Christian Darrisaw Returns vs. Colts: Vikings O-Line and Fantasy Impact

Minnesota’s offensive line is getting its starting left tackle back at an important moment. The Vikings’ final Week 7 injury report says Christian Darrisaw will return from concussion protocol for Sunday’s home game against the Indianapolis Colts. He carries no game-status designation.

That is more than a routine clearance. Darrisaw protects the quarterback’s blind side, and Minnesota’s current unofficial depth chart lists him ahead of Ryan Van Demark at left tackle. His return gives the 5-0 Vikings their preferred starter after a Week 6 bye.

What changed for Christian Darrisaw

Darrisaw entered concussion protocol after Minnesota’s Week 4 game against Miami. The Vikings then ruled him out for Week 5 at New Orleans before the bye created another week for recovery. He was a full participant Wednesday and Thursday this week. Friday’s non-participation was listed as concussion plus a non-injury-related rest designation, and he received no game designation.

Minnesota also removed right tackle Brian O’Neill from the final status list after O’Neill went from limited Wednesday to full participation Thursday and Friday. The practical result is a much healthier tackle pairing for the Colts matchup.

Why the return matters for Minnesota’s offense

The Vikings have allowed 15 sacks through five games: nine charged to Kyler Murray’s passing line and six to Carson Wentz’s. Murray has completed 69 of 101 passes for 662 yards, two touchdowns and two interceptions. Wentz has completed 23 of 39 for 276 yards, three touchdowns and no interceptions.

Darrisaw’s return does not erase every protection issue, but it restores Minnesota’s first-choice option at the most valuable line position. That matters against a Colts front that can force hurried decisions even while Indianapolis manages injuries elsewhere on defense.

The timing is especially helpful because the Vikings are also returning tight end T.J. Hockenson from concussion protocol and wide receiver Jordan Addison from a hamstring injury. For the first time in weeks, Minnesota can approach its passing plan with its starting left tackle and its main group of receiving threats available together.

Fantasy football impact

Kyler Murray: Darrisaw’s return is a modest upgrade to Murray’s Week 7 floor because cleaner blind-side protection can preserve longer-developing concepts and reduce drive-killing pressures. Murray remains a matchup-dependent fantasy quarterback rather than an automatic start, but the surrounding conditions are better than they were entering the week.

Justin Jefferson, Jordan Addison and T.J. Hockenson: Better protection helps the entire route tree. Jefferson remains a locked-in starter, Addison returns to flex consideration, and Hockenson moves back into the starting tight-end conversation. The important caveat is that both Addison and Hockenson are returning from injuries, so managers should not assume peak snap volume solely because they have no game designation.

Aaron Jones: Jones has 410 rushing yards on 97 carries, a 4.2-yard average, with two touchdowns. Restoring Darrisaw should help Minnesota keep its preferred run concepts intact, but Jones could still share work if Jordan Mason is activated from injured reserve. Mason is officially questionable and would require a corresponding roster move before playing.

Colts D/ST: Minnesota’s healthier offensive line lowers the appeal of counting on sacks alone. Indianapolis can still create disruptive plays, but fantasy managers should treat the Vikings’ improved protection and returning pass-catchers as meaningful changes from the offense seen before the bye.

What to watch before kickoff

The next official checkpoint is Minnesota’s Saturday roster activity, especially whether Mason is activated. Darrisaw, however, does not need another injury-status update: the Vikings have already cleared his path to play by removing any game designation.

Vikings-Colts kicks off Sunday, October 25, at noon CT at U.S. Bank Stadium. Minnesota enters 5-0; Indianapolis is 2-4.
