Official inactive list update

Factual cutoff: October 29, 2026 at 5:56 PM CDT. Bobby Brown III is inactive against Green Bay after being listed questionable with a hand injury. The official inactive list replaces the earlier game-time uncertainty. Source: https://www.packers.com/news/packers-panthers-week-8-inactives-oct-29-2026

Football consequence: Carolina loses an interior defender against a Packers rushing attack led by Josh Jacobs. Fantasy consequence: Jacobs remains an RB2 with RB1 upside, and Brown's absence adds support to an already favorable matchup without guaranteeing Green Bay rushing efficiency. Strongest counterargument: one inactive defensive tackle does not erase Carolina's full front or Green Bay's uneven rushing baseline. Next checkpoint: Jacobs' workload and Carolina's interior rotation on the opening series.

Updated Oct. 29, 2026, at 12:04 p.m. CT. Carolina Panthers starting defensive lineman Bobby Brown III is questionable for Thursday night against the Green Bay Packers because of a hand injury. He did not participate Monday, then was listed as a full participant Tuesday and Wednesday. Because Carolina held walkthroughs, those practice levels were projections.

The status matters most at the point where Carolina is already vulnerable. The Panthers allowed 258 rushing yards on 49 attempts in Sunday’s loss to Tampa Bay, and Green Bay’s own preview identifies Carolina as the NFL’s 32nd-ranked run defense. Josh Jacobs is therefore a strong fantasy start, but Brown’s availability is one piece of the matchup—not the entire case.

Bobby Brown III injury status at a glance

  • Official designation: Questionable with a hand injury.

  • Practice progression: DNP on Monday; projected full participant Tuesday and Wednesday.

  • Role: Listed as a first-team defensive lineman on Carolina’s Week 8 depth chart.

  • 2026 production: Seven tackles and one pass defensed in five games.

  • Kickoff: Panthers at Packers, Thursday at 7:15 p.m. CT.

Why Brown’s status matters to the Panthers’ run defense

Brown’s traditional box-score production is modest—seven tackles and no sacks through five games—but that is not a complete measure of a 330-pound interior defender’s value. His assignment frequently begins with occupying blockers and protecting the linebackers behind him. Carolina lists TeRah Edwards directly behind Brown on the depth chart, so an inactive designation would remove a starter and press the rotation on a short week.

The matchup already gives Green Bay an obvious test point. Tampa Bay ran 49 times for 258 yards, averaging 5.3 yards per carry. Carolina also surrendered 291 rushing yards to Chicago in Week 1. Panthers coaches and players have acknowledged that opponents will keep testing the same weakness until the defense proves it has corrected the fits, tackling and edge-setting problems.

Josh Jacobs fantasy football outlook

Jacobs returned last week after missing the first six games and handled 11 carries for 36 yards. He also caught five passes for 55 yards and a touchdown. That receiving work matters: even if Green Bay’s blocking does not suddenly solve every problem, Jacobs has more than one path to fantasy points.

The matchup raises his ceiling. Green Bay should be able to stay patient with the run if the game remains competitive, and Carolina’s recent tape invites repeated attempts between the tackles and off the edges. Brown being inactive would further reduce the Panthers’ interior depth, but Jacobs does not need that break to qualify as a strong start.

Fantasy recommendation: Start Jacobs, but price in the risk

  • Season-long leagues: Start Jacobs as an RB2 with RB1 upside.

  • PPR formats: His five catches in the 2026 debut give him a useful floor beyond rushing efficiency.

  • Daily fantasy: The matchup is attractive, but Jacobs’ workload is not yet guaranteed to return immediately to peak levels.

  • Props: Treat rushing volume as more stable than a long-run breakout; Green Bay has not established a dependable ground-game baseline.

There is an important counterargument. Green Bay entered this week with the league’s lowest-ranked rushing offense, and the Packers managed only 57 rushing yards two games ago against another defense that entered at the bottom of the league. Jacobs’ presence improves the backfield, but one game and one favorable opponent do not erase the offense’s broader trend.

What if Bobby Brown III is active?

Two projected full practices are a favorable availability signal. If Brown is active, fantasy managers should not automatically downgrade Jacobs. Carolina’s run defense problems have involved the entire front and its fits, not only one player. There is also no official report of a snap restriction, so assuming one would be speculation.

The hand injury is still relevant for an interior lineman who must engage and shed blocks, but the final inactive list—not guesswork about pain or effectiveness—should drive last-minute decisions.

IDP and Packers D/ST impact

Brown is not a recommended start in ordinary IDP formats. He has one solo tackle, six assisted tackles and no sacks in five games, which makes him a deep defensive-tackle-league option rather than a weekly play. His absence would be more important to Carolina’s team defense than to individual fantasy lineups.

For the other side of the game, Football Nation is also tracking Brenton Cox Jr.’s questionable status and the Packers D/ST impact.

When will Brown’s final status be known?

The official inactive list is normally released about 90 minutes before kickoff, which points to roughly 5:45 p.m. CT for a 7:15 p.m. game. Fantasy managers should check the list before setting lineups, especially in formats that lock individual players at kickoff.

Bottom line

Brown is trending in the right direction after two projected full practices, but he remains officially questionable. Jacobs is a strong start even if Brown plays because Carolina has allowed the league’s worst rushing average and just surrendered 258 yards on the ground. If Brown is inactive, that becomes an additional boost to an already favorable matchup—not the only reason for the recommendation.
