Jets at Patriots Week 6 Guide: Maye Faces New York's Pressure Test

8 min read

The New England Patriots have the better Week 6 outlook because Drake Maye has regained his downfield efficiency and the defense has allowed only 18.8 points per game. The New York Jets can still make this a divisional fight if their top four defense creates pressure without surrendering explosive plays and Braelon Allen replaces Breece Hall with another efficient workload. Football Nation's call is Patriots 27, Jets 17.

This guide uses information checked Friday, October 16, 2026 at approximately 6:10 PM Central. Friday injury designations are official. Market numbers are published source snapshots rather than guaranteed executable quotes. Readers should recheck Saturday roster activations, Sunday inactives and late price movement.

Game details

The New York Jets visit the New England Patriots in NFL Week 6 on Sunday, October 18 at Gillette Stadium in Foxborough, Massachusetts. Kickoff is 1:00 PM Eastern, noon Central, on CBS. The NFL schedule lists the game as local CBS coverage, with eligible local mobile viewing through NFL Plus and out of market access through Sunday Ticket where available.

The weather should not materially change the game plan. The Friday forecast called for sunshine, a high near 54 degrees and west wind around 3 to 5 miles per hour. That supports normal passing and kicking assumptions, though the final wind reading remains a Sunday checkpoint.

Records, recent form and rivalry context

New England is 3 and 2 after consecutive wins over Buffalo and Las Vegas. The Patriots scored 45 points against the Raiders in Week 5, their most complete offensive performance of the season. New York is 2 and 3 after ending a three game losing streak with a 17 to 12 win over Cleveland. Allen rushed 24 times for 116 yards and the Jets produced eight sacks, including a late strip sack that sealed the game.

This is the Jets' first AFC East game of the season. They are 2 and 0 against AFC opponents, while New England has a chance to improve to 4 and 2 before a short turnaround. The Patriots lead the all time series 77 to 56 with one tie, have won three straight meetings and 18 of the past 20. New England won the most recent matchup 42 to 10 last December.

Statistical matchup through five games

The Patriots' official statistics show 1,862 offensive yards at 5.7 yards per play. They are 24 of 64 on third down, have rushed for 636 yards at 4.2 per carry and have produced 1,274 net passing yards. Maye has completed 65.6 percent of his passes for 1,228 yards, eight touchdowns and seven interceptions while adding 161 rushing yards. His overall turnover profile remains the primary risk even after seven touchdowns and one interception over the past two wins.

New England's defense has allowed 1,481 yards at 5.0 per play, including 454 rushing yards and 1,113 net passing yards. The unit ranks fifth in yards allowed per game and fourth in points allowed according to the Jets' official preview. New England owns 11 sacks and three interceptions, but its team turnover differential is minus five.

The Jets have generated 1,420 offensive yards at 4.7 per play and converted 24 of 67 third downs. Their 470 rushing yards have come at only 3.6 per carry. Geno Smith has completed 69.4 percent for 1,084 yards, six touchdowns and no interceptions, an efficient profile undercut by 16 sacks. Garrett Wilson leads the offense with 31 receptions, 374 yards and three touchdowns.

New York's defense has allowed 1,465 yards at 4.5 per play, including only 977 net passing yards, and has 17 sacks. The Jets enter the week fourth in total defense and second in yards allowed per play. Their plus three turnover differential is an eight turnover swing from New England's minus five. TeamRankings' current Week 6 comparison was not reliably available during this check, so no TeamRankings only figure is substituted.

How New England wins

The central matchup is Maye against Aaron Glenn's aggressive pressure package. New York blitzed 22 times on 44 Cleveland dropbacks and collected four of its eight sacks on blitzes. Maye can punish that approach by attacking man coverage with his legs and by throwing behind second level pressure. Romeo Doubs, DeMario Douglas, Hunter Henry and Kyle Williams give New England enough spacing options even if A.J. Brown is held out another week.

New England also needs a clean early run plan. Rhamondre Stevenson has 227 yards at 4.0 per carry. TreVeyon Henderson is questionable with an ankle injury, so Corey Kiner may have to absorb more work. The Patriots do not need to force the run into a strong front, but they do need enough balance to keep Maye out of obvious third and long situations.

How New York wins

With Hall ruled out, Allen becomes the offensive hinge. His 116 yards against Cleveland showed he can handle volume, and New England is more vulnerable on the ground than through the air. The Jets should use Allen to stay ahead of the chains, then build play action throws for Wilson and the tight ends. Isaiah Davis is the likely change of pace option.

Smith has not thrown an interception, but New England can still change the game with sacks and field position. Dylan Parham is out, which creates an interior protection question. The Jets need fewer than 35 Smith attempts, at least four yards per rush and steady Wilson involvement. If they trail by multiple scores and allow New England to isolate the replacement protection, the matchup tilts sharply toward the Patriots.

Friday injury report and replacement plans

The Jets ruled out Hall with a quadriceps injury, wide receiver Adonai Mitchell with a finger injury, edge rusher Joseph Ossai with an ankle injury and guard Dylan Parham with a knee injury. Safety Dane Belton, receiver Omar Cooper Jr. and tight end Kenyon Sadiq are questionable after full Friday participation. Linebacker Kiko Mauigoa practiced fully and has no final designation. Head coach Aaron Glenn expects Cooper to be available, which would add a vertical option behind Wilson.

New England ruled out cornerbacks Carlton Davis III with a neck injury and Karon Prunty with a hamstring injury. Brown, Henderson, left tackle Will Campbell, tackle Marcus Bryant, linebacker Christian Elliss, safety Craig Woodson and corner Channing Canada are questionable. Christian Gonzalez is off the report and expected to return. Brown must be activated by Saturday afternoon to play, making that transaction the most important pregame personnel checkpoint.

Gonzalez's return gives New England a stronger answer for Wilson, but the absences of Davis and Prunty reduce secondary depth. If Wilson moves through the formation and the Jets create favorable matchups away from Gonzalez, Smith can still find controlled gains. If Campbell cannot play, New England must protect Maye from David Bailey, who has five sacks, and a defense that just created eight.

Market snapshot and implied score

FanDuel's Friday snapshot listed New England as a 7.5 point home favorite. A published opening snapshot listed a total of 44.5, Patriots moneyline minus 375 and Jets moneyline plus 300. Those figures were checked October 16 at approximately 6:10 PM Central and are not guaranteed executable quotes. The opening spread and total imply roughly New England 26 and New York 18.5.

Football Nation's projection is Patriots 27, Jets 17. New England is the more likely winner, but the spread becomes less attractive above 7 because the Jets' defense and turnover advantage can keep the score compressed. New York becomes more interesting at plus 8 or better. The total would need another review below 42 or above 46, especially if Brown and Henderson are both inactive.

Six player prop evaluations

Drake Maye passing yards, published line 238.5. The over case is New York's blitz creating downfield opportunities and Maye averaging 8.1 yards per attempt. The under case is the Jets allowing only 4.5 yards per play and limiting explosive passes. At 250.5 or higher, the over loses appeal. DraftKings line reported by DraftEdge and checked October 16 at approximately 6:10 PM Central.

Drake Maye rushing yards, published line 26.5. Man coverage and edge pressure can open scramble lanes, and Maye averages 5.4 yards per carry. The counterargument is New England protecting him before a short week. At 34.5 or higher, the price no longer leaves enough margin. DraftKings line reported by DraftEdge and checked October 16 at approximately 6:10 PM Central.

Drake Maye passing touchdowns, published line 1.5. The over case is his seven scoring passes across the past two wins. The under case is New York's top four defense and the possibility that rushing scores finish drives. Over pricing shorter than minus 150 is too expensive for this matchup. BetMGM line reported by DraftEdge and checked October 16 at approximately 6:10 PM Central.

Geno Smith passing yards, published line 223.5. The over case is a likely negative game script and New England's missing cornerback depth. The under case is the Patriots allowing 222.6 net passing yards per game and Smith's 16 sacks. At 215.5 or lower, the under loses most of its cushion. DraftKings model comparison reported by MassLive and checked October 16 at approximately 6:10 PM Central.

Rhamondre Stevenson rushing yards, published line 71.5. Henderson's questionable status creates an over case built on volume. The counterargument is New York's front and the chance that New England uses Kiner to share the load. At 78.5 or higher, the over becomes too dependent on game script. DraftKings comparison reported by MassLive and checked October 16 at approximately 6:10 PM Central.

Garrett Wilson receiving yards, published line 71.5. Wilson owns roughly one third of the Jets' receiving production and just posted 104 yards. Gonzalez's expected return is the strongest case against the over. At 78.5 or higher, the matchup tax is too steep. DraftKings line reported by DraftEdge and checked October 16 at approximately 6:10 PM Central.

Touchdown and red zone context

No current anytime touchdown price from a publicly accessible legal source could be verified during this check, so no price is published here. Allen has the clearest Jets goal line role with Hall out. Wilson remains the primary receiving touchdown candidate. Stevenson has New England's most stable rushing touchdown role, while Doubs and Douglas benefit from Maye's recent downfield efficiency.

Fantasy football guidance

Scoring format: full PPR. Start Maye as a lower end QB1 because his rushing floor and recent touchdown form offset the difficult defense. Stevenson is an RB2, and Henderson should remain on benches unless he is active without a snap limitation. Henry is a starting tight end. Doubs and Douglas are flex options, with Brown treated as a risky flex only if activated and cleared for a normal role.

Allen is a volume based RB2 with Hall out. Wilson remains a WR2 despite the Gonzalez matchup because the Jets need to concentrate targets. Smith is a two quarterback or superflex start, not a preferred one quarterback option. Sadiq is a tight end streamer only if active and fully cleared from the concussion protocol. Cooper is a deep league bench addition rather than a Week 6 starter.

Football Nation prediction

Prediction: Patriots 27, Jets 17. New England has the more explosive quarterback, the stronger recent form and home field. The strongest counterargument is New York's defensive efficiency plus the eight turnover gap between the teams' season differentials. The Jets' upset path requires Allen controlling the tempo, four or more sacks and at least two Maye turnovers. The call changes if Brown, Henderson and Campbell are all inactive and the Jets' questionable skill players are fully cleared.

Game day checklist

Confirm Brown's Saturday activation status. Check Henderson, Campbell, Cooper, Sadiq and Belton among the inactives. Verify whether New England plans a Stevenson and Kiner committee. Recheck the Foxborough wind. Refresh the spread through the key number of seven, the total and every prop price. Watch for any secondary change involving Gonzalez after his return from the shoulder injury.
