 Guide: Turnovers, Walker and the Sunday Night Swing

9 min read

Football Nation answer: Kansas City has the more stable offensive profile, but Seattle has the rest, home field and pass defense to make this a true one possession Sunday night game. The matchup turns on whether Seattle can protect the football against a Chiefs defense that has survived without a high sack total, and whether Kansas City can keep Patrick Mahomes clean enough to punish aggressive coverage. At the current number, Football Nation leans to the Chiefs plus the points and projects a narrow Kansas City win.

The practical fantasy conclusion is clearer than the winner call. Patrick Mahomes, Kenneth Walker III, Travis Kelce and Jaxon Smith-Njigba belong in lineups. Sam Darnold is a matchup dependent starter rather than an automatic one because his seven interceptions are the defining risk. The most important uncertainty is still ahead: Kansas City plays Los Angeles later Sunday, and neither club has filed a Week 7 injury report. This guide uses verified information available at 12:12 p.m. Central on Sunday, October 18, and it must be refreshed after Chiefs–Chargers and after the first Week 7 practice reports.

Game details and viewing information

Kansas City Chiefs at Seattle Seahawks, NFL Week 7. Kickoff is Sunday, October 25, 2026 at 7:20 p.m. Central, which is 5:20 p.m. Pacific, at Lumen Field in Seattle. NBC carries Sunday Night Football, Peacock streams it, and the official Seattle schedule also lists NFL+ as a viewing option. Kansas City travels west after a Week 6 home date with the Chargers. Seattle gets a ten day interval after its Thursday night overtime loss at Denver.

The preliminary Seattle forecast checked Sunday at 12:12 p.m. Central calls for mostly clear conditions near kickoff, about 57 degrees, with temperatures easing into the mid 50s. Lumen Field is open air, so wind and rain still belong on the game day check. The current forecast does not justify lowering either passing game or the total.

Records, form and standings context

Kansas City enters Sunday at 4 and 0, first in the AFC West and the AFC, with its Week 6 result still pending. The Chiefs were the conference's last unbeaten team entering their bye. They beat Miami 24 to 10, then survived Las Vegas 30 to 27 as Kenneth Walker III ran for 177 yards and two touchdowns. The formula has been balanced offense, red zone finishing and a plus five turnover margin.

Seattle is 3 and 3, second in the NFC West after consecutive losses. The Seahawks lost 32 to 29 to San Francisco after four giveaways produced 21 points, then fell 17 to 14 in overtime at Denver when another late Sam Darnold interception set up the winning field goal. Seattle's defense has kept both losses close enough to win. The offense has not protected that work.

The rest edge favors Seattle. It played Thursday and stays home, while Kansas City must complete its Week 6 game, review it and travel two time zones west. The meaningful recent head to head result is Kansas City's 24 to 10 home win on December 24, 2022. The last meeting in Seattle was a 38 to 31 Seahawks win in 2018. Those games offer atmosphere and coaching context, but the current personnel is different enough that they should not drive the pick.

Current team comparison

Kansas City's official statistics through four games show 1,648 total offensive yards, 6.3 yards per play, 649 rushing yards and 1,037 passing yards. The Chiefs converted 22 of 50 third downs, a 44 percent rate, and scored 14 touchdowns. They averaged 29.5 points while allowing 19.3. ESPN lists Mahomes at 1,037 passing yards, nine touchdowns and two interceptions, while the Chiefs list Walker at 537 rushing yards.

Seattle's official statistics through six games show 1,993 total offensive yards, 5.1 yards per play, 643 rushing yards and a 24 for 74 third down line, about 32.4 percent. The Seahawks have scored 148 points, 24.7 per game, and allowed 122, 20.3 per game. ESPN lists Darnold at 1,033 passing yards with seven touchdowns and seven interceptions. Jaxon Smith-Njigba leads the league with 49 catches, 717 yards and seven touchdowns.

TeamRankings' third down table and the clubs' official totals point to the clearest situational gap: Kansas City sustains drives, while Seattle too often reaches third and long. Seattle's defense has compensated by limiting explosive damage and collecting sacks, but the offense has repeatedly handed opponents short fields. The Chiefs' four sacks through Week 5 were the league low, yet their 24 percent pressure rate was closer to the middle. That distinction matters against Darnold. Kansas City does not need five sacks if pressure forces one bad throw.

How Kansas City can win

Kansas City's cleanest path is to make the game run through Walker without becoming predictable. His acceleration punishes light boxes, and his receiving role gives Mahomes an answer when Seattle rotates late. Sustained early down success also protects a receiving group that entered Week 6 without Rashee Rice and Tyquan Thornton. If the Chiefs reach manageable third downs, Mahomes can stress the middle with Kelce and force Seattle's linebackers to declare their leverage.

The counter is Seattle's speed and home noise. Kansas City's tackles must handle the snap count and the Seahawks' simulated pressure menu. A loud road environment can erase an offensive line advantage through false starts and communication errors. The Chiefs should use motion, screens and quick throws early, then take vertical shots only after Seattle begins driving downhill on Walker.

How Seattle can win

Seattle must create a game in which Darnold does not have to rescue third and long. Emanuel Wilson has 303 rushing yards and should get enough early down work to keep play action credible, but the Seahawks cannot simply run into loaded boxes. Smith-Njigba is the matchup centerpiece. His ability to win outside and from the slot can force Kansas City to choose between safety help and extra bodies near the line.

Mike Macdonald has publicly kept Darnold as QB1, which is the right decision for continuity, but the offense needs fewer high leverage throws into crowded middle zones. Kansas City's coverage has allowed efficiency at times, yet its plus five turnover margin changes the risk calculation. Seattle's upset path is not a shootout. It is a field position game with one or fewer giveaways, four quarters of pressure on Mahomes and at least one explosive Smith-Njigba play.

Injuries and availability

Kansas City's final Week 6 report ruled out Rice with hamstring and knee injuries and tackle Josh Simmons with a back injury. Cornerback L'Jarius Sneed was questionable with a knee issue. Mahomes was a full participant with a knee listing, and defensive lineman Peter Woods finished the week as a full participant after a neck issue. Thornton's dislocated ankle remains a major long term receiving concern. Justin Watson and Andrew Armstrong were elevated for Week 6, showing how Kansas City planned to cover the missing receiver snaps.

Seattle's Week 6 absences included linebacker Drake Thomas with an ankle injury, linebacker Chazz Surratt with a calf injury and running back Zach Charbonnet as he continued his knee recovery. Tight end Elijah Arroyo left the Denver game with a shoulder injury and was listed doubtful to return. Tyrice Knight replaced Thomas. Seattle cleared Smith-Njigba and Leonard Williams to play in Denver, important evidence for the Week 7 baseline.

None of those Week 6 labels is a Week 7 designation. The Wednesday, Thursday and Friday practice reports will establish the actual status for Chiefs–Seahawks. If Rice returns, Kansas City's route distribution changes. If Simmons remains out, Seattle's edge pressure becomes more attractive. If Thomas or Arroyo cannot practice, Seattle loses either defensive range or an underneath receiving option.

Market snapshot and price sensitivity

FanDuel Research showed Seattle minus 2.5 at minus 114, Kansas City plus 2.5 at minus 106, Seattle moneyline minus 144, Kansas City moneyline plus 122 and a total of 44.5 at the 12:12 p.m. Central check. The over was minus 104 and the under minus 118. These are published source snapshots, not a promise that the same price is executable for every reader.

A 44.5 total with Seattle favored by 2.5 implies roughly Seattle 23.5 and Kansas City 21. Football Nation's position changes at Seattle minus 3. At minus 2.5, the Chiefs have the more attractive side because Mahomes, Walker and the turnover margin offer several paths to a one score result. At Chiefs plus 3 or better, the value improves. At Seattle minus 1 or pick'em, the market would be pricing too little of Seattle's rest and home field.

The total is more sensitive to personnel than the side. A Rice return, a healthy Kansas City offensive line and calm Seattle weather would push the fair number upward. Continued Kansas City receiver absences, wind or rain, and a conservative Seattle plan support the under. Football Nation will not treat an opening number as a live quote after the Week 6 results arrive.

Player workload and prop watch list

Real Week 7 player prop prices were not publicly available at the check. The following are workload evaluations and trigger points, not bets without posted markets.

  • Patrick Mahomes passing yards: the over becomes interesting at 254.5 or lower if Josh Simmons is active and Seattle does not regain every injured defender. The case against it is Kansas City's ability to win through Walker and a compressed passing tree.

  • Sam Darnold interceptions: an over 0.5 market is worth evaluation only at a reasonable price. He has seven interceptions, but Kansas City's low sack finish rate is the strongest counterargument.

  • Kenneth Walker III rushing yards: 74.5 is the initial decision line. His 537 yards through four games demand respect, though Seattle's front and possible negative game script can cap volume.

  • Emanuel Wilson rushing yards: 54.5 is the early threshold. Seattle needs the run for down and distance control, but Kansas City's light box run defense has been efficient.

  • Travis Kelce receptions: 5.5 is playable only if the price is not heavily shaded and Rice remains out. The counter is Seattle forcing throws outside and bracketing the middle.

  • Jaxon Smith-Njigba receiving yards: 79.5 is the first look. His 717 yards and seven touchdowns support the volume, while Kansas City's best response is safety help and longer drives that reduce Seattle possessions.

  • Anytime touchdown markets: wait for Rice, Arroyo and the final running back statuses. Smith-Njigba and Walker own the clearest current scoring roles, but no price should be accepted before the market and active rosters are visible.

Fantasy football guidance

Scoring format: full PPR. Start Mahomes as a QB1 and Walker as a high end RB1. Kelce remains a TE1 because the receiver injuries concentrate high value targets. If Rice is active, he returns as a flex with upside rather than an automatic ceiling play until his route share is clear. Watson and Armstrong are deep league contingency options, not standard lineup starts.

Start Smith-Njigba as a WR1 regardless of matchup. Wilson is a volume based flex, especially if Charbonnet remains unavailable. Darnold is a high variance QB2 or superflex starter. His pass volume and Smith-Njigba connection create upside, but the interception trend lowers his floor. Arroyo is a sit until his shoulder status and role are confirmed. Jason Myers is viable in leagues that reward long field goals because Seattle has stalled often enough to create attempts.

For replacements, Chiefs managers should monitor Rice's Wednesday participation before adding a secondary wideout. Seahawks managers should keep George Holani and the active backup runner on the watch list if Charbonnet misses another week. Do not assume a practice squad elevation will repeat until the Saturday transaction wire confirms it.

Football Nation prediction

Prediction: Chiefs 24, Seahawks 23. Kansas City has the better early down offense, the better turnover profile and the quarterback most capable of solving a late third down. Seattle's rest, defense and home field make the Seahawks a credible favorite, but the current price asks Darnold to play cleaner than he has in the past two games.

Strongest counterargument: Seattle can collapse the pocket without blitzing, force Mahomes into short throws and make Kansas City's depleted receivers win outside. If that happens while Smith-Njigba creates one explosive touchdown, Seattle can control the game without asking Darnold for 35 attempts.

Seattle's upset path is simple: one or fewer giveaways, at least four sacks or drive ending pressures, and a rushing success rate that keeps third downs manageable. The fact that would change the Football Nation call is a material Kansas City injury in Week 6, especially to Mahomes or the offensive line, or a Week 7 report that returns Rice and Simmons while Seattle loses a core defender. A decisive Chiefs performance against Los Angeles would also likely erase the current plus price.

Game day checklist

  • Confirm the official Week 7 Friday injury report for Rice, Simmons, Sneed, Thomas, Surratt and Arroyo.

  • Check Saturday roster elevations and any injured reserve activations.

  • Review the inactive lists about 90 minutes before kickoff.

  • Refresh the Lumen Field wind and rain forecast.

  • Recheck spread, total, moneyline and every player prop at an actual executable source.

  • Confirm whether Seattle still offers minus 2.5 or whether the market crosses the key number of three.
