Archived Week 3 lineup analysis from September 25 to 28, 2026, including the dated updates below. The games covered have been played. These decisions document the original Week 3 information cutoff; current Week 4 choices belong to the current injury and lineup reports.

[Sept. 28 QB update] Fox Sports and ESPN report that Case Keenum will start for Chicago on Monday night, with Tyson Bagent active as the No. 2 quarterback after clearing the concussion protocol. Treat Keenum as an emergency-only Superflex or two-quarterback option, keep Bagent on fantasy benches, and downgrade Bears pass catchers because of the lower passing floor and greater sack and turnover volatility against Philadelphia. The team's official preview had not yet announced the starter, so the next checkpoint is Chicago's inactive list and any pregame announcement.

Sunday update: Williams’ reported timeline extends beyond Week 3

Caleb Williams reportedly has a Grade 2 right hamstring strain that doctors consider a three-to-four-week injury. NBC Sports’ report provides the new medical frame. Keep Williams out of Week 3 lineups and prepare a multiweek replacement; Chicago still calls him week-to-week and has not set a return date.

Saquon Barkley’s full Friday practice and lack of a final game designation remove one major Monday-night uncertainty. Dallas Goedert and Marquise Brown are out, while DeVonta Smith, Tank Bigsby and Will Shipley carry no game designation. Tyson Bagent cleared concussion protocol Sunday and no longer has an injury designation, but the Bears have not named Bagent or Case Keenum the starter against Philadelphia. Do not sacrifice a playable healthy starter for an optimistic Monday headline after most alternatives have locked.

This is a lineup-lock update, not a repeat of Wednesday’s post-waiver market pulse. For the complete list of tracked designations, keep Football Nation’s Week 3 injury report open through the weekend.

The six Friday calls

  • Bench Puka Nacua unless the Rams produce a material Friday upgrade; Davante Adams remains a must-start.

  • Treat Jayden Daniels as unavailable until he practices; Marcus Mariota is a superflex fallback, not a standard-league priority.

  • Move away from Chicago’s quarterbacks in one-QB leagues and protect every Monday skill-position starter with a late pivot.

  • Start J.K. Dobbins as an RB2 after consecutive full practices; Jonah Coleman is on injured reserve with a reported Week 7 target.

  • Start Justin Jefferson with Kyler Murray cleared; Aaron Jones practiced fully Friday and has no designation, but remains a volume flex rather than an automatic RB1.

  • Weather is not forcing a bench decision yet; monitor wind in Landover and heat in Tampa before final locks.

1. Puka Nacua: plan to sit, then require proof

Confirmed fact: the Rams’ official report listed Nacua as a nonparticipant Wednesday and Thursday because of a hip injury. Sean McVay told ESPN that the issue is not viewed as a long-term threat, but the team is being cautious. Nacua missed Week 2 after opening the season with five catches for 74 yards on nine targets.

Football Nation call: make Davante Adams an unconditional start and put Nacua on the bench unless he logs meaningful Friday work and enters Sunday without a serious workload concern. Jordan Whittington improved from no practice to limited Thursday, so even the replacement tree is not clean enough to chase blindly. The strongest case against sitting Nacua is his elite target-earning ability; he can beat a difficult matchup on limited volume. The fact that changes this call is a full practice followed by no limiting game designation.

2. Jayden Daniels: prepare for Marcus Mariota

Confirmed fact: Washington’s official injury report lists Daniels as a Wednesday and Thursday nonparticipant with a left elbow injury. Tight end Chig Okonkwo also missed both practices, while running back Kaytron Allen improved from limited to full.

Football Nation call: bench Daniels in one-quarterback leagues unless he returns to a full practice and receives clear medical approval. Mariota is usable in superflex because rushing can preserve a floor, but he is not a preferred single-quarterback streamer against Seattle. Downgrade Washington pass catchers one tier and give the Seahawks defense a modest bump. The counterargument is that Daniels still has time to practice Friday; a full session with no restriction would restore him as a start.

3. Bears-Eagles: do not enter Monday without a pivot

Bagent is now off the injury report; Chicago’s choice between him and Case Keenum remains open. Chicago has not named Bagent or Case Keenum as Monday’s starter. Philadelphia ruled out Goedert, Brown and Fred Johnson and listed Greenard questionable. Barkley, Smith, Bigsby and Shipley have no game designation.

Football Nation call: remove Williams from Week 3 lineups and use a healthy Sunday quarterback in one-QB formats. Keep Barkley and Smith in lineups at their normal levels. Goedert and Brown are ruled out and must be replaced now; do not wait until Monday. The Bears have cleared Bagent medically but have not named Monday’s starter.

4. Denver’s backfield: Dobbins up, Coleman to IR

Confirmed fact: Denver placed Jonah Coleman on injured reserve with a reported high-ankle sprain. NFL.com relayed an expected Week 7 return, while J.K. Dobbins and RJ Harvey carry no Week 3 game designation. The official Broncos injury report and Football Nation’s Rams–Broncos preview now agree on the settled backfield.

Football Nation call: start Dobbins as an RB2, keep Harvey as a bench stash or emergency flex, and move Coleman to an IR slot where eligible. This is the decisive correction to the midweek waiver reaction: Coleman’s Week 2 finish created excitement, but injured reserve now controls the multiweek call. Committee volatility remains the counterargument, yet the healthiest established runner gets priority with Coleman unavailable.

5. Minnesota-Tampa Bay: Jefferson stays locked, Jones becomes a flex

Confirmed fact: Kyler Murray has cleared the concussion protocol and is expected to return as Minnesota’s starter, stabilizing Justin Jefferson’s projection. Aaron Jones progressed from DNP Wednesday to limited Thursday and full Friday, and Minnesota gave him no game designation. The official Vikings report settles his availability; the Week 3 injury tracker retains the late inactive-list checkpoint.

Football Nation call: start Jefferson everywhere, use Murray as a high-upside QB2, and treat Jones as a flex rather than an automatic top-tier running back. Jones still owns the strongest counterargument: workload can beat efficiency in fantasy. If Minnesota confirms a larger receiving role or if the Buccaneers lose key front-seven personnel, his floor rises. Current Tampa forecasts call for a hot, mostly sunny afternoon, so heat management matters more than rain.

6. Weather and streamer checkpoints

East Rutherford is now the most consequential weather checkpoint. The National Weather Service has a Coastal Flood Warning in effect for Eastern Bergen County through 6 p.m. Eastern Sunday, and the current forecast calls for rain around the Titans–Giants kickoff. CBS Sports separately reported gusts could reach 41 mph. Football Nation call: do not bench every Giant or Titan on forecast alone, but downgrade kickers and fringe deep-passing plays if Sunday morning reports still show sustained high wind. Recheck the stadium-level forecast and pregame warmups before locking either passing game. Landover also carries rain windows, while Denver projects dry and warm and Chicago clear. Rain by itself is not a sit; wind is the controlling variable.

The most useful stream is therefore role-based, not forecast-based: Mariota belongs only in superflex; a healthy Sunday quarterback should replace Williams in one-QB leagues; and Harvey is an emergency flex or bench option with Coleman on injured reserve. Managers chasing a wide-receiver pivot for Nacua should choose a player whose game begins before Sunday night only if that player already projects close to Nacua’s realistic limited ceiling.

Platform checks and what was actually used

Yahoo Fantasy, ESPN’s Week 3 rankings page, and CBS Sports were checked separately on September 25, 2026 at 5:09 AM Central. Yahoo’s public fantasy index surfaced current Week 3 lineup coverage but not a reliable public roster-rate table, so no Yahoo percentage was copied. ESPN’s current rankings page was available but did not expose its numeric list without scripting, so no hidden rank was inferred. CBS’s public Week 3 story was used only as secondary context for Aaron Jones. No platform metric was transferred into another platform’s column.

Football Nation conclusion

Lock Adams, Dobbins, Jefferson, Barkley and Smith into Week 3 lineups. Treat Nacua, Daniels, Williams, Goedert and Brown as unavailable. Mariota is a superflex safety valve, Jones is a cleared volume flex, and Bagent is the remaining Monday quarterback uncertainty. Coleman is on injured reserve with a reported Week 7 target; Barkley and Smith no longer require injury pivots.
