Adam Randall Returns to Practice: Ravens Fantasy Impact

4 min read

Baltimore Ravens rookie running back Adam Randall returned to practice Wednesday, opening a 21-day evaluation window for the team to activate him from injured reserve. The development adds an intriguing size-and-receiving profile to Baltimore’s backfield, but it does not create an immediate redraft pickup behind Derrick Henry and Justice Hill.

The practical fantasy answer is simple: Randall belongs on dynasty and deep-league watch lists, not in standard starting lineups. He still must prove he is healthy enough for activation, earn a game-day role and climb past Rasheen Ali on special teams before meaningful offensive touches become realistic.

What Baltimore confirmed

The Ravens announced that Randall practiced October 28 for the first time since being placed on injured reserve with a return designation before the regular season. Opening the window allows him to practice, but he is not yet on the active roster and Baltimore has not promised that he will play Sunday at Buffalo.

Randall was a fifth-round pick out of Clemson and converted from wide receiver to running back. Baltimore’s current player page lists him at 6-foot-3 and 240 pounds, giving the offense a different physical profile from its other reserve backs.

Why the preseason numbers matter

Randall produced 71 rushing yards and one touchdown on 17 carries in two preseason appearances. He also caught four of six targets for 47 yards. Those receiving numbers are important because they support the idea that his wide receiver background can translate to a change-of-pace role rather than a pure early-down backup job.

The sample is still too small to project an immediate regular-season workload. Preseason production established that Randall can handle both rushing and receiving assignments; it did not move him ahead of proven veterans before he missed the first seven weeks.

The Ravens depth-chart reality

Henry remains the unquestioned lead back with 147 carries for 579 yards and seven touchdowns through seven games. Hill has turned 21 carries into 140 yards, an efficient 6.7-yard average, while retaining the experience and pass-protection trust that usually matters most on third downs.

Ali has only four offensive carries for 19 yards, but he has returned six kickoffs and is listed behind Henry and Hill on Baltimore’s official depth chart. That special-teams role is Randall’s most immediate competition. Randall averaged more than 23 yards per kickoff return at Clemson, so his quickest route to an active game-day spot may be coverage and return work rather than offensive volume.

Fantasy football impact

Scoring framework: Football Nation’s redraft advice assumes half PPR scoring with one point for every 10 rushing or receiving yards and six points per rushing or receiving touchdown. League size, bench depth and return yardage settings can change Randall’s value, especially in dynasty formats.

Standard redraft leagues: Randall is not an add. Henry remains an RB1, and Hill remains the more practical handcuff or bench option because he already owns an established role. Randall would need an activation, a game-day uniform and evidence of offensive snaps before becoming waiver-wire relevant.

Deep leagues and dynasty: Randall is a reasonable watch-list or taxi-squad hold where roster sizes allow. His size, receiving background and draft capital create longer-term upside, but managers should not spend aggressively before Baltimore defines his role.

IDP and D/ST formats: Randall’s return has no direct defensive value. His best short-term path is special teams, where a successful return or coverage role could help him dress while the offensive depth chart remains crowded.

Strongest counterargument: Randall was a full practice participant Wednesday, owns receiving experience from his college position switch and produced as both a runner and receiver in the preseason. That profile could move him into a limited offensive package faster than a typical reserve. The rebuttal is that activation, game day availability and an offensive snap role remain unconfirmed, while Henry, Hill and Ali already hold defined jobs.

Week 8 outlook at Buffalo

Baltimore visits the Buffalo Bills on Sunday, November 1 at noon Central on CBS and Paramount+. The Ravens enter 4-3, while Buffalo is 5-1. Because Randall has just started practicing, the activation decision and Sunday inactive list matter more than the matchup itself.

Even if Baltimore activates him before kickoff, a limited special-teams debut would be more likely than a sudden rotation with Henry. Fantasy managers should treat any offensive snap as information for future weeks, not as proof that a usable Week 8 role already exists.

What to watch next

  • Whether Randall practices without a setback Thursday and Friday.

  • Whether Baltimore activates him to the 53-man roster before Sunday.

  • Whether Randall or Ali is active as the third running back and return option.

  • Any special-teams snaps, targets or designed touches in his first game back.

  • Whether Baltimore describes Randall as part of an offensive rotation or only as depth.

Football Nation conclusion: Randall’s return is a positive development for Baltimore’s depth and a worthwhile dynasty note, but there is no evidence yet of a redraft role. Keep Henry locked into lineups, value Hill as the established reserve and wait for activation plus game-day usage before considering Randall.
