Week 3 Top 10 Fantasy D/ST: Vikings Lead Sunday

5 min read

Minnesota delivered the defining defense-and-special-teams performance of Week 3. The Vikings produced six sacks, two interceptions, a defensive touchdown and an 86-yard punt-return touchdown while allowing 16 points, good for 23 points in the standard Football Nation D/ST model. Jacksonville, the Chargers and Denver followed with pressure-and-turnover profiles that matter beyond one Sunday.

These rankings cover games completed through Sunday. Philadelphia and Chicago play Monday night and are not included. Scoring: 10 points for a shutout; seven for 1–6 points allowed; four for 7–13; one for 14–20; zero for 21–27; minus one for 28–34; minus four for 35-plus; one per sack; two per interception or fumble recovery; and six per defensive or return touchdown. Points allowed use the opponent's final team score so readers can reproduce every total.

1. Minnesota Vikings — 23 points

Minnesota allowed Tampa Bay 16 points, sacked the quarterback six times, recorded 12 quarterback hits and intercepted two passes. The unit also scored once on defense and once on Myles Price's 86-yard punt return. That touchdown mix is not repeatable every week, but the six sacks and 12 hits support the ceiling. Miami visits next, with De'Von Achane's knee status and the Dolphins' protection central to the matchup. Sustainability: strong pressure base, volatile touchdown output. Streaming action: start again.

2. Jacksonville Jaguars — 16 points

Jacksonville held New England to six points, added three sacks and five quarterback hits, intercepted two passes and recovered one fumble. The opponent quality was favorable—the Patriots have struggled to sustain offense—but keeping any NFL team out of the end zone is a meaningful baseline. Cincinnati is next and represents a major difficulty jump. Sustainability: medium; the scoring floor travels less reliably than the takeaway upside. Streaming action: hold, but do not force the start against an improving Bengals offense.

3. Los Angeles Chargers — 14 points

The Chargers allowed 24 points to Buffalo yet finished third because they produced four sacks, seven quarterback hits, two interceptions and three fumble recoveries. Five takeaways against a high-quality Bills offense are the headline and the regression flag: turnover recovery is noisy, while four sacks show a more bankable pass-rush path. Seattle is next. Sustainability: medium-high as a real defense, medium-low for another double-digit fantasy score. Streaming action: start in deeper leagues; cap expectations on the road.

4. Denver Broncos — 14 points

Denver gave up 26 points to the Rams but created four sacks, 14 quarterback hits, two interceptions and a defensive touchdown. The 14 hits are the strongest underlying pressure number in this top ten and explain why the D/ST survived a poor points-allowed bucket. San Francisco is next, a much harder opponent even with receiver injuries. Sustainability: high for pressure, low for another return touchdown. Streaming action: hold on rosters, but consider a safer Week 4 matchup.

5. Houston Texans — 11 points

Houston allowed Indianapolis 19 points with four sacks, seven quarterback hits, one interception and two fumble recoveries. The Colts were not an easy opponent after entering 2–0, so Houston's three takeaways matter more than a similar line against a weak offense. Dallas visits next. Sustainability: medium-high because sacks and hits came with the takeaways. Streaming action: a viable start if Dallas' pass protection and turnover profile remain unstable.

6. Washington Commanders — 11 points

Washington allowed 31 points to Seattle and recorded no sacks, but two interceptions, one fumble recovery and an interception-return touchdown rescued the fantasy result. Six quarterback hits show some disruption without finish, yet the score depended heavily on the touchdown. Indianapolis visits in Week 4. Sustainability: low at double digits unless the sack rate rises. Streaming action: matchup-dependent bench; do not chase the box score.

7. Las Vegas Raiders — 10 points

Las Vegas allowed 27 points in New Orleans, sacked Tyler Shough twice, registered eight quarterback hits, intercepted one pass and recovered three fumbles. The Raiders forced four turnovers in the second half, but recovering three of four Saints fumbles is unlikely to repeat. Kansas City visits with first place in the division at stake. Sustainability: medium for disruption, low for recovery luck. Streaming action: hold in deep formats, avoid as a default Week 4 start.

8. Kansas City Chiefs — 8 points

Kansas City held Miami to 10 points and generated one interception plus one fumble recovery, but no sacks and only one quarterback hit. The points-allowed result carried the fantasy day more than the rush. The Chiefs visit Las Vegas next. Sustainability: medium because coverage and game control can create a floor, but the missing pressure lowers ceiling. Streaming action: usable, not a priority over units with stronger sack profiles.

9. New York Giants — 8 points

The Giants allowed Tennessee seven points, intercepted one pass and recovered one fumble, but registered no sacks and only two quarterback hits. The matchup did most of the work against a Titans offense that scored seven. Arizona visits next and offers more playmakers. Sustainability: low without pressure. Streaming action: short-term streamer only; move on if a stronger sack matchup is available.

10. Detroit Lions — 7 points

Detroit allowed the Jets 24 points, produced five sacks and seven quarterback hits, and recovered one fumble. There was no defensive or special-teams touchdown and no interception, making this the cleanest pressure-driven line near the cutoff. Carolina is next. The Panthers entered Week 3 among the league's more productive offenses, so this is not a free square, but Detroit's five sacks are a usable baseline. Sustainability: medium-high. Streaming action: start if the injury report preserves the pass-rush rotation.

What the top ten actually says

The Vikings won the week in every phase, but Denver's 14 quarterback hits and Detroit's five sacks may be more predictive than any return touchdown. Jacksonville and Kansas City benefited from suppressing weaker offenses; the Chargers and Texans created fantasy value against better opposition. Las Vegas, Washington and New York need either more sacks or another favorable turnover swing before managers treat them as weekly starts.

Football Nation verdict

Start Minnesota and keep faith with pressure-rich Denver and Detroit even when the matchup raises the risk. Jacksonville is a hold rather than a blind Week 4 start, while Washington and the Giants are classic examples of why fantasy managers should look past the final D/ST total. Stream sacks first, opponent weakness second and touchdowns last.
