Jihaad Campbell Ruled Out vs. Commanders: Eagles LB and Fantasy Impact

PHILADELPHIA — Eagles starting linebacker Jihaad Campbell has been ruled out of Sunday night’s Week 8 game against the Washington Commanders with hamstring and quadriceps injuries. Campbell did not participate in practice all week, leaving Philadelphia to replace a seven-game starter in the middle of a defense already trying to reverse a difficult statistical start.
Fantasy verdict: Campbell is unavailable in IDP leagues. Jeremiah Trotter Jr. is the first replacement to monitor, but managers should treat him as a tackle-dependent LB3 or deep-league flex until Philadelphia confirms his snap share.
What the final Eagles injury report says
Philadelphia listed Campbell as a nonparticipant Wednesday, Thursday and Friday with hamstring and quad injuries before ruling him out. Cornerback Jonathan Jones, wide receivers DeVonta Smith and Dontayvion Wicks, and return specialist Britain Covey were also ruled out; the Eagles listed no players as questionable.
Campbell’s absence is especially important because this is not a rotational player leaving a small package. He has started all seven games in 2026 and produced 49 combined tackles, 28 solo tackles, one sack and one forced fumble. He also recorded nine tackles and a sack of Jayden Daniels in Philadelphia’s Week 1 win over Washington.
Who replaces Jihaad Campbell?
The Eagles’ current depth chart lists Jeremiah Trotter Jr. directly behind Campbell. That makes Trotter the most logical candidate for the largest increase in base-defense work, with Zack Baun remaining the other starting linebacker. Smael Mondon Jr. is listed behind Baun and gives Philadelphia another option if the coaching staff prefers a rotation.
A true one-for-one workload is not guaranteed. Philadelphia can use nickel personnel, move Cooper DeJean closer to the box, or divide early-down and passing-down responsibilities. That uncertainty matters in IDP leagues: Trotter’s opportunity is real, but his fantasy floor depends on whether he inherits Campbell’s full-time role or only a subset of the snaps.
Why Washington’s offense gets a matchup boost
The Commanders’ official Week 8 preview identified Philadelphia as a bottom-five defense in yards allowed per game entering the matchup. The Eagles were allowing 131 rushing yards per game and 4.2 yards per carry while producing only eight sacks.
Campbell’s absence removes an active run defender and a mobile quarterback matchup piece. That is a modest positive for Daniels and Washington’s backfield committee of Rachaad White, Jeremy McNichols and Austin Ekeler. It does not create a must-start running back by itself—the Commanders still prefer a committee—but it improves the path to usable rushing volume and short-area receptions.
Week 8 fantasy and betting impact
Jihaad Campbell: Remove him from IDP lineups. There is no game-time decision to wait on.
Jeremiah Trotter Jr.: Priority watch-list or deep-league waiver option. Start only if your format rewards tackles heavily and alternatives are thin.
Zack Baun: Remains the safest Eagles linebacker. Campbell’s absence could funnel a few additional tackle opportunities his way.
Jayden Daniels: The matchup improves slightly because Philadelphia loses a linebacker who sacked him in Week 1 and can match quarterback mobility.
Washington running backs: White, McNichols and Ekeler receive a small matchup upgrade, but the committee structure still limits individual ceilings.
Eagles D/ST: A less appealing fantasy start because of the linebacker loss, broader secondary injuries and Philadelphia’s low sack total entering Week 8.
The strongest counterargument
One linebacker absence does not automatically make Washington efficient. The Commanders entered the week last in third-down conversion rate, and Philadelphia still has high-level front-line talent including Jalen Carter, Jordan Davis, Zack Baun and its edge rotation. A healthier group of Eagles edge rushers could also offset some of Campbell’s lost pressure value.
What to watch Sunday night
The first two defensive series should answer the biggest fantasy question: whether Trotter is playing every down or rotating. IDP managers should track his snap rate, alignment on passing downs and use as a quarterback spy. For Washington, watch whether Daniels attacks the short middle and whether Ekeler’s receiving role grows against the adjusted linebacker group.
Bottom line
Campbell’s seven starts and 49 tackles make this a meaningful loss, not a depth-chart footnote. Trotter is the immediate replacement to monitor, Baun remains the safest Eagles IDP, and Washington’s quarterback and running-back committee receive a modest matchup upgrade. The change is most actionable in tackle-heavy IDP leagues and as a reason to lower Philadelphia D/ST expectations.
