Updated: 2 days ago

Football Nation conclusion: Detroit still has the cleaner rest setup, but Green Bay arrives 4–2 after a 23–13 win over Dallas. Jordan Love threw for 276 yards and a touchdown, Matthew Golden produced 104 receiving yards, and the Packers intercepted Dak Prescott twice. The early call stays Lions 27, Packers 24, but Green Bay’s Week 6 result narrows the margin and makes the final injury report more important.

Final result update: Green Bay’s Week 6 result is now included. The five game rate statistics below remain explicitly labeled through Week 5 until ESPN and TeamRankings post complete six game tables. The 23–13 final, 4–2 record, verified Week 6 leaders and known injuries were checked October 18, 2026 at 11:00 p.m. CT.

Game details

Green Bay visits Detroit on Sunday, October 25, 2026, at Ford Field. Kickoff is scheduled for 4:25 p.m. Eastern and 3:25 p.m. Central on FOX. FOX lists streaming through FOX One. Ford Field is an indoor venue, so wind and precipitation should not affect play selection or kicking. Outside weather matters only for travel.

Detroit is 3–2 after its Week 6 bye. Green Bay is 4–2 after beating Dallas 23–13 and has the fresher positive result, while Detroit owns the true rest advantage. This NFC North game can separate the division race before the clubs reach the middle of the schedule.

Rest and travel matter. Detroit had the Week 6 bye and stays home. Green Bay played Sunday night in Lambeau and now has a normal six day turnaround before traveling to Detroit. The schedule still favors the Lions, but the Packers no longer carry the uncertainty of an unfinished Week 6 game.

Recent form now includes Green Bay’s 23–13 win over Dallas after its 31–7 win over Chicago. The Packers have won four of six and held Dallas scoreless in the first half. Detroit returns from its bye at 3–2. Green Bay’s result raises the floor of this matchup, but Detroit’s extra preparation time remains the central scheduling edge.

The statistical matchup

TeamRankings data through five games describes two very different profiles. Detroit scored 32.8 points per game, first in the league, and gained 393.8 yards per game with 5.9 yards per play. Green Bay scored 20.8 points per game and gained 331.4 yards with 5.6 yards per play. Detroit has the higher weekly ceiling, but its defense allowed 29.6 points and 404.4 yards per game, last in total yardage allowed.

Green Bay’s defense was the steadier unit. The Packers allowed 308.6 yards per game and only 4.7 yards per play, both top ten level marks. Their weakness was situational. Opponents converted 44.29 percent of third downs and scored touchdowns on 81.25 percent of red zone trips. Detroit converts scoring opportunities into touchdowns at a 77.27 percent rate, so Green Bay cannot rely on bending near the goal line.

The same warning applies to Detroit. The Lions allowed opponents to convert 50.70 percent of third downs and score touchdowns on 80.95 percent of red zone visits. Green Bay’s own third down rate was only 27.59 percent, last in the league, and its red zone touchdown rate was 50 percent. The Packers’ clearest offensive improvement would be sustaining drives long enough to force Detroit’s defense to defend the entire playbook.

Passing baseline through Week 5: Jordan Love and Green Bay remained the more explosive early down passing offense in the comparison tables. In Week 6, Love added 276 passing yards and one touchdown, while Matthew Golden reached 104 receiving yards. Those performances are cited as a single game update rather than folded into the five game rate table before the full official six game statistics post.

Detroit’s offense was more balanced. Jared Goff threw for 1,485 yards with 12 touchdowns and no interceptions through five games. Jahmyr Gibbs produced 504 rushing yards, seven rushing touchdowns, 243 receiving yards and two receiving touchdowns. Amon Ra St. Brown led the Lions with 372 receiving yards, with Sam LaPorta at 316 and Jameson Williams at 276. Detroit can win through early down efficiency, play action or empty formations without changing personnel.

Protection could decide the game. Green Bay allowed sacks on 5.13 percent of pass attempts, while Detroit generated sacks on 8.58 percent of opponent attempts. The Packers generated pressure at an 8.19 percent sack rate themselves. Detroit’s protection was solid at 5.45 percent allowed, but the Lions have not faced many defenses that can combine coverage and takeaway pressure as efficiently as Green Bay did through five weeks.

Turnovers are the strongest reason to resist a comfortable Detroit pick. The Lions gave the ball away only 0.2 times per game and carried a plus 0.8 turnover margin. Green Bay was plus 0.6, with 1.8 takeaways per game. If Goff continues to protect the ball, Detroit’s red zone offense should separate. If the Packers steal two possessions, their explosive passing game can erase the rest disadvantage.

Injuries and roster checkpoints

Green Bay Week 6 availability update: Aaron Banks was inactive against Dallas, while Brandon Cisse and Anthony Campbell were active. MarShawn Lloyd left after the first quarter turnover sequence, and no Week 7 diagnosis or game designation was confirmed at this cutoff. The first Week 7 practice report is the next authoritative checkpoint.

Keisean Nixon, Lukas Van Ness, Evan Williams and Devonte Wyatt finished the Week 6 practice cycle without game designations. That was encouraging, but their Dallas workloads still need review. Micah Parsons remained in rehabilitation from a torn ACL and was not expected to practice in Week 6. A possible later October return is not the same as confirmed Week 7 availability, so this guide treats his status as uncertain.

Josh Jacobs was removed from the Commissioner’s Exempt List and became eligible to return in Week 7. Eligibility does not establish activation, conditioning or workload. If he is cleared for a real role, Green Bay gains a more credible answer to its league low rushing production and Detroit cannot sit as aggressively on Love’s dropbacks.

Detroit’s official Week 7 injury report was not yet available. The roster baseline included several players on injured reserve, including Avonte Maddox, Devin White, Damone Clark, Payton Turner and Cade Mays. Those are not Week 7 game designations. The important checkpoint is Detroit’s Wednesday through Friday practice report and any injured reserve activation window, especially in the secondary and along the offensive line.

Scheme keys and paths to victory

Detroit’s clearest path is to force Green Bay to tackle Gibbs for four quarters. The Packers allowed 127.6 rushing yards per game despite a strong per play defensive profile. Gibbs can stress linebackers with angle routes and motion, then punish light boxes. If Detroit stays ahead of the chains, Goff can use play action to isolate St. Brown and LaPorta against zones near the goal line.

Green Bay’s best answer is tempo and early down passing. Detroit’s pass defense allowed nearly 300 yards per game, and its third down defense has not earned the right to dictate long yardage. Love should attack on first down with Watson and Golden stretching the field, then use quick throws to keep the Lions’ pass rush from controlling the game. The Packers cannot wait for obvious passing downs.

For Detroit, the coaching challenge is patience. Love’s arm talent will create completions, but the Lions can still win by limiting explosive touchdowns and making Green Bay finish drives. For Green Bay, the defensive challenge is red zone discipline. Detroit’s offense is too efficient for missed tackles or communication errors once the field compresses.

Opening market snapshot and price sensitivity

FanDuel’s matchup page listed an opening spread of Detroit minus 3.5, an opening moneyline of Detroit minus 215 and Green Bay plus 180, and an opening total of 51.5. The page did not provide executable live game or player prop odds when checked at 10:10 a.m. Central on October 18. These numbers are therefore a published opening snapshot, not a bet offer.

A 51.5 total with Detroit favored by 3.5 implies approximately Lions 27.5 and Packers 24.0. That aligns closely with Football Nation’s projected score. The side becomes less attractive above Detroit minus 3.5 because Green Bay’s passing game and turnover ability keep a one score finish plausible. Green Bay becomes more interesting at plus 4.5 or better. A move below 50 would require a meaningful injury explanation before supporting an under, because both defenses have serious third down and red zone concerns.

Player workload evaluations while props are pending

No executable player prop market was available at the check time, so the following are evaluation thresholds rather than current wagers. Jordan Love passing yards would draw over interest at 249.5 or lower because Detroit allowed the most total yardage and Green Bay already leans pass heavy. The case against is Detroit’s home pass rush and any Week 6 protection injuries. At 275.5 or higher, the edge would be gone.

Jared Goff passing yards would be interesting over at 269.5 or lower, given Detroit’s 279.6 passing yards per game and Green Bay’s red zone vulnerability. The counter is Green Bay’s top ten total defense and takeaway rate. At 289.5 or higher, the Packers’ ability to shorten drives makes the over too demanding.

Jahmyr Gibbs rushing yards would deserve over consideration at 84.5 or lower. Green Bay allowed 127.6 rushing yards per game, and Detroit’s rest advantage supports a heavy opening script. The counter is that Detroit may attack through the air if Green Bay crowds the box. At 99.5 or higher, the required volume becomes uncomfortable.

Gibbs receptions would be appealing over at 3.5 or lower because he had 243 receiving yards through five games and remains a matchup answer against pressure. The strongest case against is that Detroit can win this matchup through conventional runs and downfield throws. A line of 5.5 would be too expensive without a teammate absence.

Christian Watson receiving yards would merit over interest at 69.5 or lower against a Detroit defense allowing 297.4 passing yards per game. His role carries volatility, and Detroit can roll safety help toward him. At 84.5 or higher, the reliance on explosive plays outweighs the matchup advantage.

Amon Ra St. Brown receptions would be attractive over at 6.5 or lower because his route volume and intermediate role translate well against Green Bay’s coverage structure. The counter is Detroit’s ability to distribute touchdowns among Gibbs, LaPorta and Williams. At 8.5, the required target share is too aggressive.

Sam LaPorta receiving yards would warrant over interest at 44.5 or lower. His 316 yards through five games and Detroit’s red zone efficiency create a stable role. Green Bay’s strong pass defense is the counterargument. At 58.5 or higher, the Packers’ ability to contest the middle makes the line unattractive.

Fantasy football guidance

Scoring format: half point per reception. Gibbs and St. Brown remain automatic starts. LaPorta is a clear tight end one, and Goff is a low end quarterback one or strong quarterback two because the total and indoor setting support multiple touchdowns. Jameson Williams is a volatile flex whose ceiling depends on downfield opportunities.

Jordan Love remains a start in standard one quarterback leagues after 276 passing yards and a touchdown against Dallas. Matthew Golden’s 104 yard game strengthens his flex case, but Week 7 target expectations still depend on the final receiving corps availability and Detroit’s coverage plan.

Green Bay backfield guidance remains conditional. Josh Jacobs is eligible to return in Week 7, and MarShawn Lloyd’s status is newly uncertain after leaving the Dallas game. Treat the starter as an RB2 with upside only after the first practice report clarifies participation and role. Do not infer a full workload from eligibility alone.

Prediction, counterargument and upset path

Football Nation prediction: Lions 27, Packers 24. Detroit’s bye, offensive balance and red zone efficiency are the difference in a close divisional game. The Lions can make Green Bay defend every horizontal and vertical area, then lean on Gibbs when the pass rush tires.

The strongest counterargument is Green Bay’s passing matchup. Love, Watson and Golden can exploit a Detroit defense that finished the five game sample last in yards allowed, and the Packers’ takeaway rate can steal the possession Detroit’s rest advantage is supposed to create. The upset path is two Green Bay takeaways, at least three explosive completions and a red zone defensive stand.

The fact most likely to change the call is Green Bay’s Week 7 health, especially the offensive line and backfield. The 23–13 win over Dallas strengthens the Packers’ upset case. A clean Josh Jacobs return or another favorable defensive turnover matchup could move Football Nation toward Green Bay; a limited line and compressed backfield would preserve the Lions edge.

Game day checklist

Game day checklist: review the official Week 6 gamebook and snap counts when posted; confirm the first and final Week 7 injury reports; verify Josh Jacobs and MarShawn Lloyd availability; check Detroit’s post bye personnel plan; review the inactive list 90 minutes before kickoff; refresh weather and any executable spread, total, moneyline and prop markets.
