Saints Activate Zach Wood, Elevate Cedric Tillman vs. Giants: Week 6 Impact
The New Orleans Saints added two specialists to their Week 6 gameday plan Saturday, activating long snapper Zach Wood from injured reserve and using a standard elevation on wide receiver Cedric Tillman for Sunday’s road game against the New York Giants. The move makes both players eligible for the noon CT kickoff at MetLife Stadium.
Wood’s return addresses the snapping operation. Tillman’s elevation is the more visible fantasy football signal because New Orleans entered the weekend with Chris Olave listed questionable due to illness. The transaction adds insurance, but it does not by itself establish a major receiving role for Tillman.
What the Saints changed
The Saints announced the moves on Oct. 17. Wood practiced fully Wednesday through Friday while designated to return, then was activated before the game. He had still carried a questionable designation on Friday’s injury report because of a calf injury.
Wood, 33, is in his 10th season with New Orleans. The Saints list him with 150 career regular season appearances, including one in 2026, and describe him as their second longest tenured player. His activation allows New Orleans to restore its regular long snapper for field goals, extra points and punts.
Tillman, 26, joins the active roster for the day via the standard elevation mechanism. The 6 foot 3, 215 pound receiver appeared in the Saints’ Week 5 loss to Minnesota but did not record a reception. His prior three seasons with Cleveland produced 71 catches for 833 yards and five touchdowns across 38 games.
Why Tillman’s elevation matters
New Orleans ruled neither Olave nor Alvin Kamara out Friday, but both carried questionable designations. Olave missed practice Wednesday and Thursday before returning as a limited participant Friday. Kamara was limited all three days with a back injury.
Tillman gives the Saints another outside receiver if Olave’s illness limits him or keeps him out. That is meaningful roster protection, not proof of a target spike. The offense still has established options in Devaughn Vele and tight end Juwan Johnson, and Tillman has not logged a 2026 catch. His size could make him a situational boundary or red zone option, but any exact assignment is an inference until the Saints show their personnel plan.
Fantasy football impact
Chris Olave: Keep him in the lineup only if he is active and your roster can tolerate the illness related risk. The official inactive list is the decisive checkpoint.
Cedric Tillman: Watch list only in deep leagues. An elevation creates a path to snaps, but not enough evidence for a Week 6 start.
Devaughn Vele and Juwan Johnson: Both would have a clearer route to extra targets if Olave is inactive. Tillman’s presence slightly reduces the chance that all vacated work concentrates in one player.
Saints specialists: Wood’s return is positive for operational continuity, but it is not a reason by itself to change kicker or defense and special teams rankings.
What to watch before kickoff
As of 10:12 a.m. CT Sunday, the teams had not yet released their official inactive lists. Those lists are due approximately 90 minutes before the noon CT kickoff. Confirm Olave and Kamara before setting lineups; also verify that Wood is active even after his roster activation.
