Tyler Warren Ruled Out vs. Vikings: Colts Week 7 Fantasy Impact

Friday update: Warren is ruled out

Indianapolis has ruled Tyler Warren out of Sunday's game against Minnesota because of his groin injury. Two missed practices had made him a major concern; the final designation now makes the lineup decision definitive.

The Colts can replace Warren's receiving and blocking responsibilities with different personnel, which limits the certainty of a one-for-one fantasy beneficiary. Managers should separate extra routes from dependable targets when evaluating the remaining tight ends and slot options.

The next meaningful checkpoint is Warren's participation when Indianapolis begins Week 8 work. Groin injuries can linger, so the current article will not assume a one-week absence.

Indianapolis Colts tight end Tyler Warren did not practice Thursday because of a groin injury, his second consecutive nonparticipation of Week 7. Warren also sat out Wednesday and was inactive against the Tennessee Titans in Week 6, so this is a continuing issue rather than a new midweek rest day.

The Colts have not ruled Warren out for Sunday. Friday's practice participation and final game designation are the next decisive checkpoints before Indianapolis visits Minnesota on October 25 at 1 p.m. ET. Fantasy managers should keep Warren rostered, prepare a replacement now and avoid treating Thursday's DNP as a final verdict.

What changed Thursday

Several Colts returned to practice after sitting out Wednesday, but Warren remained sidelined. That matters because he followed a similar injury path last week: he was limited Friday, carried a questionable tag into the weekend and ultimately appeared on the inactive list against Tennessee.

A Friday upgrade to limited participation would reopen a realistic path to playing. A third straight DNP or an out designation would make the decision simple. A questionable tag after another DNP would create the most difficult fantasy setup because Colts–Vikings is in the early Sunday window, allowing managers to use the official inactive list before locking most lineups.

Why Warren's status matters

Warren has 30 receptions for 213 yards and two receiving touchdowns through five appearances in 2026. He also scored on a one-yard rush against Pittsburgh, giving him three total touchdowns. His best receiving line of the season came in that Week 5 game: seven catches for 83 yards.

Those numbers make Warren more than a touchdown-dependent streamer. His route involvement and short-area volume give him a usable floor at a position where reliable targets are scarce. They also explain why his Week 6 absence cannot be replaced by assuming one backup will inherit the entire role.

Colts depth-chart impact

Indianapolis lists Warren first at tight end, followed by Mo Alie-Cox and Drew Ogletree. Alie-Cox and Ogletree can cover the position structurally, but Warren's receiving profile and designed touches are different. If Warren sits, the most likely football outcome is a committee at tight end with more of the passing-game burden shifting toward established wide receivers and running back Jonathan Taylor.

That makes Alie-Cox and Ogletree speculative options rather than automatic fantasy starts. Alie-Cox carries the clearer touchdown-path appeal, while neither should be projected for Warren's normal target volume without stronger evidence from the final injury report or a team announcement.

Week 7 fantasy football plan

  • If Warren practices Friday and has no game designation: Start him in normal tight-end formats, assuming no late setback.

  • If Warren is limited and questionable: Keep him in the TE1/TE2 range, but check Sunday inactives and retain an early-window pivot.

  • If Warren does not practice Friday and remains questionable: Treat him as high risk. Managers with a comparable healthy option should strongly consider the safer play.

  • If Warren is ruled out: Bench him. Alie-Cox is a touchdown-dependent emergency replacement; Ogletree is a deeper-format option, not a direct one-for-one substitute.

  • For daily fantasy: Avoid early exposure until Friday's report clarifies whether Warren is expected to handle a normal workload.

Matchup and timing

The Colts play the Vikings at U.S. Bank Stadium on Sunday, October 25, with kickoff scheduled for 1 p.m. ET on CBS. The early start is useful for fantasy managers because Warren's active status will be available before the standard 1 p.m. lineup lock.

The practical move is to identify a replacement before waivers and free-agent pools thin out. Do not drop Warren: a Friday return would materially improve his outlook, and his season-long role remains valuable even if Indianapolis holds him out for a second straight game.

Bottom line

Warren's second consecutive DNP raises the risk that he will miss Week 7, but it does not settle his status. Friday's participation level and the Colts' final designation should drive the decision. Keep him rostered, secure a playable alternative and be ready to act when the Sunday inactive list is released.

Sources and factual cutoff

Material claims were checked October 22, 2026, after the Colts' Thursday practice report. Availability can change with Friday's report and Sunday inactives.
