Dolphins Claim Christian Haynes: Week 8 Offensive Line and Fantasy Impact

Bottom line

Miami added experience inside without declaring a new starter. The Dolphins claimed guard Christian Haynes off waivers from Seattle on Wednesday, October 28, and waived rookie guard DJ Campbell. Haynes brings 31 regular-season appearances and five starts, but the current depth chart still lists Kadyn Proctor at left guard and Jonah Savaiinaea at right guard. Treat this as a competition and depth move until Miami shows otherwise in practice or on game day.

Fantasy scoring note: This analysis uses common half PPR season long scoring and standard team D/ST scoring. The offensive line claim does not create a direct player projection change in any format. Full PPR slightly favors Miami pass catchers only if protection and target volume improve.

Strongest counterargument: Haynes' starting and postseason experience could make him an immediate upgrade, especially for a line that has allowed 16 sacks. Miami's current depth chart does not yet list him, however, and a midweek waiver claim provides too little practice evidence to project a Week 8 snap share.

What the Dolphins changed

Miami's official roster announcement says Haynes was claimed from Seattle and Campbell was waived. Haynes entered the league as the Seahawks' third-round pick, No. 81 overall, in 2024. He has played 31 regular-season games, started five at right guard, appeared in two postseason games and was part of Seattle's Super Bowl LX championship team.

At Connecticut, Haynes started 35 of 37 games and earned Associated Press All-America honors twice. Campbell, meanwhile, was Miami's sixth-round pick at No. 200 overall in the 2026 draft. In practical terms, the Dolphins exchanged a rookie developmental guard for a 26-year-old lineman with NFL starting and playoff experience.

Where Christian Haynes fits on Miami's offensive line

The Dolphins' current depth chart lists Proctor ahead of Jarrett Kingston at left guard and Savaiinaea ahead of Caedan Wallace at right guard. Haynes was not yet listed when the claim became official. His five NFL starts have come at right guard, making that his clearest initial path, but a waiver claim alone does not mean he will replace Savaiinaea.

The next signals matter more than the transaction label: whether Haynes practices immediately, whether Miami cross-trains him on the left side, where he appears on the updated depth chart and whether he is active against New England. If he dresses, he could begin as the first interior reserve while learning the protection calls. If he earns first-team work, the move becomes more consequential.

Why the addition matters

Miami has produced 1,761 total yards at 5.1 yards per play and 789 rushing yards at 4.6 per carry, according to the team's official statistics. Those are usable rushing-efficiency numbers, but the passing game has absorbed 16 sacks through six games. Adding a guard with live NFL experience gives the Dolphins another option if protection, health or consistency becomes an issue.

Haynes does not solve every problem by himself. Offensive-line play depends on five-man communication, and a midweek arrival has limited installation time. The near-term value is optionality: Miami can evaluate a player with starting experience without committing to an immediate lineup overhaul.

Fantasy football impact

  • Malik Willis: No immediate ranking change. Willis has 1,057 passing yards, four passing touchdowns and four interceptions. Better interior protection would help his pocket floor, but fantasy managers should wait for snap evidence before assigning the transaction a measurable boost.

  • Ollie Gordon II: Still a volume-based starter or flex decision, not a Haynes-driven upgrade. Gordon leads Miami with 339 rushing yards. A stabilized guard rotation could support efficiency, but Haynes must first earn a role.

  • Caleb Douglas, Malik Washington and Greg Dulcich: Neutral for now. More time for Willis can improve route development, yet one waiver claim does not change target projections. Douglas remains the most interesting recent riser after his two-touchdown Week 7.

  • Patriots D/ST: Do not downgrade New England solely because of this move. Miami has allowed 16 sacks, and Haynes may not start in Week 8. The Patriots' fantasy value should still be based on the full matchup, Miami's final injury report and the announced line combination.

  • Christian Haynes: No standard fantasy pickup value. His relevance is indirect through protection, rushing efficiency and lineup stability.

Week 8 checkpoint

Miami hosts New England on Sunday, November 1, at 4:25 p.m. ET (3:25 p.m. CT) at Hard Rock Stadium on CBS, according to the official schedule. Fantasy managers should check three items before locking lineups: Friday practice participation, Miami's updated depth chart and the Sunday inactive list.

If Haynes is active but remains a reserve, keep all Dolphins and Patriots fantasy evaluations unchanged. If he takes first-team right-guard snaps and starts, treat it as a modest protection and run-blocking positive—not a reason by itself to force Willis or Gordon into a lineup.
