Raiders at Jets Week 8 Guide: Matchup, Fantasy, Odds and Prediction

Updated: 4 days ago

Football Nation call: New York has the cleaner defensive matchup and the home field, but this is closer to a one possession coin flip than a comfortable favorite. The Jets can pressure Kirk Cousins without selling out, and Las Vegas has allowed 5.9 yards per play while giving up touchdowns on 78.6 percent of opponent red zone trips. The counterweight is a Raiders passing game that ranks sixth in scoring and fourth in passing yards per game. Klint Kubiak has confirmed Cousins will start in Week 8 and Fernando Mendoza will not play. Our early lean remains Jets 24, Raiders 21, with the call most vulnerable to Breece Hall's availability and the Raiders' ability to protect Cousins.

The practical fantasy answer is to start Tre Tucker and Garrett Wilson, treat Geno Smith as a viable streamer, and keep Braelon Allen in lineups if Hall remains limited or unavailable. Ashton Jeanty is a volume based flex with receiving upside, but the Las Vegas run game has produced only 74.7 yards per game and 3.0 yards per rush. Cousins is the confirmed Raiders starter, so Mendoza carries no Week 8 fantasy or prop projection. Official practice reports, final designations and executable player prop boards are still pending.

Game essentials

  • Matchup: Las Vegas Raiders at New York Jets, NFL Week 8.

  • Date and kickoff: Sunday, November 1, 2026, at 1:00 p.m. Eastern, noon Central.

  • Venue: MetLife Stadium in East Rutherford, New Jersey. The stadium is outdoors on FieldTurf.

  • Television: FOX, according to the official Raiders schedule and NFL game center.

  • Streaming: the official team streaming guide for this matchup had not been posted as of 4:52 p.m. Central on October 26. Viewers should confirm their local FOX carriage and the team's game week instructions before kickoff.

Records, stakes and recent form

Las Vegas is 3–4 and third in the AFC West after opening 3–0 and losing four straight. New York is 2–5 and has lost five of its last six. Both teams are outside the current AFC playoff field, so the game is less about protecting position than preserving a credible route back into the race.

The Raiders lost 35–21 to the Rams in Week 7 after falling behind 28–3. Kirk Cousins finished with 295 passing yards and two touchdowns, but Las Vegas managed only 49 rushing yards. The Raiders went 1 for 5 in the red zone while the Rams went 5 for 5. Tre Tucker supplied the explosive counterpunch with 78 yards on two catches during one second half drive and finished the day with a 37 yard touchdown. Ashton Jeanty caught eight passes for 61 yards and a score.

The Jets lost 28–25 to Miami. Geno Smith completed 23 of 30 passes for 287 yards, three touchdowns and one interception. Braelon Allen rushed 17 times for 104 yards and added six receptions for 30 yards while Breece Hall was inactive. Rookie Omar Cooper Jr. posted 115 yards and a touchdown, and Mason Taylor caught two scores. The encouraging production came with a warning: New York failed to turn a first and goal at the 1 into a touchdown and still ranks near the bottom of the league in red zone conversion.

Travel, rest and series context

Both clubs have seven days of rest. Las Vegas must travel roughly 2,228 miles and cross three time zones for an early body clock kickoff. New York stays home for a second consecutive game. That does not decide the matchup, but it raises the importance of the Raiders avoiding another slow start.

The Raiders lead the all time series 27–20–2. The last meeting was in 2023, a 16–12 Las Vegas win. That history is secondary to the present roster, but it fits the shape of a matchup currently priced near a field goal or less.

2026 statistical matchup

The official NFL game center lists Las Vegas at 26.1 points and 343.7 yards per game, compared with 19.6 points and 303.0 yards for New York. The Raiders have 16 defensive sacks and five interceptions; the Jets have 19 sacks but only one interception. Season leaders through Week 7 are Cousins with 1,877 passing yards and a 16 to 5 touchdown to interception ratio, Geno Smith with 1,623 yards and a 10 to 2 ratio, Jeanty with 328 rushing yards, Allen with 418, Tucker with 474 receiving yards and Garrett Wilson with 444.

TeamRankings, checked at 4:52 p.m. Central on October 26, sharpens the contrast. Las Vegas averages 5.3 yards per play, converts 39.1 percent on third down and scores touchdowns on 46.4 percent of red zone trips. New York averages 5.2 yards per play, converts 37.8 percent on third down and scores touchdowns on 45.0 percent of red zone trips.

On defense, the Jets allow 4.9 yards per play, 38.2 percent on third down and 56.0 percent touchdowns in the red zone. The Raiders allow 5.9 yards per play, 42.4 percent on third down and 78.6 percent touchdowns in the red zone. New York's defense is the best unit in this matchup. Las Vegas' largest offensive advantage is through the air: 269.0 passing yards per game against a Jets defense allowing only 187.7. Something has to give.

The run splits point strongly toward New York. The Jets average 3.8 yards per rush, modest by itself, but Las Vegas allows 5.0. The Raiders average only 3.0 yards per carry, and the Jets allow 4.1. New York's path is to keep the down and distance favorable with Allen and Hall, if available. Las Vegas' path is to use short throws as an extension of its run game.

Injuries and personnel uncertainty

Confirmed current information is limited because neither team had posted an official Week 8 injury report by the source cutoff. New York's Week 7 inactive list included Breece Hall, Dylan Parham, Max Mitchell, Joseph Ossai, Kene Nwangwu, Jarvis Brownlee Jr. and Jack Heflin. Those are not Week 8 designations. Hall's quad and Parham's knee are the biggest offensive checkpoints because they affect both backfield distribution and interior protection.

Las Vegas designated wide receiver Jack Bech to return from injured reserve on Monday after a broken forearm. That opens a 21 day practice window; it does not mean he has been activated. Kubiak also confirmed Cousins will start against the Jets and Mendoza will not play, removing the quarterback switch from the Week 8 uncertainty list.

Expected replacements are straightforward if absences continue. Allen remains the lead Jets runner if Hall is out, with Isaiah Davis supporting passing downs. If Parham cannot play, New York must adjust its interior line grouping against Maxx Crosby and the Raiders front. Las Vegas can continue leaning on Tucker, Brock Bowers and Jeanty as Cousins' primary answers against pressure.

When the Raiders have the ball

Las Vegas should not spend early downs proving it can run into a Jets front that has been more efficient than the Raiders offensive line. The better plan is spread personnel, quick game and motion that creates free access for Tucker or Bowers. Cousins has been protected well by rate, with TeamRankings listing a 3.6 percent sack rate allowed, but New York ranks fourth in defensive sack rate at 8.2 percent.

Tucker is the field stretcher and the most likely player to change the geometry. Bowers can force linebackers and safeties to declare leverage. Jeanty's receiving role matters more than his rushing efficiency: screens, angle routes and wheel concepts can punish aggressive edges while giving Cousins defined answers.

The Jets' counter is to force Las Vegas into long drives. New York allows only 4.9 yards per play and has surrendered relatively few passing yards, but it has not generated interceptions. If the Jets tackle underneath and win in the red zone, they can make the Raiders settle for field goals. If Tucker hits two explosives, the defensive advantage shrinks quickly.

When the Jets have the ball

New York's clearest path is the run game. The Raiders have allowed 143.6 rushing yards per game and 5.0 per carry. Allen has 357 rushing yards since becoming the starter in Week 4 and has recorded at least 100 scrimmage yards in three of his last four starts. If Hall returns, the Jets can use a two back rotation without abandoning Allen's earned role.

Geno Smith's efficiency is the second pillar. He has completed 70.1 percent of his passes with only two interceptions this season. Las Vegas has allowed 7.7 yards per pass attempt, so Garrett Wilson, Cooper and Taylor all have space to attack. Cooper's 218 receiving yards over the past two games create a real coverage dilemma: tilting help toward Wilson no longer ends the drive.

The Raiders must create negative plays before the red zone. Their defense has produced 16 sacks and a plus four turnover differential, but those splash plays have not compensated for poor run defense and red zone execution. Crosby against New York's tackles is the matchup that can flip the game, especially if the Jets are forced behind schedule.

Market snapshot and price sensitivity

FanDuel's published opening snapshot, reported October 26, made New York a 1.5 point favorite with a 44.5 total and moneylines of Jets minus 118 and Raiders plus 100. TeamRankings showed Jets minus 1 with a 44.5 total at the 4:52 p.m. Central check. That is a half point move toward Las Vegas, not a major market statement.

At Jets minus 1 and 44.5, the implied score is approximately New York 22.75, Las Vegas 21.75. Football Nation's 24–21 projection is close to the market. The side analysis changes if New York reaches minus 2.5, because the home edge would be fully priced in. Raiders support becomes more interesting only at plus 3. The total is not attractive at 44.5; an over case needs 42.5 or lower, while an under case needs 45.5 or higher. These are analytical thresholds, not staking instructions.

Player workload and prop watchlist: markets pending

No reliable, executable Week 8 player prop board was publicly available at the cutoff. The following are workload based evaluation points, not quoted bets. Each must be checked against an actual sportsbook line and price before game day.

  • Kirk Cousins passing attempts: the Raiders average 38.0 attempts per game and may again use the pass as their run substitute. Over interest begins at 33.5 or lower. The case against is New York controlling pace and limiting possessions. At 36.5 or higher, the volume edge is gone.

  • Kirk Cousins passing yards: Las Vegas averages 269 passing yards, but New York allows only 187.7. The over case needs 239.5 or lower. The strongest counter is the Jets' pressure and tackling. At 255.5 or higher, the matchup discount is too small.

  • Tre Tucker receiving yards: Tucker has 200 yards and three touchdowns over the past two games and owns the vertical role. Over interest begins at 54.5 or lower. The case against is concentrated safety help. At 68.5 or higher, the price would lean too heavily on recent explosions.

  • Ashton Jeanty receptions: he caught eight passes against the Rams while the run game stalled. Over interest begins at 3.5. The counter is a more competitive score that restores carries. At 4.5, the role is adequately priced.

  • Geno Smith completions: Smith is completing 70.1 percent and just went 23 of 30. Over interest begins at 20.5 or lower. The counter is a run heavy plan against Las Vegas' weak front. At 22.5 or higher, pass volume becomes the concern.

  • Braelon Allen rushing yards: if Hall is inactive, Allen becomes an over candidate at 65.5 or lower against a defense allowing 5.0 yards per rush. Hall's return is the strongest case against. With Hall active, or at 78.5 and above, the edge disappears.

  • Omar Cooper Jr. receiving yards: Cooper has consecutive 100 yard games and 218 yards over the last two weeks. Over interest begins at 49.5 or lower. The case against is target competition from Wilson and Taylor. At 62.5 or higher, the breakout is fully reflected.

Fantasy football guidance

Scoring format: half PPR, four points per passing touchdown.

  • Start: Tre Tucker as a WR2 or strong WR3. His recent production and route stretching role give him the best Las Vegas ceiling.

  • Start: Garrett Wilson as a WR2. His target role remains stable even as Cooper and Taylor emerge.

  • Streamer: Geno Smith in one quarterback leagues. The Raiders' pass defense and red zone problems support a top 12 path, though a run heavy win would cap volume.

  • Flex: Ashton Jeanty. His rushing efficiency is poor, but receiving usage protects the floor.

  • Conditional start: Braelon Allen as an RB2 if Hall is inactive. If Hall returns without restriction, Allen becomes a flex and Hall a volatile RB2.

  • Flex: Omar Cooper Jr. in deeper leagues. Two straight 100 yard games earn lineup consideration, but target consolidation is not guaranteed.

  • Streamer: Mason Taylor at tight end. His two touchdown Week 7 does not create a new floor, but his red zone role is real.

  • Sit: secondary Raiders receivers outside deep formats until Jack Bech's activation status and route distribution are known.

  • Defense: the Jets are the preferable fantasy defense because of their sack rate and Las Vegas' cross country travel. The Raiders defense is a turnover dependent streamer only.

Football Nation prediction

Prediction: Jets 24, Raiders 21.

Why: New York has the stronger defense, the better run matchup and the home rest advantage. The Jets can win without asking Smith to carry 40 attempts. The Raiders are dangerous enough through the air to keep it inside one score, but their run defense and red zone defense create too many efficient paths for New York.

Strongest counterargument: Las Vegas has the better scoring offense, Cousins has 16 touchdown passes against five interceptions, and the Jets have only one defensive interception. If Tucker or Bowers turns two intermediate completions into explosives, the Raiders can force New York out of its preferred run first script.

Upset path: Las Vegas starts faster, Crosby creates one short field, Cousins avoids sacks and the Raiders win the red zone by at least one touchdown. The confirmed quarterback plan removes one major uncertainty. The facts most likely to change the call now are a full Hall return combined with a healthy Parham, or a Raiders protection issue that materially lowers Cousins' passing outlook.

Game day checklist

  • Read both official Wednesday, Thursday and Friday injury reports, with special attention to Hall, Parham, Mitchell, Ossai, Bech and the Raiders quarterback room.

  • Confirm the 90 minute inactive lists and the Jets backfield rotation.

  • Refresh the MetLife Stadium forecast. An early model snapshot showed mild conditions and modest wind, but it is too early to treat that as game day evidence.

  • Recheck the spread, total and moneyline with exact prices and time. Note any move through Jets minus 2.5 or Raiders plus 3.

  • Check executable player and touchdown markets only after roles and availability are confirmed.

  • Confirm FOX carriage and the official team streaming instructions.

Confirmed Raiders quarterback plan

Kubiak confirmed that Cousins will start Week 8 against the Jets and that Mendoza will not play. That keeps Tucker, Brock Bowers and Jeanty attached to Cousins' established passing volume. The Cousins passing attempt and yardage thresholds remain watchlist levels, not quoted bets, and must still be checked against a named executable market.

The strongest counterargument is that one confirmed start does not guarantee long term job security if Las Vegas again falls behind early or fails in the red zone. For this game, however, any Mendoza projection is unsupported. The next checkpoint is the Raiders' practice participation and final inactive list, not a speculative quarterback change.
