Packers Activate Savion Williams, Place Skyy Moore on IR

The Green Bay Packers added a versatile offensive piece one day before hosting the Dallas Cowboys. Green Bay activated wide receiver Savion Williams from injured reserve Saturday, making the second year playmaker eligible to make his 2026 season debut on Sunday night.

The move matters because the Packers simultaneously placed wide receiver Skyy Moore on injured reserve. Williams is not expected to displace Christian Watson or Matthew Golden at the top of the passing game hierarchy, but his return gives coach Matt LaFleur another receiver, runner and kickoff return option at a point when Green Bay’s depth has been thinned by injuries.

Packers make five Saturday roster moves

Green Bay’s official transaction announcement confirmed that Williams was activated from injured reserve. The Packers also placed Moore, defensive tackle Jonathan Ford and defensive tackle Javon Hargrave on injured reserve. Edge rusher Arron Mosby and receiver Coleman Owen were elevated from the practice squad for the Cowboys game.

Williams remains listed as questionable because of the ankle injury that kept him out for the first five games. Activation removes the roster barrier; it does not guarantee a full workload. He practiced on a limited basis throughout the week after Green Bay opened his 21 day return window on October 7.

What Savion Williams adds to Green Bay’s offense

Williams is more useful to Green Bay than his rookie receiving line alone suggests. The 2025 third round pick played 12 games and finished with 10 receptions for 78 yards and one touchdown. He also carried 11 times for 37 yards and averaged 25.6 yards on 28 kickoff returns. The Packers’ official player biography notes that the return average was the second best by a Green Bay rookie with at least 25 returns since the 1970 merger, trailing only Randall Cobb’s 27.7 yard average in 2011.

LaFleur highlighted Williams’ route running growth this week while also noting the different positions Green Bay has used him in. At TCU, Williams produced as a receiver, runner and occasional passer. That background gives the Packers legitimate motion, jet sweep and backfield possibilities without requiring him to play every passing snap.

Williams also has relevant history against Dallas. In the teams’ 40 to 40 tie last season, he caught three passes for 22 yards and added a 1 yard rush. That was his most productive receiving game through the first half of his rookie season, but it still came on only 10 offensive snaps. The performance is evidence that Green Bay can design a small package for him, not proof that he will immediately command starter level volume.

Fantasy football impact against the Cowboys

Savion Williams: Keep him on the bench in normal redraft leagues. His first game snap count is uncertain, and Watson and Golden remain the primary receivers. Williams is a watch list player in deep leagues and a dynasty hold because Green Bay can manufacture touches for him. Managers in return yardage formats have the strongest reason to monitor Sunday’s role.

Jordan Love: Williams’ activation is a modest positive, not a reason to materially change Love’s ranking. The quarterback already has a favorable matchup against a Dallas defense that has struggled to prevent efficient passing. Another player capable of carrying the ball, returning kicks and turning a short touch into extra yards slightly widens LaFleur’s menu.

Christian Watson and Matthew Golden: Their fantasy roles do not change. Williams should take snaps from the bottom of the receiver rotation and handle specialty work before he meaningfully cuts into the two leading wideouts. Watson and Golden remain the Packers receivers to start against Dallas.

Skyy Moore’s injured reserve move changes the depth chart

Green Bay had already ruled Moore out with an ankle injury before moving him to injured reserve. The Packers’ final injury report also noted that Jayden Reed’s season is over because of a neck injury. That combination leaves less room for Green Bay to ease Williams back without using him at all.

Owen’s gameday elevation provides insurance, while Williams supplies the more established return and gadget profile. The Packers can still protect Williams with a limited offensive package, but the active roster now has a clearer path for him to contribute immediately if his ankle responds well during pregame work.

The defensive line transactions are a separate concern

Hargrave’s move to injured reserve formalizes a season ending absence that Football Nation has already covered in the canonical Javon Hargrave Achilles injury update. Ford’s calf injury creates an additional Week 6 depth problem. Green Bay entered Saturday with only Devonte Wyatt, Karl Brooks and Chris McClellan as healthy defensive linemen on the 53 player roster, while Anthony Campbell remained questionable with an ankle injury.

That issue has more direct fantasy relevance for Dallas running back Javonte Williams than Savion Williams’ activation does for Green Bay’s established receivers. A depleted interior can affect early down efficiency and red zone defense even when the Packers compensate with edge players or heavier linebacker fronts.

What to watch Sunday night

The first checkpoint is the Packers’ inactive list. Williams is eligible to play but remains questionable, so fantasy managers should confirm he is active. The more important clues will come on the opening drives: whether he returns kickoffs, lines up in the slot, motions into the backfield or rotates as a conventional outside receiver.

A handful of designed touches would be the most realistic first step. If Williams plays 15 to 25 offensive snaps and handles return work without a setback, his role could expand after Green Bay’s Week 7 personnel changes. If he is active only as emergency depth, he should remain off redraft rosters despite the attractive skill set.

Bottom line

Williams’ activation gives the Packers a useful multidimensional player at the right time, but it should not be mistaken for a full fantasy breakout signal. Watson and Golden remain the center of Green Bay’s passing attack. Williams is a bench and monitor option whose value comes from designed touches, return ability and the possibility of earning more work while Moore and Reed are unavailable.
