Week 8 Fantasy Market Pulse: Eight Workload and Waiver Corrections

6 min read

Week 8 waivers are unusually deep, but Sunday points alone do not define a new role. This Wednesday Fantasy Market Pulse separates confirmed workload from touchdown noise, identifies what changed, and sets a specific checkpoint for every claim.

Information cutoff: October 28, 2026 at 5:05 AM CDT. Week 8 opens Thursday night, while the Browns, Jets, Broncos, Dolphins and Commanders play Sunday. San Francisco is on a bye. Most teams had not yet issued a complete Wednesday practice report at this cutoff, so Football Nation will update this same canonical article Friday after official injury developments. Fantasy action assumes a 12 team redraft league with half PPR scoring unless noted.

Platform availability snapshot

Roster percentages are platform specific published snapshots, not executable league availability. Yahoo, ESPN and CBS values below were checked October 28, 2026 at 5:05 AM CDT. Where a public source included a player but did not expose an exact current percentage, the cell says so instead of inventing a number. Search your own league before setting a claim.

1. KC Concepcion is the first priority

Cleveland gave Concepcion 10 targets, and he caught eight passes for 129 yards. He added three carries for 23 yards, giving him 152 yards from scrimmage. The Browns now list him as a starting receiver on their Week 8 depth chart. The receiving volume and designed rushing work make this more useful than a single long touchdown.

Fantasy action: add Concepcion wherever Yahoo's 60 percent rate or another platform leaves him available, and use him as a wide receiver three or flex at Pittsburgh. The strongest counterargument is his 6.6 point average before the breakout and the continued presence of other established targets. The analysis changes if his route participation falls sharply or he draws fewer than six opportunities. Wednesday and Thursday practice participation are the next checkpoints.

2. Omar Cooper Jr. has earned a weekly role

Cooper followed a 103 yard return from injured reserve with five catches for 115 yards and a touchdown against Miami. The Jets' official notes credit him with 218 receiving yards across the last two games. That repeat performance matters more than his extreme 5.06 yards per route figure, which is unlikely to stay that high.

Fantasy action: Cooper should be rostered in every competitive league and can be started as a flex against Las Vegas. The strongest counterargument is that Garrett Wilson and the tight ends still command work, while Cooper has only three NFL games to his name. The analysis changes if he falls below five targets or becomes a rotational route player. The Week 8 depth chart and first practice report are the next checkpoints.

3. Jonah Coleman changed Denver's backfield math

Coleman returned from injured reserve and immediately led Denver's backs with nine carries for 54 yards and two catches for 15 yards. NFL waiver analysis charted him at 50 percent of the offensive snaps, ahead of RJ Harvey and J.K. Dobbins. Denver's official recap described the burst he added, but the team still used all three backs.

Fantasy action: prioritize Coleman as a bench add with flex value against Kansas City. The strongest counterargument is that Dobbins received the short touchdown and Harvey also scored, so Coleman does not own the goal line. The analysis changes if his snap share drops below roughly 35 percent or the receiving work disappears. Any coach comment about expanding his touches and the Wednesday practice report are the next checkpoints.

4. Rachaad White is a temporary lead back, not a solo back

Washington placed Jacory Croskey Merritt on injured reserve, creating at least a short lead window for White. In the first game without Croskey Merritt, White had seven carries for 27 yards and caught four of five targets for 30 yards and a touchdown. He was on bye in Week 7, so there is no fresh Sunday box score to chase.

Fantasy action: White is a borderline start against Philadelphia, especially in full PPR, and he should be added in shallow leagues where CBS's 72 percent rate still leaves him free. The strongest counterargument is a real committee with Austin Ekeler and Jeremy McNichols. The analysis changes if White loses most passing downs or falls below half of the backfield touches. Washington's first practice report is the next checkpoint.

5. Caleb Douglas is a ceiling stash, not a safe starter

Douglas returned with two catches for 70 yards and two touchdowns, including a 63 yard score. That production is useful evidence that Miami will use his speed, but two catches cannot establish a stable fantasy floor. Yahoo and ESPN still list him near 10 percent rostered, which makes him broadly available.

Fantasy action: add Douglas in leagues that reward upside, but keep him on the bench until the target base grows. The strongest counterargument to an aggressive claim is simple: both Week 7 catches became touchdowns, an outcome that cannot be projected every week. The analysis changes when Douglas earns at least five targets or a clearly expanded route role. Jaylen Waddle's official chest injury status and Miami's Wednesday practice report are the next checkpoints.

6. Dylan Sampson returned as Cleveland's passing down complement

Sampson came off injured reserve and produced 45 rushing yards on six carries plus 32 receiving yards on three catches. Cleveland's Week 8 depth chart keeps Quinshon Judkins first and Sampson second. That makes Sampson a complementary player rather than a takeover candidate, but nine touches in his first game back are enough to reopen the fantasy case.

Fantasy action: add Sampson in PPR formats and use him only as a deeper flex at Pittsburgh. The strongest counterargument is that Judkins remains the lead runner and also played well. The analysis changes if Sampson loses his three target role or settles below roughly 30 percent of the snaps. His knee participation and any weekly workload limit are the next checkpoints.

7. Chig Okonkwo gained the clearest target opening

Okonkwo has posted at least four catches and 60 receiving yards in consecutive games. Washington also confirmed that Terry McLaurin tore his patellar tendon and will miss the rest of the season. The team specifically identified Okonkwo as a player who could receive more targets, and NFL waiver analysis now places him behind Stefon Diggs in the emerging target order.

Fantasy action: Okonkwo is a viable Week 8 tight end streamer against Philadelphia and a priority for managers losing George Kittle or Isaiah Likely to the bye. The strongest counterargument is that Washington can distribute McLaurin's work among Antonio Williams, Treylon Burks and its backs. The analysis changes if Okonkwo falls below four targets or loses routes. Wednesday participation and red zone usage are the next checkpoints.

8. Kaelon Black is a bye week insurance claim

Black carried 12 times for 63 yards and a 30 yard touchdown against Atlanta. San Francisco then confirmed that Christian McCaffrey sustained a mild hamstring strain. The 49ers are off in Week 8, so Black cannot solve an immediate lineup hole, but his role would become valuable if McCaffrey cannot resume a normal workload after the bye.

Fantasy action: stash Black where the bench can absorb a bye player. Do not start him in Week 8 because San Francisco does not play. The strongest counterargument is that Kyle Shanahan expects McCaffrey to benefit from the bye and return, leaving Black as insurance. The analysis changes if McCaffrey practices fully before Week 9 with no limitation. San Francisco's first post bye practice report is the next checkpoint.

Wednesday action board

Priority adds: Concepcion, Cooper and Coleman. Immediate lineup candidates: Concepcion, Cooper, White and Okonkwo, subject to practice and active status. Deeper PPR flex: Sampson. Bench for evidence: Douglas. Bye stash only: Black. FN opinion: the best claim is the one that buys repeatable routes, targets or backfield work. A touchdown is supporting evidence only when the role exists underneath it.
