Final Friday status — Oct. 30, 2026

Confirmed: The Rams listed Colby Parkinson as questionable with a rib injury for Week 8 against the Chargers. Football Nation conclusion: Treat Parkinson as a conditional tight end option and keep a replacement available through the late window.

Next checkpoint: Check the Rams’ inactive list and any confirmed pregame limitation before locking him into a lineup.

Editorial note: This Friday update controls over the earlier practice progression retained below as dated context.

Updated October 29, 2026 at 9:00 a.m. CT. Los Angeles Rams tight end Colby Parkinson did not practice Wednesday because of a rib injury, according to the team. Head coach Sean McVay said somebody rolled back on Parkinson during the Week 7 win over Las Vegas. The Rams have not issued a game designation for him.

Why Parkinson's status matters now

Parkinson has become more involved just as fantasy managers started searching for dependable tight end volume. He caught five passes for 31 yards and a touchdown in Week 6, then five for 48 yards in Week 7. Those two games account for 10 of his 14 receptions and 79 of his 103 receiving yards this season.

The timing also matters because rookie tight end Terrance Ferguson remains on injured reserve with an ankle injury. McVay said the Rams will not open Ferguson's 21-day practice window this week, so Ferguson is not a Week 8 alternative.

Rams tight end depth chart and 2026 production

  • Tyler Higbee: 26 receptions, 260 yards, one touchdown

  • Colby Parkinson: 14 receptions, 103 yards, one touchdown

  • Davis Allen: 10 receptions, 83 yards, two touchdowns

  • Terrance Ferguson: seven receptions, 63 yards, one touchdown; remains on injured reserve

The season totals show why this should not be treated as a simple one-for-one fantasy handoff. Higbee leads the group in catches and yards, while Allen has converted limited volume into two touchdowns. Parkinson's recent surge is meaningful, but Los Angeles has continued to use multiple tight ends.

Fantasy football impact for Week 8

Football Nation opinion, using half-PPR scoring: if Parkinson practices fully by Friday and avoids a game designation, he remains a touchdown-dependent TE2 rather than an automatic starter. His recent catch totals create streaming appeal, but the committee and modest season-long yardage cap the floor.

If Parkinson is inactive, Higbee would be the safest Rams tight end to consider because he already leads the position group in receptions and yards. He would still profile as a low-end TE2, not a must-start option. Allen would become a deeper touchdown dart after scoring twice this season, but managers should not assume Parkinson's recent targets automatically transfer to Allen.

The strongest counterargument is that the Rams could simply spread Parkinson's work among Higbee, Allen and the wide receivers. That is the most likely reason to avoid aggressive waiver spending on any one replacement before the final injury report.

Week 8 matchup and what to monitor

The Rams host the Los Angeles Chargers at SoFi Stadium on Sunday, November 1 at 1:05 p.m. PT. The next actionable checkpoints are Parkinson's Thursday participation, his Friday practice level and the final game designation. A limited Thursday session would be progress, but Friday availability and any official designation will carry more weight for fantasy lineups.

Fantasy plan: keep Parkinson on the bench until the Rams show he is trending toward active status. If he sits, prefer Higbee as a short-term TE2 and treat Allen as a touchdown-dependent option in deep leagues.
