Week 5 Top 10 Fantasy Defenses: Packers and 49ers Lead the Sunday Edition

4 min read

Green Bay and San Francisco share the Week 5 fantasy defense lead through Sunday with 18 points under the FantasyPros standard D/ST setting. The Packers created five takeaways while allowing seven points. The 49ers overcame 29 points allowed with five sacks, four takeaways and a defensive touchdown. Buffalo and the Los Angeles Rams remain pending on Monday night, so this is the Sunday edition.

The scoring totals below are the published FantasyPros standard D/ST values checked October 12, 2026 at 5:06 AM Central. FantasyPros also supplied sacks, interceptions, fumble recoveries, defensive touchdowns and roster rates. Official NFL results supplied points allowed and the Week 6 schedule. Different league settings can change the order, especially bonuses for yards allowed or return scores. Managers should verify local rules before making a waiver claim.

1. Green Bay Packers

Green Bay scored 18 points with four sacks, three interceptions and two fumble recoveries while allowing Chicago seven points. The unit was rostered in 29.5 percent of FantasyPros leagues at the cutoff. Dallas visits in Week 6. Action: add and start. The strongest counterargument is that five takeaways are not a repeatable weekly baseline. The performance remains useful because four sacks add a more stable pressure component.

2. San Francisco 49ers

San Francisco also scored 18 points with five sacks, two interceptions, two fumble recoveries and one defensive touchdown while allowing Seattle 29 points. The unit was rostered in 28.9 percent of leagues. Washington is next on Monday night. Action: add, but treat it as a higher variance start. The counterargument is that the score required a touchdown and four takeaways to overcome the points allowed. A repeat of the five sack pressure is the sustainable part.

3. New York Jets

The Jets scored 16 points with eight sacks and two fumble recoveries while allowing Cleveland 12 points. The roster rate was only 11.7 percent. New England is next. Action: make the Jets a priority streamer. Eight sacks will regress, but the matchup and pressure ceiling justify the move. The counterargument is that zero interceptions and a low scoring game concentrated almost all value in sacks. If the pass rush falls back, the floor is lower than this finish suggests.

4. Houston Texans

Houston scored 15 points with four sacks, one interception and one fumble recovery while holding Tennessee to three points. The unit was rostered in 96.1 percent of leagues. Jacksonville is next in London. Action: hold and start where already rostered. The strongest counterargument is opponent quality because Tennessee entered winless and produced only 187 yards. Houston still has a three week baseline of 30 fantasy points, second best over that span, which supports sustainability.

5. Denver Broncos

Denver scored 12 points with five sacks, one interception and two fumble recoveries while allowing the Chargers 17 points. The roster rate was 91.6 percent. Seattle arrives Thursday. Action: hold, but review the short week matchup before locking the lineup. The counterargument is that two late turnovers swung both the real game and fantasy result. Denver has 28 points over Weeks 3 through 5, third among defenses in the verified baseline, so the broader form is strong.

6. New Orleans Saints

New Orleans scored 12 points with two sacks, two fumble recoveries and one defensive touchdown while allowing Minnesota 23 points. The roster rate was 19.7 percent. The Saints visit the Giants in Week 6. Action: consider them a matchup streamer. The counterargument is that the defensive score carried the total and Minnesota still won. A road date with a Giants offense that just played a full overtime game creates opportunity, but this is not a set and forget unit.

7. Minnesota Vikings

Minnesota scored 11 points with one sack, two interceptions and one fumble recovery while allowing New Orleans 13 points. The roster rate was 70.3 percent. Minnesota is on bye in Week 6. Action: hold if bench space allows, otherwise make a planned one week move. The counterargument is that only one sack limits the repeatable weekly ceiling. The three week baseline is excellent at 36 points, best in the verified FantasyPros window.

8. Cincinnati Bengals

Cincinnati scored nine points with three sacks, two interceptions and one fumble recovery while allowing Miami 24 points. The roster rate was 50.6 percent. Cincinnati is on bye in Week 6. Action: do not spend a waiver priority for immediate use. The counterargument to dropping is that Jordan Battle produced two interceptions and the unit has 16 points over the past three games. Managers with deep benches can hold, but most can stream the open spot.

9. Cleveland Browns

Cleveland scored nine points with four sacks and two fumble recoveries while allowing the Jets 17 points. The roster rate was 36.1 percent. Baltimore is next. Action: hold in deeper formats but seek a safer Week 6 start. The counterargument is that four sacks and four forced fumbles show disruption even in a loss. The difficult part is converting forced fumbles into recoveries, which is volatile, while the Ravens present a tougher scoring environment.

10. Seattle Seahawks

Seattle scored eight points with three sacks, one interception and two fumble recoveries while allowing San Francisco 32 points. The roster rate was 93.9 percent. Denver is next on Thursday. Action: hold and consider starting if the injury report remains favorable. The counterargument is that four takeaways covered for 32 points allowed. Seattle has 23 points over Weeks 3 through 5, so the recent baseline is useful, but the short week increases uncertainty.

Football Nation conclusion

Green Bay is the best combination of Week 5 production, attainable roster rate and immediate usability. The Jets offer the clearest streaming path because their pass rush faces New England next. Houston, Denver, Minnesota and Seattle are stronger season long holds, although Minnesota and Cincinnati require Week 6 bye plans. Monday night can still change the final top ten, and managers should update this list after Bills at Rams.
