Tua Gets a Brief Tune-Up

In his only action of the preseason, Tua Tagovailoa led the Miami Dolphins on three series, finishing 4-of-8 passing for 49 yards and a touchdown. The score came on a 25-yard strike to Malik Washington, who shook free after the catch to finish in the end zone.
Tagovailoa was also sacked twice, but he welcomed the live reps: “It felt good to get hit again,” Tua said, emphasizing the transition into regular-season rhythm. He exited after the touchdown, and Miami converted a 2-point pass to Pharaoh Brown to lead 8-0 early.
Quarterback Rotation
Zach Wilson relieved Tagovailoa, directing a touchdown drive capped by Mike Boone’s 7-yard run midway through the third quarter.
Rookie Quinn Ewers closed the game, completing 7-of-8 passes for 66 yards in efficient fashion.
For Jacksonville, rookie Seth Henigan and veteran John Wolford struggled to generate momentum against Miami’s defense, combining for just 102 yards. Henigan’s fourth-quarter interception, returned 52 yards by John Saunders Jr., sealed the outcome.
Standout Performers
Malik Washington (WR, Dolphins): 3 catches, 41 yards, 1 TD. Continues to shine while Tyreek Hill (injury) and Jaylen Waddle (limited work) sit out.
Mike Boone (RB, Dolphins): 7-yard touchdown run to secure Miami’s second score.
Cam Little (K, Jaguars): The rookie kicker drilled field goals from 59 and 43 yards — the Jags’ only points.
Dolphins Defense: Allowed only 190 total yards, with Chop Robinson and Bradley Chubb each notching sacks.
Coaching Notes
Dolphins coach Mike McDaniel was pleased with the starters finding rhythm: “The main thing is you want to see guys finish a drive in the end zone.”
Jaguars coach Liam Coen praised his backups’ fight, particularly the defense logging six sacks, but admitted the offense failed to execute consistently.
Injuries
Miami: LB Eugene Asante left in the fourth quarter with a lower-body injury.
Jacksonville: No new major reported injuries.
What’s Next
Dolphins open the season at Indianapolis on Sept. 7.
Jaguars host the Carolina Panthers the same day.
