Cowboys at Packers Week 6 Guide: Dak Faces Green Bay Pressure Without Josh Jacobs
Fact check cutoff: October 16, 2026 at 6:15 p.m. Central. Statistics cover the first five games. Injury designations are from Green Bay’s final Friday report. Betting prices are a published DraftKings snapshot, not a promise that the same price is currently executable.
The Dallas Cowboys visit the Green Bay Packers at Lambeau Field on Sunday, October 18 at 7:20 p.m. Central on NBC. Dallas enters 2 and 3 after a 24 to 16 loss to Tampa Bay. Green Bay enters 3 and 2 after a 31 to 7 win over Chicago. The records make this a useful early season checkpoint, but the matchup is less about the standings than the collision between Dak Prescott and Green Bay’s pressure plan.
Jordan Love arrives from his best game of the season. He completed 25 of 31 passes for 367 yards, two touchdowns and no interceptions against Chicago. Prescott has produced 1,381 passing yards with nine touchdowns and three interceptions through five games. Both offenses can create explosive gains, and both defenses give the opposing quarterback a clear reason to attack.
The matchup that decides the night
Green Bay has generated pressure on 42.2 percent of opposing dropbacks, the fifth highest rate in the league through five weeks, while blitzing 33.2 percent of the time. Prescott said he expects the Packers to test Dallas after Tampa Bay pressured him 13 times. That is the correct starting point for the game plan. Dallas must identify the fifth rusher, get the ball out on time and punish aggressive coverage with CeeDee Lamb, George Pickens and Jake Ferguson.
The counter is that Green Bay does not need to win every snap up front. A few hurried third downs can change the possession count. The Cowboys should answer with motion, quick throws and enough Javonte Williams work to keep play action credible. Green Bay has allowed 127.6 rushing yards per game, tied for eighth most in the league, while Dallas has averaged only 81.6. The opportunity exists, but the Cowboys have not yet proved they can sustain that answer.
Williams has 74 carries for 276 yards and six rushing touchdowns, plus 17 catches for 94 yards and another score. His touchdown production is real, but his 3.7 yards per carry warns against treating every touch as efficient offense. Dallas needs useful early down gains, not volume for its own sake.
What changes without Josh Jacobs
Josh Jacobs is not available for this Week 6 game. His return is tied to Week 7, so Green Bay must handle the Dallas matchup with MarShawn Lloyd, Kaleb Johnson and Pierre Strong Jr. in the backfield. That removes the Packers’ most trusted volume runner and creates uncertainty in short yardage, pass protection and late game clock control.
The absence does not make Green Bay one dimensional. Love has 1,408 passing yards, ten touchdowns and three interceptions through five games. Christian Watson has 26 catches for 474 yards and six scores, and Matthew Golden has 24 catches for 397 yards and two touchdowns. Green Bay can replace rushing volume with spacing and yards after the catch, but its backs still have to protect Love when Dallas brings pressure.
Dallas also has to finish plays. Through five games the Cowboys were the only defense without an interception and had allowed 37 explosive runs or passes, tied for fourth most. Love’s willingness to push the ball downfield makes every missed assignment costly. The Cowboys cannot rely on a Jacobs absence to solve their coverage problems.
Final injury report
Green Bay listed Aaron Banks, Anthony Campbell, Brandon Cisse, Jacob Monk and Savion Williams as questionable. Skyy Moore, Benjamin St Juste, Jonathan Ford and Javon Hargrave were ruled out. Jordon Riley was doubtful. Keisean Nixon, Lukas Van Ness, Evan Williams and Devonte Wyatt carried no game designation after appearing on the report.
Dallas ruled out Cobie Durant and Drew Shelton. DeMarvion Overshown, L.T. Overton, Joey Porter Jr. and Ameer Speed were questionable. CeeDee Lamb, Tyler Guyton and Tyler Smith were among the players without a final designation. Sunday’s inactive list remains the decisive checkpoint, especially for the Cowboys secondary and Green Bay’s offensive line.
Fantasy football consequences
These recommendations assume full PPR scoring. Prescott remains a lower end QB1 because the likely pass volume and Dallas receiver quality can overcome some pressure, but the sack and turnover risk lowers his floor. Lamb remains a WR1. Pickens is a volatile WR2 or flex whose value rises if Green Bay tilts coverage toward Lamb. Ferguson, who has 15 catches for 102 yards and three touchdowns, remains a usable tight end because quick middle targets can be Prescott’s pressure answer.
Williams is an RB2 with touchdown equity, but the current rushing efficiency keeps him out of automatic top tier territory. Love is a QB1 option in a matchup that rewards aggressive passing. Watson is a strong WR2, and Golden is a flex with a meaningful explosive play ceiling. Green Bay’s backfield is a committee with uncertain pass protection and goal line ownership, so every Packers runner carries a wider range of outcomes than Jacobs would.
Spread, total and price sensitivity
A DraftKings snapshot checked Friday evening listed Green Bay minus 1.5, Dallas plus 1.5 and a total of 53.5. The listed moneyline was roughly Green Bay minus 120 and Dallas plus 100. Those are source snapshots, not executable guarantees. Prices can move before kickoff.
Football Nation’s view is a pass on the side at Green Bay minus 1.5. Dallas becomes more interesting at plus 2.5 or better. Green Bay becomes more interesting at minus 1 or a small plus price. The total already reflects both quarterbacks and both secondaries. An under case becomes more attractive only at 54.5 or higher, while an over case loses appeal below the current number because Green Bay may have to manufacture its rushing offense.
The moneyline offers little separation from the spread. A bettor who agrees with the narrow Green Bay projection should not pay a materially worse price merely to avoid 1.5 points. There is no guarantee and no sponsored recommendation here.
Player prop board
The separate Football Nation player prop article owns the detailed passing, rushing and receiving thresholds. Its Friday morning board listed Lamb at 81.5 receiving yards, Pickens at 71.5, Prescott at 276.5 passing yards, Williams at 70.5 rushing yards, Love at 272.5 passing yards and Watson at 73.5 receiving yards.
At those numbers, the disciplined response is selective. The Lamb over becomes more attractive at 80.5 or lower at standard juice. Pickens needs 68.5 or lower. Prescott needs 264.5 or lower. A Williams under becomes more interesting at 74.5 or higher. Love needs 269.5 or lower, and Watson needs 64.5 or lower. The current snapshot therefore produces passes on all six rather than forced action.

Prediction
Football Nation prediction: Packers 28, Cowboys 27.
Green Bay earns the narrow edge because its pressure package can create one possession changing mistake and Love enters with the hotter recent passing performance. The strongest counterargument is Dallas’ receiver depth. If Prescott consistently identifies pressure and Lamb forces Green Bay out of its preferred calls, the Cowboys can control the game through quick completions and Williams’ red zone role.
The forecast is intentionally close because neither defense has earned total trust. Dallas can win if it protects Prescott and avoids explosive coverage failures. Green Bay can win if it makes Dallas play behind the chains and turns its replacement backfield into functional support rather than a liability.
Game day checkpoints
Check the official inactive lists about 90 minutes before kickoff. Confirm the status of Green Bay’s questionable offensive linemen and Dallas’ questionable defenders. Recheck the wind and precipitation at Lambeau. Refresh the spread, total and prop prices, and compare them with the thresholds above instead of treating Friday numbers as fixed.
