Broncos 23, Chargers 17: Denver's Defense Flips the Fourth Quarter

Denver rallied from a 17 to 10 deficit to beat the Chargers 23 to 17 on October 11. The Broncos scored 13 points in the fourth quarter, with their defense providing the possessions that changed the game.

The stop that reopened the door

After Denver missed a field goal attempt, Los Angeles had a chance to protect its lead. Instead, the Chargers went for a fourth down in their own territory and the Broncos stopped Justin Herbert's quarterback sneak. Denver converted the opportunity into a tying touchdown to Courtland Sutton.

Two takeaways finished the turnaround

Zach Allen's strip sack of Herbert set up the field goal that put Denver ahead. Brandon Jones then intercepted a fourth down pass, creating another scoring opportunity. A second field goal stretched the advantage to six.

Key contributions

Denver recorded three takeaways overall. Nik Bonitto had two sacks, J.K. Dobbins ran for 68 yards and a touchdown, and Ja'Quan McMillian sacked Herbert on the final play before a desperation throw could be launched. Earlier, Kimani Vidal's 42 yard touchdown run had helped Los Angeles take control.

Football Nation takeaway

Denver's ability to create pressure late mattered more than a smooth offensive afternoon. The fourth down stop did not count as a turnover in the box score, yet it had the same practical effect: a lost Chargers possession and an immediate chance for Denver to score. Fantasy managers evaluating defensive production should distinguish that broader game impact from the specific plays their league awards points for.
