Chiefs Turn to Joshua Ezeudu at Right Tackle, Diego Pounds Active for NFL Debut
Kansas City’s unbeaten offense entered Sunday night with a new pressure point: the Chiefs turned to veteran Joshua Ezeudu at right tackle against Seattle, while rookie Diego Pounds was active for the first NFL game of his career.
The change became necessary after starting right tackle Jaylon Moore was ruled out with a concussion. Kansas City’s official inactive list confirmed Moore would not dress on October 25, and game-day reporting identified Ezeudu as the expected starter with Josh Simmons also unavailable. Pounds, who had been inactive in each of the first five games, became the reserve tackle option.

What changed on the Chiefs offensive line
Moore did not practice Wednesday, Thursday or Friday while in the concussion protocol, so Kansas City had several days to prepare for a different right-side combination. Ezeudu had already replaced Moore during the Chiefs’ Week 6 victory over the Chargers after Moore left the game.
Ezeudu is making his first start for Kansas City and the 11th start of his NFL career. The Chiefs acquired the 6-foot-4, 310-pound lineman from the New York Giants on August 26 for a 2028 seventh-round pick. His versatility was central to the deal: Kansas City said he worked at both right guard and right tackle during the preseason and allowed no pressures across 74 snaps at those two positions.
That background makes Ezeudu the experienced choice for a difficult road assignment. It also lets Kansas City keep the rest of the line stable rather than moving multiple starters to cover one vacancy.
Diego Pounds reaches an important milestone
Pounds’ activation matters even if he does not immediately take every snap. The 6-foot-6, 335-pound rookie is listed behind Moore at right tackle on the Chiefs’ unofficial depth chart, and Sunday night represents his first chance to contribute in a regular-season game.
Kansas City acquired Pounds from Baltimore on August 30 after he entered the league as an undrafted free agent. The former Ole Miss tackle appeared in 28 college games with 24 starts and surrendered only two sacks during that span, according to the Chiefs. His size and length give Kansas City a developmental option, but an NFL debut against Seattle’s speed is a much sharper test than preseason work.
Why the matchup matters
Seattle’s defensive front can stress this adjustment in several ways. Edge defenders Uchenna Nwosu and DeMarcus Lawrence were active, and safety Nick Emmanwori’s availability gives the Seahawks another movable pressure piece. Kansas City can respond with quick throws, tight-end chips, running-back help and play-action designed to slow the rush.
The most revealing detail will be how often the Chiefs leave Ezeudu isolated. Frequent help from a tight end or back would protect the edge but could also reduce the number of receivers released immediately into routes. If Kansas City trusts Ezeudu one-on-one, the passing game can keep its normal spacing.
The run game also has a role in managing the matchup. Kansas City can run behind the right side, use motion to widen the edge and force Seattle to defend laterally. A credible rushing threat prevents the Seahawks from treating every long-yardage snap as a pure pass-rush opportunity.
Fantasy football impact
Patrick Mahomes and Travis Kelce remain must-start fantasy options. One replacement tackle is not a reason to bench either player, especially because Kansas City has multiple schematic answers and Mahomes can create outside structure. The change does add a small amount of protection risk, making sacks, hurried throws and shorter-developing concepts more relevant than usual.
Xavier Worthy and the other Chiefs pass catchers could see more quick-game work if Seattle consistently threatens the right edge. Targets close to the line of scrimmage can preserve volume even if deeper routes take longer to develop. Kenneth Walker’s rushing workload also remains valuable because successful early-down runs would help Kansas City avoid obvious passing situations.
For fantasy managers considering the Seahawks defense, the offensive-line change raises the unit’s sack upside but does not make Seattle a safe play. Mahomes’ ability to avoid negative plays and punish pressure keeps the floor volatile. Seattle is better viewed as a tournament or matchup-based option than an automatic start.
What to watch during the game
Watch the first several third downs, not just the opening series. Kansas City may begin with scripted protection help before deciding whether Ezeudu can handle isolated pass sets. Pounds’ snap count will also show whether his active status is strictly emergency depth or the start of a genuine rotation.
The larger takeaway is that Kansas City’s offensive-line depth is being tested on national television. Ezeudu has prior starting experience, Pounds is finally active, and the Chiefs have a clear plan. Whether that plan holds up against Seattle’s pressure packages will shape the ceiling of the entire Kansas City offense.
Editorial controls
Factual cutoff: October 25, 2026 at 8:12 p.m. CDT. The lineup analysis reflects the official Chiefs inactive list, the Chiefs injury report and roster material, and Seattle's official game day availability report available by that time.
Fantasy recommendations use half PPR scoring. The lineup impact is Football Nation analysis, not a guarantee of sacks, targets, touches or fantasy points.
Strongest counterargument: Ezeudu's starting experience, Kansas City's protection flexibility and Patrick Mahomes' movement may make the right tackle change less disruptive than expected. Tight end and running back help can also limit Seattle's clean edge opportunities.
Next checkpoint
After the game, compare Ezeudu's isolated pass sets with snaps that used tight end or running back help, record Pounds' offensive snap count, and verify the official sack and pressure results before making any Week 8 workload claim.
