A fictional green-and-gold tight end returns to the field after a left-knee check during a night game

Tucker Kraft Returns After Left Knee Scare: Week 7 Fantasy Outlook

Tucker Kraft gave Green Bay Packers fans and fantasy managers a scare Sunday night, but the most important development came before halftime had even faded from view: the tight end returned to the game and finished it.

Kraft left late in the second quarter of Green Bay’s 23-13 win over the Dallas Cowboys after taking contact around his left knee. He walked off under his own power and was back for the Packers’ opening possession of the third quarter. That distinction matters because the ACL tear that ended his 2025 season was in his right knee.

What happened to Tucker Kraft?

The injury occurred after a short reception with 1:45 remaining in the second quarter. Kraft was tackled low, went to the sideline and missed the rest of the half. Green Bay’s official game recap then recorded his return at the start of the third quarter.

His workload after returning was not ceremonial. Kraft converted a fourth down with a 14-yard reception and added catches of six and nine yards later in the game. He finished with five receptions for 37 yards.

That sequence is the best early evidence available. It shows Kraft could re-enter the game, run routes, absorb contact and contribute in meaningful situations. It does not rule out swelling or soreness after the game, and it is not a substitute for an official medical update.

Why the left-versus-right knee detail matters

Kraft underwent surgery after tearing the ACL in his right knee in November 2025. The Packers activated him from the physically unable to perform list on July 31, then managed his return carefully through training camp. Sunday’s contact involved his left knee, according to contemporaneous reports from the game.

That makes this a new issue rather than an obvious recurrence of the repaired ACL. It is still worth tracking because Kraft has only recently worked his way back from a major lower-body injury, but fantasy managers should avoid conflating the two knees or assuming the worst from the sideline visit alone.

Week 7 fantasy football outlook

The practical move is to keep Kraft in lineups for now while preserving flexibility. Green Bay visits the Detroit Lions on Sunday, October 25, at 3:25 p.m. CT. The first meaningful checkpoints will be Wednesday’s practice participation and any injury designation the Packers attach to him during the week.

  • If Kraft practices fully or is merely limited early in the week: Treat him as a startable fantasy tight end. His return Sunday and second-half usage support a normal-to-near-normal role.

  • If he misses consecutive practices: Prepare an alternative before the weekend. Jonnu Smith and Luke Musgrave would become the Green Bay tight ends to monitor for additional routes and targets.

  • If Kraft receives a doubtful or out designation: Move quickly, because the late-afternoon kickoff could limit replacement options after the early games begin.

  • If your league has shallow benches: Do not drop Kraft based only on Sunday’s scare. A player who returned and finished the game should remain rostered until the practice week provides contrary evidence.

Detroit also raises the value of clarity. The divisional matchup is scheduled for the late-afternoon window, so fantasy managers using Kraft should identify a pivot with a compatible kickoff time instead of waiting until Sunday morning without a fallback.

What the Packers will monitor this week

The next update should focus on function rather than speculation: whether Kraft participates in individual and team periods, whether his workload increases as the week progresses and whether Green Bay lists him with a game-status designation on Friday.

The Packers’ postgame materials confirmed that he returned, but they did not announce a diagnosis. That leaves room for routine follow-up testing and treatment after a contact injury. A Monday report of soreness would not automatically mean his Week 7 status is in danger; repeated practice absences would be the more actionable signal.

Bottom line

Kraft’s return to finish Sunday night is reassuring, especially because the contact was to his left knee rather than the right knee repaired after last season’s ACL tear. For fantasy purposes, hold and tentatively start him against Detroit, but check Green Bay’s practice reports before locking the lineup.
