Stefon Diggs Active vs. 49ers: Week 6 Fantasy Start-Sit Impact

Stefon Diggs is active for Washington's Week 6 game against the San Francisco 49ers, giving quarterback Jayden Daniels back one of his most dependable red-zone and chain-moving targets for Monday night.
The Commanders' official inactive list does not include Diggs, who had been questionable with a hamstring injury after missing last week's 27-27 tie against the New York Giants. The news keeps Diggs in fantasy lineups, but his recent injury and unknown route share make him a calculated WR3 or flex rather than a full-confidence ceiling play.
What the active decision confirms
Washington listed Diggs as a non-participant Thursday and limited Friday and Saturday before he traveled to California. The team had indicated that his game status would be settled with the inactive list, and Monday's list confirmed he will dress. Washington declared six players inactive, including backup quarterback Marcus Mariota, cornerbacks Fabian Moreau and Isaac Yiadom, defensive end Charles Omenihu, guard Tanoa Togiai and practice-squad elevation T.J. Maguranyanga.
Being active does not guarantee a normal workload. Washington has not announced a snap limit, target expectation or route-participation plan for Diggs. Hamstring injuries can affect acceleration and sudden changes of direction, so fantasy managers should separate “available” from “fully unrestricted” until the opening series shows otherwise.
Diggs' 2026 production before the injury
Diggs enters Monday with 18 receptions for 170 yards and three touchdowns in four games. He has averaged 9.4 yards per catch, with a long reception of 20 yards. His production has been more valuable near the goal line and on money downs than the raw yardage total suggests.
Two of his three touchdowns came in Week 2 against Dallas, when Diggs caught five passes for 47 yards. The Commanders also noted that Diggs and Terry McLaurin each have 11 receptions for first downs. That reliability is important for Daniels, especially when Washington needs to sustain drives against an unbeaten 49ers team.
The matchup could also produce the first extended stretch in roughly a month with Daniels, McLaurin, Diggs and tight end Chig Okonkwo all available together. Washington's own preview emphasized that the offense has seen flashes from those players individually without consistently having the entire group on the field.
Fantasy football start-sit recommendation
If Diggs was held in a fantasy lineup for Monday night, he should generally be started over fringe receivers and low-volume tight ends. His touchdown role and first-down usage provide a realistic path to a useful score even if Washington manages his total routes.
The correct expectation is WR3 or flex value. Diggs has not topped 55 receiving yards in a game this season, and a limited route share would make his floor dependent on efficiency or another touchdown. Managers should not project a vintage high-volume Diggs performance simply because he is active.
In half-PPR formats, the combination of short-area receptions and touchdown equity makes him usable. In full PPR, his target floor gives him a little more insulation. In non-PPR leagues, the modest yardage profile increases the importance of scoring and makes him more volatile.
For anyone choosing between Diggs and another Monday-night option, prioritize the player with the clearer every-down role when projections are close. Diggs is most attractive when the alternative is a rotational receiver, touchdown-dependent tight end or low-touch backup running back.
Impact on Jayden Daniels and Washington's other receivers
Diggs' return is a meaningful positive for Daniels. The veteran gives him another receiver who can separate quickly, settle in zone windows and finish drives. That should make Washington more flexible on third down and in the red zone, where the offense cannot afford empty possessions against San Francisco.
McLaurin remains the preferred Washington wide receiver for yardage upside and should stay in fantasy lineups. Antonio Williams, Dyami Brown and Treylon Burks lose some target ceiling with Diggs back, especially if Washington keeps its top three pass catchers on the field together. Okonkwo remains a matchup-dependent tight end rather than an automatic start.
Diggs' presence can also help the running backs indirectly. If San Francisco must respect both veteran wideouts, Washington may find cleaner underneath space for Rachaad White, Austin Ekeler and the newly activated Jeremy McNichols. That is a schematic benefit, not a guarantee of more touches.
The risk fantasy managers should not ignore
The largest unknown is Diggs' snap share. A player can be active but rotate more frequently, avoid certain route concepts or receive fewer downfield assignments in his first game back. That is why the active announcement improves his outlook without restoring him to unquestioned every-week starter status.
Fantasy managers should watch Washington's first possession for three clues: whether Diggs starts in two-receiver sets, whether he stays on the field for third down, and whether Daniels looks for him in the red zone. Those observations will be more useful for Week 7 decisions than the active designation alone.
Bottom line
Diggs is playing, and managers who waited for him can use him as a WR3 or flex. His 18 catches, 170 yards and three touchdowns show a valuable scoring role, but the hamstring and uncertain workload lower the floor. McLaurin remains the stronger yardage bet, while Daniels receives a meaningful boost from having his veteran receiver back.
