Updated September 14, 2026, at 8:27 a.m. Central. m. Central. FINAL ARCHIVE: San Francisco defeated Los Angeles 27 to 7 at the Melbourne Cricket Ground. The prop card is closed and graded below. Nothing on this page remains an actionable recommendation.

The first NFL regular season game in Australia ended with a decisive San Francisco win in front of 100,021 fans. Brock Purdy completed 25 of 34 passes for 205 yards, three touchdowns and one interception. Matthew Stafford finished 15 of 25 for 155 yards with no passing touchdowns and one interception before Stetson Bennett appeared late. San Francisco produced 379 total yards, including 174 on the ground, while Los Angeles finished with 290.

Final prop card

Christian McCaffrey over 4.5 receptions: HIT. McCaffrey caught five passes for 20 yards on five targets. It took every reception to clear the number, which is a useful reminder that even a strong role can produce a narrow margin.

Brock Purdy under 244.5 passing yards: HIT. Purdy finished at 205, clearing the under by 39. The 49ers did not need passing volume once their defense and rushing attack took control.

Brock Purdy under 36.5 yards for his longest completion: MISS. Purdy connected with Demarcus Robinson for a 39 yard touchdown late in the second quarter. One explosive play was enough to beat a sound game script read.

Kyren Williams over 55.5 rushing yards: MISS. Williams carried 11 times for 41 yards and scored the first NFL touchdown in Australia. Blake Corum logged 10 carries for 54 yards, confirming that the Rams were willing to distribute early down work more evenly than this target required.

The final record was 2 and 2. The best bet, McCaffrey over 4.5 receptions, won by the minimum possible margin.

How the game script decided the card

The central read on Purdy's passing volume held. San Francisco stayed balanced, with McCaffrey rushing 10 times for 68 yards and Kaelon Black adding 65 on 14 attempts. Purdy could stay efficient without threatening 245 passing yards. His three scores went to Robinson, Mike Evans and Deebo Samuel, but the offense did not depend on a high attempt total.

The longest completion under failed for a different reason. Robinson's 39 yard touchdown came on a post route after the quarterbacks traded interceptions. Longest completion markets are especially fragile because one coverage error or perfectly placed throw can erase three quarters of otherwise correct analysis.

Williams' rushing over lost on both volume and efficiency. He averaged 3.7 yards across 11 carries while Corum took nearly the same workload. Los Angeles fell behind and failed on a goal line fourth down in the third quarter, further reducing the runway for a second half rushing recovery.

Injuries and accountability

San Francisco defensive lineman De'Zhaun Stribling left with an ankle injury. Early reporting indicated his Achilles was intact, but the severity still required follow up. Rams edge rusher Myles Garrett recorded no tackles and no quarterback hits, then acknowledged that his knee was not fully healthy. Those developments belong in the Week 2 research file, not as excuses for this card.

What carries forward

The strongest process win was separating passing volume from passing efficiency. Purdy played well and threw three touchdowns, yet his yardage under still cashed because the 49ers controlled the game in several ways. The main process loss was underestimating Corum's share of the Rams backfield. Future Williams rushing targets need a firmer workload discount until the split becomes clearer.

How Football Nation grades archived prop cards

An archive earns its value by showing what was actually published before kickoff and grading only recommendations that remained active. Football Nation keeps the original threshold, final player result and outcome together so readers can audit the card without hindsight. Withdrawn ideas and watch-list notes stay outside the win-loss record, while every final statistic is checked after the game.

The lesson is not to chase a finished score. It is to compare the pregame role assumption with what happened: route participation, carries, targets, game script and injury news. That process helps explain whether an edge was sound, merely lucky or defeated by new information. Use the Football Nation matchup archive for broader team context, then treat this page as a closed historical record rather than a current betting recommendation.
