Uchenna Nwosu, DeMarcus Lawrence Questionable vs. Chiefs: Week 7 Impact
Seattle’s two starting edge defenders landed on the final Week 7 injury report at the worst possible time. Uchenna Nwosu is questionable with a hip issue and DeMarcus Lawrence is questionable with a knee injury for Sunday night’s home game against the unbeaten Kansas City Chiefs.
Both injuries first appeared on Thursday’s report, and both players were limited Friday. That late-week timing makes the pregame inactive list especially important for Seahawks fans, fantasy managers and anyone evaluating Patrick Mahomes against one of the NFL’s best explosive-play defenses.
What Seattle announced Friday
The Seahawks listed five players as questionable: Nwosu, Lawrence, safety Nick Emmanwori, backup quarterback Drew Lock and outside linebacker Connor O’Toole. Seattle also ruled out linebackers Drake Thomas and Chazz Surratt, thinning the second level before a matchup with an offense that can stress every part of the field.
Nwosu has recorded 15 total tackles, one sack and one forced fumble through six games. Lawrence has 12 tackles and has not yet recorded a sack this season. Their raw sack totals do not fully capture their jobs in Seattle’s front, particularly against the run and on early downs.
Why the timing matters against Kansas City
Seattle enters the game 3-3 after consecutive losses. Kansas City is 5-0 and brings one of the league’s most explosive attacks to Lumen Field on Sunday, October 25, at 7:20 p.m. Central.
The Chiefs are averaging 8.3 yards per pass attempt, tied for third in the NFL, and have six completions of at least 40 yards, tied for second. Their overall explosive-play rate is 17.8 percent, while their explosive rate on dropbacks is 19.8 percent; both rank second.
That creates an excellent strength-on-strength matchup. Seattle has allowed only eight completions of 20-plus yards, the fewest in the league, and only one completion of at least 40 yards, tied for the fewest. The Seahawks have surrendered an explosive play on just 7.2 percent of snaps, the NFL’s best rate through six games.
Pressure is part of how Seattle protects that secondary. If Nwosu or Lawrence is unavailable—or active on a reduced workload—Mike Macdonald may need more from Derick Hall, Dante Fowler Jr. and the interior trio of Leonard Williams, Byron Murphy II and Jarran Reed.
Depth-chart impact if either starter sits
Lawrence is listed first at the RUSH position, with Hall behind him. Nwosu is the starting strong-side linebacker, with Fowler second and O’Toole third. The complication is that O’Toole is also questionable with a hamstring injury.
Hall is the clearest individual beneficiary if Lawrence cannot play. He has 13 tackles and two sacks this season, making him a viable deep-league IDP streamer if Seattle confirms a larger role. Fowler would be the logical snap-share winner on Nwosu’s side, but managers should treat that as a role projection rather than a guaranteed one-for-one replacement.
The edge rotation also matters against the run. Former Seahawks star Kenneth Walker III leads the NFL with 665 rushing yards and 6.3 yards per carry for Kansas City. Seattle has held opponents to 3.5 yards per carry and has not allowed an individual 100-yard rusher in 35 consecutive games, including the playoffs.
Fantasy football and betting impact
Patrick Mahomes receives a modest matchup upgrade if one of Seattle’s starting edge defenders is inactive and a larger upgrade if both sit. That does not automatically turn the game into a shootout: Seattle’s coverage unit has been elite at limiting explosives, and the Seahawks can still generate pressure from the interior.
For team-defense formats, Seattle’s D/ST becomes a riskier start if both Nwosu and Lawrence are out. Kansas City already protects the ball, stays ahead of the sticks and creates chunk plays. Managers in shallow leagues should compare Seattle with healthier defenses in lower-scoring matchups before locking lineups.
In IDP leagues, Nwosu and Lawrence are wait-and-see options rather than automatic starts. Their late additions to the report create re-injury and reduced-snap risk even if active. Hall is the preferred contingency play because he already has two sacks and sits directly behind Lawrence on the depth chart.
What to monitor before kickoff
The decisive update will be Seattle’s inactive list, released roughly 90 minutes before kickoff. Check whether Nwosu and Lawrence are active, then watch for any report of a snap limit during pregame warmups. Emmanwori’s status also matters because losing a starting safety at the same time as one or both edge defenders would test Seattle’s ability to prevent explosive passes.
For now, fantasy managers should keep Chiefs starters in lineups, avoid counting on either questionable Seahawks edge defender in IDP formats, and prepare Hall as the most direct waiver pivot.
