Updated September 2, 2026. Reserve list moves are the firm part of the Week 1 injury picture. Zach Charbonnet, Micah Parsons, Brian Branch, Kerby Joseph, Ikem Ekwonu and Taylor Moton are unavailable for the opening four games, while Tank Dell is on injured reserve with a return designation. Zay Flowers, George Kittle and Ashton Jeanty remain monitoring cases without official Week 1 game designations. Football Nation separates those confirmed transactions from lineup analysis below.
Official new week practice designations are not available yet. Teams will issue them during game week, and Football Nation will not turn a training camp absence, an unofficial depth chart note or a reporter’s projection into an official questionable, doubtful or out designation.

Running backs
Seattle made the clearest backfield decision of the week by keeping Charbonnet on reserve PUP. He cannot play during the opening four games. First round rookie Jadarian Price is now positioned to lead the rushing work, with George Holani suited for receiving downs and pass protection. Price belongs in starting fantasy lineups unless Seattle announces a surprising committee. Charbonnet is a patient injured reserve stash, not a September starter.
Las Vegas kept Ashton Jeanty on the initial 53 man roster. Team officials said he is progressing after the ankle injury but did not provide a return date. Mike Washington Jr. is the direct contingency if Jeanty cannot handle a normal Week 1 workload. Draft decisions should wait for the Raiders' first official practice report rather than an unofficial timetable.
New Orleans did not place Alvin Kamara on injured reserve, preserving the possibility of an earlier return. The full Football Nation breakdown explains why Kamara should still be drafted cautiously after the reported MCL sprain. Travis Etienne Jr. is the immediate fantasy play while Kamara rebuilds his workload.
Washington’s backfield also needs monitoring. Jacory Croskey Merritt’s lower body update and fantasy outlook remains the best guide to that competition until the Commanders publish their first practice participation levels.
Wide receivers and tight ends
Baltimore identified Zay Flowers' injury as a quad contusion and called him day to day. The Ravens have not issued an official Week 1 game designation. Rashod Bateman and Tylan Wallace are contingency options only if Flowers is limited when game week practices begin.
San Francisco activated George Kittle from the active PUP list on August 23. He returned in full pads for individual work but did not participate in team drills. The 49ers have not confirmed his Week 1 availability or Australia travel status, so Jake Tonges remains the practical contingency until Kittle completes team work.
Houston placed Tank Dell on injured reserve with a designation to return, which removes him from the opening month. Kayshon Boutte and Jaylin Noel are the clearest candidates for additional work opposite Nico Collins. Dell is worth an injured reserve stash in deep formats, but managers should not count on a full workload immediately when he becomes eligible.
Green Bay expects Tucker Kraft to be ready for the opener after his knee recovery. The Jonnu Smith signing and Tucker Kraft fantasy impact explains why Kraft remains the preferred receiving tight end while Luke Musgrave starts the year on reserve PUP.
Tennessee’s receiver room has a separate monitoring case after a hard practice hit. The Wan’Dale Robinson injury update explains what the team has confirmed and why practice participation remains the proper checkpoint.
Offensive line
Carolina enters the season with both starting tackles unavailable for at least four games. Ekwonu is on reserve PUP because of his knee, while Moton is on reserve NFI because of illness. That is a major pass protection and run blocking concern for the Panthers, and it lowers the early efficiency projection for the entire offense. The first depth chart and first team practice reps will show who takes each edge.
Houston tackle Braden Smith was carted off practice with a foot injury but was not placed on injured reserve at cutdown. That keeps a Week 1 return possible without guaranteeing it. The active swing tackle is the likely replacement until Houston names a starter. Carolina and Houston fantasy players need a slight downgrade if their replacement lines struggle in the opening practices.
Dallas linebacker Marist Liufau is already on injured reserve with a return designation after a broken forearm. Read the Cowboys’ confirmed injury and replacement impact for the defensive communication changes that may follow.
Defense

Green Bay will open without Parsons, who remains on reserve PUP while recovering from a knee injury. He must miss at least four games. Rashan Gary and the active edge rotation will carry the pass rush. The loss matters for the Packers defense in fantasy because sack and turnover ceilings are tied to pressure, though Green Bay remains playable in favorable matchups.
Josh Jacobs is unavailable for a different reason, not an injury designation. The Commissioner’s Exempt List fantasy explanation separates his legal and roster status from Green Bay’s medical absences.
Detroit will also play the opening month without its starting safety pair. Branch is recovering from an Achilles injury and Joseph from a knee issue. Both are on reserve PUP. Detroit’s active safety and nickel rotation must replace their range, disguise and turnover production. Week 5 is the first eligibility point, but the Lions’ following bye could affect the practical return date.
The broader lesson for fantasy defense managers is to separate availability certainty from Week 1 guesswork. Reserve PUP and reserve NFI are confirmed absences. A player merely missing an August practice is not officially questionable. That distinction prevents overreaction and keeps lineup decisions tied to real information.
The Jets’ Chip Trayanum situation is another example of why medical caution matters. Football Nation’s confirmed neck injury update reports only what the team established and leaves the return decision to the medical process.
Actionable fantasy recommendations
Start Jadarian Price as Seattle’s lead back unless the Seahawks announce an unexpected workload split.
Stash Zach Charbonnet only in leagues with an injured reserve slot or deep benches.
Keep Zay Flowers and Breece Hall in normal starting tiers if they reach full practice.
Draft Ashton Jeanty for season long upside, but pair him with a healthy September option.
Roster a second playable tight end behind George Kittle until he completes the practice and travel checkpoints.
Treat Tank Dell as an injured reserve stash, not a Week 5 lock for a full snap share.
Lower the early efficiency ceiling for Carolina skill players while both starting tackles are unavailable.
Football Nation conclusion
The most important Week 1 injury move is separating confirmed reserve list absences from monitoring cases. Charbonnet, Parsons, Branch, Joseph, Ekwonu, Moton and Dell have firm roster consequences. Flowers, Kittle and Jeanty still require game week practice evidence. Build contingencies now, then make final lineup decisions from official team reports.
