Vikings 23, Saints 13: Minnesota's Defense Keeps the Perfect Start Alive

Minnesota remained unbeaten with a 23 to 13 road victory over New Orleans on October 11. The Vikings improved to 5 and 0 despite mistakes near the goal line, leaning on a defense that allowed only 142 total yards.

New Orleans could not sustain offense

Tyler Shough completed 16 of 25 passes for just 96 yards, with two interceptions and no touchdown passes. Kendre Miller's second quarter rushing touchdown gave the Saints an early lead, but their offense generated little afterward. New Orleans fell to 1 and 4.

The response that mattered

Jonas Sanker returned a fumble 87 yards for a touchdown, helping the Saints pull level at 13. Minnesota answered with an Aaron Jones touchdown run and a Will Reichard field goal to restore control. The Vikings did not allow the costly turnover to define the finish.

Key performances

Kyler Murray completed 24 of 30 passes for 229 yards and a touchdown. Jones rushed for 113 yards and a score. Justin Jefferson caught six passes for 79 yards and a touchdown, while Byron Murphy Jr. intercepted two passes.

Football Nation takeaway

The result shows why a strong defense can protect an offense through mistakes, but Minnesota still has to clean up possessions near the end zone. Fantasy managers should separate New Orleans' defensive touchdown from its offensive performance. The Saints' passing production offered very little support for receivers beyond modest volume. Minnesota enters its Week 6 bye, so managers need replacements for its regular starters.
