TreVeyon Henderson Misses Practice With Illness: Week 8 Fantasy Impact
TreVeyon Henderson missed New England’s Thursday practice because of an illness, adding late-week uncertainty to a backfield that was already trending toward a three-player rotation. The Patriots did not list Henderson on Wednesday, so the Thursday absence is a new development rather than a continuation of a known injury.
There is no official game designation yet. New England’s final practice report on Friday should establish whether Henderson is on track to play Sunday at Miami or whether fantasy managers need to pivot toward Rhamondre Stevenson and Corey Kiner.
What the Patriots confirmed
The Patriots’ official Week 8 injury report lists Henderson as a Thursday non-participant with an illness. He was not listed Wednesday. A.J. Brown also missed Thursday with ankle and knee issues, while Drake Maye remained a full participant with a right shoulder listing.
Henderson has played six games this season and has 52 carries for 203 yards and one touchdown, an average of 3.9 yards per attempt. He has added five catches for 45 yards. Those totals place him second among Patriots running backs in rushing volume, behind Stevenson’s 77 carries for 285 yards and two touchdowns.
Why Corey Kiner now matters
Kiner’s recent usage makes Henderson’s Friday status more important than a routine illness listing might otherwise be. New England’s official stats credit Kiner with 35 carries for 151 yards, a 4.3-yard average, plus two catches for 16 yards.
In the Week 7 loss at Chicago, Kiner carried four times for 13 yards while Henderson carried three times for nine yards and caught two passes for 14 yards. Patriots.com noted that Kiner played six offensive snaps and earned more rushing attempts than Henderson. That does not make Kiner the new No. 2 back, but it shows the coaching staff is willing to use him.
Week 8 fantasy football impact
Henderson should be treated as a bench option until Friday’s update. Even if he returns to full practice, his recent workload and Kiner’s emergence leave him with a fragile floor. He is a deeper-league flex only if active, and managers should not assume a return to his 2025 workload.
Stevenson remains the safest Patriots running back in standard and PPR formats. He leads the group in carries and has 20 receptions for 204 yards and one receiving touchdown. If Henderson is inactive, Stevenson gains the clearest path to extra touches, while Kiner becomes a defensible bench stash and emergency flex in deeper leagues.
If Henderson is active but limited, Kiner could still handle some early-down work. That would make all three backs harder to trust outside Stevenson, especially because Henderson and Kiner have combined for only seven receptions this season.
The Miami matchup
The matchup is playable but not so strong that fantasy managers should ignore the workload risk. New England’s official game preview lists the Patriots at 122.0 rushing yards per game, 11th in the league, while Miami is allowing 110.2 rushing yards per game, 16th. The Patriots are 4-3 and visit the 1-5 Dolphins on Sunday at 4:25 p.m. ET.
A healthy Henderson would still need enough touches to turn that matchup into fantasy value. His season high was 16 carries for 76 yards and a touchdown in Week 2. Over his last three games, however, he has totaled 14 carries for 62 yards.
What fantasy managers should do now
Keep Henderson on the bench while monitoring Friday’s practice report. Do not drop him in leagues with normal bench depth, but avoid locking him into a flex spot before his status is clearer.
Stevenson remains a startable RB2 or flex. Kiner is the priority contingency stash for managers who have room, particularly in deeper formats. If Henderson misses Friday or receives a questionable designation, Kiner’s appeal rises; if Henderson practices fully and has no designation, Kiner goes back to a speculative bench role.
Strongest counterargument
Illness absences can clear quickly, and Henderson remains second on the Patriots’ unofficial depth chart. A full Friday practice with no game designation would make Thursday’s absence less predictive and could restore him as a deeper league flex.
Next checkpoint
The next meaningful update is New England’s Friday injury report. A full practice would reduce concern. Another absence would put Henderson’s Sunday availability in real doubt and make Kiner a more actionable Week 8 pickup.

Fantasy scoring assumptions: PPR awards one point per reception, half PPR awards 0.5 points, and standard scoring awards no reception points. Football Nation opinion: Henderson should remain on fantasy benches until Friday’s participation and designation clarify his availability and expected role. League settings and roster needs should control the final decision.
