Dont’e Thornton Jr. Ruled Out Despite Full Practices: Raiders Week 7 Impact

3 min read

Dont’e Thornton Jr. practiced fully throughout the week, but the Las Vegas Raiders still ruled him out for Sunday’s Week 7 game against the Los Angeles Rams. The apparent contradiction is a roster-status issue, not a late practice setback.

Thornton remains in the return-to-practice process after beginning the season on injured reserve with a hamstring injury. Las Vegas opened his 21-day practice window on October 7, but a player in that window cannot play until the team formally activates him to the 53-man roster. Friday’s official injury report marks Thornton as an IR returnee and lists him out despite full participation Wednesday, Thursday and Friday.

Why three full practices did not clear Thornton

Practice participation and game eligibility answer different questions. Three full sessions suggest Thornton can handle football work, but they do not complete the transaction required to leave injured reserve. The Raiders can continue evaluating him during the remainder of the 21-day window before choosing whether to activate him or keep him on injured reserve.

The practical answer for fantasy managers is simple: Thornton will not play against the Rams. There is no reason to wait for Sunday’s inactive list or treat him as a game-time decision.

What Thornton would add when activated

Thornton is a 6-foot-4 vertical receiver whom Las Vegas selected in the fourth round of the 2025 NFL Draft. As a rookie, he appeared in 15 games with eight starts and caught 10 passes for 135 yards, averaging 13.5 yards per reception.

That production does not establish a high-volume fantasy role, but his size and field-stretching profile give the Raiders a different perimeter option. His eventual return could create more spacing for Brock Bowers and Michael Mayer inside while forcing safeties to respect deeper routes.

Raiders receiver depth chart without Thornton

The Raiders’ Week 7 depth chart lists Jalen Nailor and Tre Tucker as the starting receivers. Malik Benson backs up Nailor, while Dareke Young and Cody White are listed behind Tucker. Thornton does not appear on the active depth chart while he remains in the injured-reserve return process.

White has been the most efficient surprise in the group, recording seven catches for 108 yards and three touchdowns through six games. His touchdown rate is unlikely to remain that extreme, but Thornton’s continued absence keeps White involved in the active rotation.

  • Tre Tucker remains the most defensible Raiders wide receiver for fantasy lineups, though his weekly floor is volatile in an offense that funnels work through the tight ends.

  • Jalen Nailor stays in the starting formation but is better treated as a deep-league or DFS option than a standard-league start.

  • Cody White retains touchdown-dependent value in deeper formats. Seven catches are not enough to create a stable weekly floor, even with three scores.

  • Brock Bowers and Michael Mayer remain central to the passing plan. Thornton’s absence does not reduce their target appeal.

  • Thornton is a dynasty and deep-bench stash only. Managers should not add him solely because he practiced fully.

Week 7 matchup impact against the Rams

Los Angeles enters the game with cornerback Trent McDuffie questionable after missing all three practices with a groin injury. Linebacker Nate Landman is out with a concussion. Those absences could improve portions of the Raiders’ passing matchup, but Thornton cannot benefit this week because his out designation is final.

Las Vegas should continue leaning on Tucker’s speed, the Bowers-Mayer combination and Ashton Jeanty as a receiving outlet. Thornton’s eventual activation would broaden that structure, but projecting immediate starter volume before he is on the active roster would be premature.

Fantasy football verdict

Thornton should remain on waivers in standard redraft leagues. His full practices are encouraging for a possible return after Week 7, but the Raiders have not established a 2026 role for him, and the current depth chart already has multiple receivers competing behind Tucker and Nailor.

In dynasty formats, Thornton remains a reasonable speculative hold because of his age, size and vertical profile. The next actionable checkpoint is an official Raiders activation, followed by his first active-game snap share and route participation. Until those arrive, he is a developmental stash rather than a lineup option.

Bottom line

Thornton’s three full practices are a positive health signal, not permission to play. Las Vegas ruled him out because he remains in the injured-reserve return process. Tucker, Nailor and White keep their current roles against the Rams, while Thornton’s real fantasy evaluation moves to the next activation decision.

This report is current through Friday evening, October 23, 2026.
