At 42, Aaron Rodgers is no longer taking ordinary August reps. Every snap in Pittsburgh’s 2026 camp belongs to the final preseason of a career he has publicly said will end after this year.
That made Saturday night at Latrobe Memorial Stadium more than a community practice. In a video posted by the Steelers after the Aug. 8 session, Rodgers is clearly visible in Pittsburgh’s No. 8 practice jersey directing the offense and delivering passes under the lights. The clip confirms participation and real offensive work. It does not provide a completion percentage, prove a depth-chart change or settle how much Rodgers will play before Week 1.
What the Steelers’ video confirms
Pittsburgh’s official event listing scheduled the night practice for 6 p.m. ET, with gates opening at 3 p.m. ET, fireworks afterward and ticket proceeds benefiting the Greater Latrobe School District. The team’s video matches that setting: Rodgers works through offense reps at the stadium with current Steelers personnel.
That distinction matters in training-camp coverage. A short team highlight is useful evidence that a player participated in the action shown; it is not a complete practice report. Why this camp is different
Rodgers removed the biggest ambiguity on July 28. Asked whether 2026 would be his final NFL season, he told NFL Network, “Yeah, this is it,” and added that there was “zero debate.” Pittsburgh had already re-signed him to a one-year contract on May 18, bringing him back for a second Steelers season.
The context also includes a familiar voice. Pittsburgh hired Mike McCarthy as head coach in January, reuniting Rodgers with the coach who worked with him for 13 seasons in Green Bay. Their history gives the Steelers a shared language, but it does not eliminate the hard work of installing an offense around a 42-year-old quarterback and a current Pittsburgh roster.

Rodgers’ first Steelers season was productive without being a statistical return to his MVP peak. Official NFL statistics list 327 completions on 498 attempts in 16 starts in 2025, a 65.7 percent completion rate, 3,322 passing yards, 24 touchdowns, seven interceptions and a 94.8 passer rating.
Those numbers explain both the optimism and the urgency. Rodgers protected the football and produced a better than three-to-one touchdown-to-interception ratio. His 6.7 yards per attempt, however, left room for the offense to create more explosive gains. The Steelers do not need August mythology. They need a repeatable passing game that can keep Rodgers upright, stay ahead of the chains and turn his command at the line into points. The organization’s own footage is encouraging because it shows the work happening. The meaningful test will be whether that rhythm survives pressure and game situations.

Pittsburgh’s published schedule puts the next checkpoint on Thursday, Aug. 13, when the Steelers host the Green Bay Packers at 7 p.m. ET. The team’s next open camp practice is scheduled for Monday morning at Saint Vincent College.
Whether Rodgers plays against Green Bay remains a coaching decision, not something Saturday’s video answers. If he sits, Pittsburgh can still use the week to sharpen the operation around him. If he plays, every snap against his former franchise will become a national storyline—one with obvious history beyond the normal stakes of a preseason opener.
