Official Week 6 inactive-list update

New Orleans did not list Chris Olave inactive, so he is active against the Giants after returning to a limited Friday practice following an illness. His established target role keeps him in fantasy lineups, with conditioning and in-game usage the remaining variables. Status checked at 12:18 p.m. Central on October 18, 2026. Chris Olave is questionable for the New Orleans Saints’ Week 6 road game against the New York Giants after an illness kept him out of practice Wednesday and Thursday. He returned for a limited session Friday, which gives fantasy managers a positive signal without guaranteeing that he will play.

The decision carries unusual weight because Olave has been one of the NFL’s most productive receivers through five games. He has 39 catches for 537 yards and one touchdown, an average of 7.8 receptions and 107.4 yards per game. If he is active without a reported restriction, that volume makes him a clear fantasy starter. If he is inactive, New Orleans will have to distribute a massive share of Tyler Shough’s passing game among Devaughn Vele, Juwan Johnson, Noah Fant and the running backs.

What the final injury report says

The NFL’s Week 6 injury report lists Olave as questionable with an illness. The Saints play at 1 p.m. Eastern, noon Central, on Sunday, October 18, so his status will be known before the main early lineup window. The official inactive list is normally released about 90 minutes before kickoff.

Olave’s Friday return matters. A limited practice after two missed sessions usually gives a player a better path to Sunday than another absence would have, but illness designations can change quickly. Fantasy managers should not treat the Friday participation as final clearance.

Why Olave remains a fantasy start if active

Olave’s weekly production shows why the default should be to start him if he is active. He opened the season with 10 catches for 182 yards, followed with eight catches for 86 yards and a touchdown, then posted nine catches for 107 yards and eight catches for 116 yards. Even his quietest game produced four receptions for 46 yards.

The matchup also preserves upside. New York ruled out cornerback Colton Hood and safety Tyler Nubin, while the Giants listed pass rusher Abdul Carter and both starting offensive tackles as questionable. The secondary absences do not guarantee a big receiving day, but they reduce the case for fading a healthy Olave solely because he missed practice time.

In full PPR formats, Olave belongs in the high end WR1 conversation if active. In half PPR and standard scoring, he remains a strong starter because his five game yardage profile creates a ceiling few receivers can match. The only reason to move him down is credible pregame reporting of a snap limit or lingering symptoms.

What happens if Olave is inactive

There is no direct one player replacement. Devaughn Vele has 25 catches for 252 yards and two touchdowns. Juwan Johnson has 25 receptions for 248 yards and three scores. Noah Fant has only nine catches for 73 yards, but three of those receptions have gone for touchdowns.

Vele is the best bet for added wide receiver routes and targets. He would move into the flex discussion, especially in PPR formats, but his current 10.1 yards per catch suggests that volume matters more than one play explosiveness. Johnson would become the safest Saints pass catcher outside the backfield because his existing role already includes short and intermediate work. Fant would remain a touchdown dependent option rather than a target floor play.

Olave’s absence would also lower Shough’s fantasy ceiling. The Saints quarterback has completed 137 of 205 passes for 1,299 yards, nine touchdowns and five interceptions. Removing a receiver responsible for more than 41 percent of the team’s passing yards would make the offense easier to defend and would increase the chance that New Orleans leans on shorter throws.

The Alvin Kamara complication

Olave is not the only major Saints skill player carrying a designation. Alvin Kamara is questionable with a back injury after three limited practices. That creates four possible lineup combinations, and each changes the distribution of touches.

If both Olave and Kamara play, fantasy roles stay closest to normal. If Olave plays and Kamara sits, Olave’s target floor could rise while Kendre Miller handles more rushing work. If Olave sits and Kamara plays, Kamara, Vele and Johnson become the most logical volume beneficiaries. If both sit, the Saints would be missing their leading receiver and their primary veteran back, making Shough a much riskier start and spreading touches across Vele, Johnson, Fant, Miller and other depth options.

Fantasy lineup plan

If Olave is active and no restriction is reported, start him in nearly every format. If he is inactive, move Vele into the PPR flex conversation and upgrade Johnson at tight end, but do not expect either player to reproduce Olave’s complete role. Fant is a deep league touchdown bet, while Shough becomes a lower ceiling two quarterback option.

Managers with Olave should identify a Sunday early window fallback now. The safest contingency is another receiver from the 1 p.m. Eastern games, because waiting for a later player can create an avoidable lineup problem if Olave is ruled out. Check both the Saints’ inactive list and trusted pregame reporting around 11:30 a.m. Eastern.

Bottom line

Olave’s limited Friday practice makes him more likely to play than his two earlier absences suggested, but questionable still means his status is unresolved. His 39 catches and 537 yards make the decision simple if he is active: start him unless the Saints announce a meaningful restriction. If he is out, New Orleans will replace him by committee, with Vele and Johnson offering the clearest fantasy paths.
