Buffalo Bills Training Camp Report: Josh Allen Builds a New Connection

Training camp snapshot

Buffalo’s camp is centered on giving Josh Allen a reliable new answer in the passing game. DJ Moore brings proven separation and run after catch ability, but the important work now is building trust on option routes, broken plays and the timing throws that decide third downs.

The connection does not need to be perfect in early August. It does need to become predictable for Allen. Buffalo wants Moore to understand when the quarterback will extend a play and where open space is likely to appear when the original structure breaks down.

Defensively, C.J. Gardner Johnson’s return to full practice after a calf issue is a meaningful development. His ability to move between safety, nickel and other coverage responsibilities gives the Bills more ways to disguise pressure and protect younger defensive backs.

Buffalo’s next step is stacking healthy practices. If Allen and Moore continue progressing while Gardner Johnson remains available, two of the team’s biggest summer questions will begin moving toward answers before the preseason intensifies.

What to watch next

The next checkpoint is consistency. Buffalo is developing Josh Allen’s timing with DJ Moore while C.J. Gardner Johnson’s return gives the defense more flexibility. Coaches will want that theme to hold up through situational periods and preseason snaps. Depth chart movement should follow players who repeat the details under pressure, communicate cleanly and stay available, not one isolated highlight.
