Titans Elevate Xavier Restrepo: Fantasy Outlook With Carnell Tate Out
The Tennessee Titans elevated wide receiver Xavier Restrepo from the practice squad for Sunday’s Week 8 road game against the Cincinnati Bengals, creating a possible opportunity in an offense missing its leading receiver. Rookie Carnell Tate is out with a shoulder injury, while Calvin Ridley is questionable with a hip issue after finishing the week as a full practice participant.

Factual cutoff: October 31, 2026, at 11:18 p.m. Central. Football Nation checked the NFL transaction roundup, the Titans and Bengals injury reports, official player records and the matchup preview at that time.
Fantasy scoring note: Recommendations assume half PPR scoring for receivers and standard team D/ST scoring. Dynasty advice is labeled separately.
Football Nation opinion: Restrepo is a watch list addition, not a Week 8 start. The strongest counterargument is that his prior chemistry with Cam Ward could create a larger slot role than the depth chart suggests, especially if Calvin Ridley is limited. The next checkpoint is Tennessee’s inactive list about 90 minutes before kickoff, followed by Restrepo’s routes, snaps and slot usage.
Why Tennessee elevated Xavier Restrepo
Tate has led Tennessee with 34 catches for 413 yards and one touchdown through seven games. His absence removes the Titans’ most productive receiver and 51 targets from the Week 8 lineup. Restrepo gives Tennessee a sixth available wideout and a player already familiar with quarterback Cam Ward from their time together at Miami.
The move does not mean Restrepo will directly inherit Tate’s full role. Tennessee’s unofficial depth chart lists Ridley, Wan’Dale Robinson and Tate as the starting three, with Chimere Dike and Elic Ayomanor in reserve roles. The team’s own Week 8 preview specifically identified Ridley, Ayomanor, Dike and Robinson as the players needed to replace Tate’s production. Restrepo joins that group as a situational option rather than walking into a guaranteed starting assignment.
What Restrepo brings to the Titans
Restrepo is a compact 5 foot 10, 202 pound receiver whose best work has traditionally come from the slot and in traffic. He became Miami’s career leader in receptions with 200, receiving yards with 2,844 and touchdown catches with 21. During his final college season in 2024, he caught 69 passes for 1,127 yards and 11 touchdowns while playing with Ward.
His NFL sample remains small but is not empty. Restrepo appeared in two games for Tennessee in 2025 and caught three of seven targets for 41 yards. This preseason he recorded eight catches for 97 yards across three games, including a four catch, 71 yard performance in the finale against Chicago. Those numbers show short area reliability and some yards after catch potential, but they do not guarantee a large Week 8 route share.
Fantasy football impact
Restrepo is a watch list player in standard redraft leagues, not a recommended Week 8 starter. The elevation gives him game day eligibility, but fantasy managers still need evidence that he will run enough routes to earn consistent targets. Deep dynasty managers can stash him where roster space allows because his connection with Ward and Tennessee’s unsettled receiver room create longer term opportunity.
Wan’Dale Robinson is the safest candidate for steady short area volume because he is already an established starter. Ayomanor and Dike are more likely than Restrepo to handle the bulk of Tate’s outside work. Ridley’s status remains the largest swing factor. The Titans say he will be available after missing last week, but his official designation is questionable; he has only five catches for 81 yards in six games this season, so his name recognition should not be confused with a secure fantasy floor.
For Cam Ward, Restrepo adds a familiar underneath option but does not erase the loss of Tate. Ward enters Week 8 with 1,179 passing yards, four touchdowns and five interceptions, and Tennessee ranks near the bottom of the league in scoring and total offense. Ward remains a superflex or two quarterback league option rather than a preferred one quarterback streamer.
Bengals D/ST outlook
Cincinnati’s fantasy defense remains the more attractive side of this matchup. The Bengals have 21 sacks through six games, tied for the league lead entering Week 8, while Tennessee has scored 15.4 points per game and averages 248.6 total yards. Restrepo’s elevation provides needed depth, but it is not enough by itself to move the Bengals D/ST out of the streaming tier.
Tennessee has protected Ward better recently, allowing only 11 sacks all season and one over the past two games. That gives Restrepo and the other receivers a chance to work into routes rather than simply becoming emergency blockers. Still, Cincinnati’s pass rush, Tennessee’s missing top receiver and the Titans’ low scoring average keep the matchup favorable for the Bengals.
What fantasy managers should watch Sunday
Check Ridley’s final status when inactive lists are released about 90 minutes before the 1 p.m. ET kickoff. If Ridley is active, Restrepo is likely competing for a limited fourth or fifth receiver role. If Ridley unexpectedly sits, Restrepo’s route ceiling rises, but Robinson, Ayomanor and Dike would still project ahead of him for touches.
The most useful Week 8 data will be Restrepo’s snap rate, routes run and slot usage. A handful of designed targets or third down work would make him a viable deep league waiver watch entering Tennessee’s bye. A special teams only role or a few offensive snaps would keep him off the redraft radar.
Bottom line
Xavier Restrepo’s elevation is a sensible response to Carnell Tate’s absence and gives Cam Ward a receiver he knows well. It is meaningful for dynasty watch lists and deeper formats, but it does not create an automatic Week 8 start. Robinson, Ayomanor and Dike remain the clearer immediate beneficiaries, while the Bengals D/ST stays in favorable streaming territory.
