NFL Network Returns to Xfinity Before 2026 Preseason

Confirmed: Disney and Comcast have reached a carriage agreement that restores NFL Network and NFL RedZone to eligible Xfinity TV customers. The deal ends a blackout that began when the prior agreement expired at the end of April, putting the channels back in place before the 2026 NFL season.

For football fans, this is more than a routine distribution update. NFL Network is a year-round source for league coverage and live games, while NFL RedZone becomes a central part of many viewers’ Sunday routine once the regular season begins. The return also arrives as preseason schedules, roster battles and depth-chart decisions are becoming daily news.

Confirmed: NFL Network and RedZone return to Xfinity

Reuters reported on August 10 that the new agreement restores NFL Network and NFL RedZone for roughly 11 million Xfinity television subscribers. Financial terms were not disclosed. Availability can still depend on a customer’s package and local channel lineup, so the agreement should not be read as a promise that every Xfinity account automatically receives both services.

The NFL’s official support page describes NFL Network as a 24-hour channel carrying live games, studio programming, original series and league coverage. The league also directs viewers to its official TV-provider finder to check local access.

Why the channels went dark

NFL Network and RedZone disappeared from Xfinity lineups after the previous carriage contract expired at the end of April. Distribution disputes are usually about the price and terms under which a provider can carry a network, but neither side disclosed the financial details of this settlement. That limits any confident conclusion about whether packages or subscriber prices will change.

The ownership backdrop also shifted this year. ESPN’s official account of the transaction says ESPN acquired NFL Network and other NFL media assets while the league received a 10 percent equity stake in ESPN. Reuters reports that Disney owns 72 percent of ESPN and that ESPN took control of the NFL media assets earlier in 2026.

What Xfinity viewers regain

NFL Network’s value is most obvious around live windows, but the channel also connects the calendar: preseason games in August, roster cutdowns, weekly studio coverage, international and special broadcasts, draft programming and offseason events. RedZone has a narrower purpose but an especially devoted audience, moving among scoring opportunities during Sunday afternoon regular-season games.

The timing matters before the preseason

ESPN’s official preseason announcement says NFL Network will televise 19 live games during the 2026 preseason, with additional matchups available through ESPN platforms. That slate gives the restored agreement immediate practical value: Xfinity customers who receive the channel can again use it for live exhibition games and the analysis surrounding them.

Preseason television is fragmented by national windows, local broadcasts and out-of-market rules. Viewers should still consult their on-screen guide and local listings before kickoff. The carriage agreement restores the channel relationship; it does not erase normal market restrictions or guarantee that every preseason game is available in every location.

Football Nation analysis: fans win, but key details remain private

The clearest winner is the audience. A prolonged blackout would have forced affected fans to change providers, add a separate streaming service or miss NFL Network’s preseason schedule. Resolving the dispute before the regular season also avoids a much larger problem around RedZone, a product people often consider when choosing a football-season package.

The deal is also strategically important for ESPN and Disney. After bringing NFL Network and RedZone distribution rights into the ESPN portfolio, maintaining broad pay-TV carriage protects both audience reach and the value of those assets. Comcast, meanwhile, avoids entering football season without two products that can influence whether sports-focused customers keep their television package.

Still, the unknown financial terms matter. Carriage agreements can affect wholesale fees and package placement, and those details ultimately shape what customers pay and where channels appear. Until Xfinity publishes updated local lineups and customers see their bills, the responsible conclusion is limited: access is returning, but the long-term consumer cost is not yet public.

What viewers should do now

Xfinity customers should refresh their guide, search for NFL Network and check whether NFL RedZone is included in their current sports tier. If a channel does not appear immediately, confirm the local lineup through Xfinity support before changing equipment or service. Channel restoration can roll through account and guide systems at different speeds.

Fans should also verify kickoff coverage game by game. NFL Network’s return solves the carriage blackout, but local-market rules, simultaneous national broadcasts and package eligibility still determine what appears on a specific screen.
