Davante Adams Hamstring Injury: Rams Expect 6-10 Week Absence

The Los Angeles Rams now expect to be without Davante Adams for most or all of the next two months. Head coach Sean McVay said Monday that Adams is expected to miss six to 10 weeks after suffering a hamstring injury in Sunday’s 18-16 loss to Arizona. That is a projected recovery range from the head coach, not a confirmed injured-reserve transaction or a guaranteed return date.

The practical answer is immediate: Los Angeles must build its Week 7 offense without treating Adams as part of the active plan. The exact roster mechanism and weekly game designation still require official confirmation, but a six-week minimum would carry the absence deep into the schedule. A 10-week recovery would threaten most of the remaining regular season.

What the Rams confirmed

NFL.com reported McVay's six to 10 week expectation Monday, October 19. Adams injured his hamstring during the Rams' Week 6 loss to the Cardinals. NFL Network Insider Ian Rapoport reported that Adams is expected to undergo a procedure on his hamstring tendon to clean it out. That is an attributed expected procedure, not a Rams announcement that it has been completed, not a confirmed injury grade and not a guaranteed return date.

Adams had 30 receptions for 480 yards and four touchdowns through six games, according to the NFL’s Monday report. His 16.0 yards per reception showed that the 33-year-old was still providing more than short-area possession work. He was creating explosive gains and maintaining an important scoring role before the injury.

The Rams are 2-4, so the timing magnifies the football consequence. Losing a starting receiver for at least six weeks changes more than raw target totals. It changes how defenses can bracket routes, how Matthew Stafford identifies favorable matchups before the snap and how Los Angeles designs third-down and red-zone sequences.

Puka Nacua becomes the clear receiving centerpiece

Puka Nacua should become the offense’s clearest weekly volume bet while Adams is unavailable. That does not mean every Adams target simply transfers to Nacua. Opponents can devote more coverage attention to him, and the Rams may respond with formation changes, motion and heavier use of backs and tight ends.

For fantasy football, Nacua’s target ceiling rises, but so does the risk of concentrated defensive attention. He remains the strongest Rams receiver to start. The more difficult decisions involve the secondary route tree, where Tutu Atwell, Jordan Whittington and other active receivers can earn larger shares without any one player being guaranteed Adams’ complete workload.

What changes for Matthew Stafford and the supporting receivers

Stafford loses a veteran separator and proven touchdown finisher. That lowers the margin for error, especially near the goal line and on downs when Adams could win quickly against leverage. Stafford can remain usable in favorable matchups, but projections should be reduced until the Rams demonstrate how they will replace Adams’ routes and scoring opportunities.

Atwell offers speed and spacing, while Whittington can compete for additional snaps and underneath work. The Rams’ official roster also lists other wide receivers who may be elevated or activated as needed. Fantasy managers should follow route participation and first-read targets rather than assuming that the next player on a depth chart automatically becomes a dependable starter.

Tight ends and running backs can also absorb designed touches. That redistribution could keep the offense functional, but it may reduce explosive passing efficiency if defenses no longer have to account for Adams on every high-leverage snap.

The six-to-10-week window

The lower end of McVay’s estimate points to a possible return late in the regular season. The upper end would leave very little regular-season runway. Hamstring recovery can change with setbacks, response to rehabilitation and the player’s ability to accelerate and decelerate at game speed, so the midpoint should not be presented as a target date.

Fantasy managers with an injured-reserve slot should hold Adams where roster construction permits. Managers without an IR slot must weigh bench depth, league size and playoff position. Cutting a player of Adams’ scoring caliber immediately is not automatic, but a six-to-10-week absence creates a real opportunity cost in shallow formats.

Next checkpoints

The next authoritative checkpoints are confirmation that the reported procedure occurred, any Rams roster transaction, the first Week 7 injury report, clarification from McVay and a future designation to return to practice. A practice window opening would begin another evaluation period; it would not itself guarantee game activation.

Football Nation will also track the first game without Adams: route participation, red-zone targets, third-down personnel and whether Los Angeles adds another receiver. Those details will matter more for fantasy lineups than speculation about a perfect one-for-one replacement.

Football Nation conclusion

Treat Adams as unavailable for an extended stretch and build Rams and fantasy projections around Nacua as the receiving centerpiece. Do not assign Adams’ full target or touchdown share to one replacement. The Rams must prove the new hierarchy on the field, and Adams’ return should be tied to official roster and practice evidence rather than the calendar alone.
