Malik Nabers Still Is Not Guaranteed for Week 1 After ACL Surgery

Updated September 2, 2026. Projections are Football Nation editorial projections. Fantasy totals use half PPR scoring unless otherwise stated.

The Giants star has cleared another major hurdle

Malik Nabers is attempting to return from the ACL and meniscus injury that ended his 2025 season after only four games. His offseason included a second procedure to remove scar tissue, which made every training camp milestone important. Nabers has now removed the red noncontact jersey and participated in team periods, an encouraging sign that Week 1 remains possible.

The Giants still have not offered an unconditional promise that he will play. Nabers has described his recovery as a daily process, and New York managed him carefully throughout the preseason. That is appropriate after a major knee injury. It also means fantasy managers should separate two questions: can he play Week 1, and can he immediately handle the role he owned before the injury?

What Nabers did in 2025

Nabers caught 18 passes for 271 yards and two touchdowns in four games. That line produced 48.1 half PPR points, or 12 points per game. Before the injury, his target share and first read usage still looked like elite WR1 traits.

His rookie season provides the fuller picture. Nabers caught 109 passes for 1,204 yards and seven touchdowns in 15 games during 2024. The Giants built their passing game around him because he wins at every level and creates offense after the catch.

Football Nation 2026 projection

Our projection assumes 14 games and a cautious opening month: 88 receptions, 1,090 yards and seven touchdowns. That equals 195 half PPR points. If Nabers plays 16 or 17 games and quickly regains his normal snap share, 1,300 yards remains reachable.

Jaxson Dart does not need to force the ball to Nabers 12 times in the opener for this return to be successful. New York may use shorter routes, reduce his total snaps and avoid unnecessary exposure late in the game. Odell Beckham Jr., Darnell Mooney and Wan’Dale Robinson give the Giants enough receiving depth to be patient.

Fantasy managers should start Nabers as a WR2 if he avoids the final injury report. If he is listed as questionable, confirm that he is expected to play before locking him in. A reported snap count would lower the floor, but his talent still creates enough upside to use him over ordinary flex options.

Why the first month matters more than Week 1

The larger risk is not one inactive Sunday. It is an uneven September in which Nabers plays, rests and receives a changing snap count while his knee adapts to contact. Fantasy managers should judge the comeback over several weeks rather than one box score. A quiet opener with healthy movement would be more encouraging than a touchdown on limited routes. The target ceiling will still be there once the Giants trust him with a complete workload.

Bottom line: Nabers is trending toward the opener, but the first month may be a ramp rather than an instant return to 2024 volume.
