Tyler Allgeier Misses Practice: Cardinals Week 8 Backfield Plan

Factual cutoff: October 29, 2026 at 7:15 AM CDT. Practice participation and game status can change after this check.

Arizona Cardinals running back Tyler Allgeier missed Wednesday’s practice with a toe injury, adding a new layer of uncertainty to a Week 8 backfield that is only beginning to get Jeremiyah Love back from an ankle injury. Neither player has a game designation yet, so the useful fantasy question is not who has been ruled out—it is how managers should prepare for each possible Friday outcome.

What the Cardinals reported

Arizona’s official Wednesday report listed Allgeier as a nonparticipant because of a toe injury. Love, who missed the previous two games with an ankle injury, returned on a limited basis. The Cardinals play at Dallas on Sunday, so Thursday participation and Friday’s final designation remain the controlling checkpoints.

The distinction matters: a Wednesday DNP is not the same as an out designation, and a limited return does not guarantee that Love will handle a normal workload. Fantasy managers should keep both players in conditional plans until Arizona publishes its final report.

Current Cardinals backfield depth chart

The Cardinals’ official depth chart lists Allgeier first, Love second, Bam Knight third and Evan Hull fourth. That order establishes the starting point, but injury availability can change the game-day rotation.

If Allgeier practices Thursday or Friday, he can remain the lead early-down option. If Allgeier sits and Love is cleared without a major limitation, Love has the strongest path to the largest workload. If both are unavailable or restricted, Knight becomes the most direct rushing contingency while Hull supplies additional depth.

Tyler Allgeier’s 2026 production

Through seven games, Allgeier has 61 carries for 176 yards and one rushing touchdown, plus 16 receptions for 84 yards. His 2.9 yards per carry show that the role has produced more volume than efficiency, but the 16 catches give him some protection in PPR formats.

His recent usage is more informative than the season average. Allgeier handled 18 carries for 38 yards in Week 6 while Love was out, then recorded eight carries for 19 yards and three catches for 30 yards against Denver in Week 7. That 11-touch outing shows the type of combined rushing-and-receiving workload he can hold even when the ground efficiency is modest.

What Love and Knight change

Love still leads Arizona with 245 rushing yards on 67 carries and has scored once on the ground and once as a receiver. His limited Wednesday return is encouraging, but two missed games create legitimate workload uncertainty even if he is active.

Knight has been the most efficient runner in the current group, producing 160 yards on 25 carries, a 6.4-yard average. That sample is too small to guarantee a featured role, but it makes Knight the highest-priority contingency if Arizona is missing one or both of its top two backs.

Week 8 fantasy football plan

Scoring assumptions: the fantasy discussion uses half PPR scoring with one point per ten rushing or receiving yards, half a point per reception, and six points per rushing or receiving touchdown. Dallas D/ST analysis assumes one point per sack and two points per takeaway.

Tyler Allgeier: Hold him through the final injury report. If he returns to a full practice and avoids a designation, he projects as a volume-dependent flex rather than a ceiling play. If he remains limited or questionable, managers should prepare a Sunday alternative.

Jeremiyah Love: Treat Love as a high-upside but volatile option. A full practice would materially improve his outlook; another limited session would leave open the possibility of a split workload or reduced snap count.

Bam Knight: Knight is the preferred speculative addition for managers directly affected by this backfield. His value rises sharply if Allgeier is out and remains useful if Love is active but restricted.

Evan Hull: Hull is a deeper-league contingency. Arizona promoted him while Love was sidelined, but the official depth chart still places him fourth. He should not be projected for a major role unless the final report removes multiple backs from the rotation.

Dallas D/ST: Multiple Arizona backfield injuries would strengthen Dallas’ floor by reducing the Cardinals’ offensive flexibility. A healthy Love return would restore more speed and receiving potential, while an Allgeier absence would remove Arizona’s current first-team back from the depth chart.

Strongest counterargument

The strongest counterargument is that this is only Wednesday practice evidence. Allgeier could return quickly, Love could be cleared for a normal role, and Arizona could preserve the listed depth chart without giving any contingency back a large enough workload for reliable fantasy value.

What to watch Thursday and Friday

The most important signal is Allgeier’s participation trend: a return to limited work would be progress, while another DNP would increase the risk of a questionable or out designation. For Love, managers should look for an upgrade from limited to full and any team comment about workload. Friday’s final game status—not Wednesday’s practice alone—should drive lineup decisions.

Bottom line

Allgeier’s toe injury turns Arizona’s Week 8 backfield into a conditional fantasy situation. Allgeier remains the listed starter, Love has the highest upside if fully cleared, and Knight is the most practical contingency. Hold all three through the final report, but do not assume a normal workload for either Allgeier or Love until the Cardinals provide it.
