Patriots vs Seahawks Start Em Sit Em: Week 1 Fantasy and Player Props

8 min read

Rhamondre Stevenson belongs in more Week 1 lineups. That does not mean Seattle suddenly became an easy matchup. With TreVeyon Henderson ruled out, the Patriots backfield offers the most important late lineup adjustment in the opener. The useful distinction is opportunity versus efficiency: more available work can improve a fantasy start without making every rushing over a good idea. New England’s final injury report supplies the confirmed absence.

Research checked September 9, 2026. New England visits Seattle on Wednesday, September 9, at 7:20 p.m. Central / 8:20 p.m. Eastern, on NBC and Peacock. Official viewing information. Recommendations assume a 12 team league, half PPR scoring, one starting quarterback, four points per passing touchdown and six per rushing or receiving touchdown. These are Football Nation editorial calls, not a claimed consensus ranking.

The lineup card

Football Nation call

What the decision means

JSN

START: WR1

Keep your established lead receiver in the lineup.

A.J. Brown

START: WR2 or better

Trust the player; do not assume an established New England target share yet.

Rhamondre Stevenson

START: RB2

Henderson’s absence lifts the workload case.

Drake Maye

START: QB1, tempered ceiling

Prefer him to Darnold in the same lineup decision.

Jadarian Price

FLEX / lower RB2

Usable opportunity, but an unproven NFL workload.

Hunter Henry

FRINGE START: TE1

Prefer him to speculative secondary receivers or an uncertain TE role.

Sam Darnold

SIT in one QB; START in superflex

His rushing contribution offers less protection.

Romeo Doubs / Cooper Kupp

SIT in shallow formats; deeper flex

Do not confuse a recognizable name with guaranteed volume.

AJ Barner

STREAMER, not a priority start

Touchdown upside does not establish a weekly reception floor.

Seattle D/ST

STARTABLE

Pressure upside can coexist with a usable opposing quarterback.

TreVeyon Henderson

OUT: remove from lineup

A confirmed absence, not a game time guess.

“Sit” means prefer a credible alternative in the stated format, not drop the player. Full PPR makes reception volume more valuable; standard scoring increases dependence on yards and touchdowns. Do not treat a single game fantasy contest like a normal weekly league.

Start Stevenson, but separate volume from an easy matchup

Stevenson’s official 2025 record supports more than a goal line argument: he combined rushing and receiving for 948 yards and nine touchdowns. Those receiving contributions offer a second scoring path when carries are inefficient. Henderson being out is an upgrade to Stevenson’s opportunity, not evidence that he will play every offensive snap.

Seattle allowed just 3.7 yards per carry in 2025, according to its team statistics. Our call is RB2, with a stronger case in formats that reward catches. Prefer Stevenson to an uncertain committee flex. Do not move him above an established elite running back simply because another Patriot is unavailable. Read our full Henderson absence breakdown for the distinction between replacing him this week and changing your season plan.

Start JSN and Brown without inventing coverage guarantees

JSN’s official season record translates to 7.0 receptions and approximately 105.5 receiving yards per game across 17 games. Those are historical averages, not a promise of seven catches tonight. Our preference is to trust that established production rather than bench a primary receiver because one opposing cornerback is excellent.

New England’s current depth chart lists Brown, DeMario Douglas and Doubs in the starting receiver group. Brown is our strongest Patriots receiver start; Doubs remains a more conditional flex. The new combinations create uncertainty about target distribution, so a specific percentage share would be speculation before this offense plays a regular season game.

The Patriots’ Christian Gonzalez extension adds context to the matchup, but a contract announcement does not tell us that Gonzalez will follow JSN on every route. Avoid building a lineup decision on an unverified shadow assignment.

Maye versus Darnold: the rushing difference matters

Maye’s official 2025 record includes 103 rushing attempts. Under our stated scoring, his 450 rushing yards and four rushing touchdowns generated 69 points before any turnovers, about 4.1 per game. That is a calculation from last season, not a Week 1 projection. It explains why a difficult passing matchup does not automatically make him a sit.

Darnold’s much smaller rushing contribution makes him more dependent on passing efficiency and touchdowns. We prefer Maye when choosing between these two. Darnold remains usable in superflex, but we would not replace an established one QB starter with him simply because Seattle is at home. The 2025 passing totals appear in the sourced table above; neither player’s season average is an exact forecast for this game.

Price, the tight ends and the tempting bench names

Jadarian Price is a flex with a path to RB2 production, not a verified workhorse. Seattle’s own Week 1 fantasy guide also frames his opportunity around flex value and potential upside. The important uncertainty is how much work belongs to Price versus the other available backs. A rookie’s depth chart position does not establish his passing down or goal line share.

The final injury report gives Emanuel Wilson no game status designation after full participation, while Tory Horton and Nick Emmanwori are questionable and Ty Okada is out. That keeps Wilson relevant to the workload discussion. It also means Horton should not be described as definitely available or definitely out before the inactive list.

Our tight end preference is Henry over Barner, but neither is a reason to abandon a stronger established starter. Their receiving production is in the table. We regard Kupp and Doubs as deeper flex choices, while Rashid Shaheed, Douglas, Kyle Williams and backup running backs are players to evaluate for route and touch development rather than force into ordinary Week 1 lineups. A low volume player can score once without becoming a dependable weekly start.

Seattle D/ST is usable for its pressure upside. Seattle recorded 47 sacks in 2025; Maye also took 47. Those Seattle totals and Maye’s record support the matchup concern without predicting a specific sack total. Starting Maye and Seattle D/ST in separate roster decisions is not a contradiction: fantasy scoring rewards different events.

Stevenson receiving: the role is interesting; freshness is the issue. More available work and an established receiving record support the direction of an over lean. However, the cited DraftKings Network page still described Henderson as unlikely to play even though the team had already ruled him out. We cannot prove its 23.5 number was refreshed after the official announcement. Pass unless both the current line and the expected role are independently reconfirmed. Our earlier Patriots at Seahawks prop update explains why preannouncement assumptions were withdrawn.

Price rushing: modest lean, meaningful uncertainty. The 51.5 reference is the more attractive of the two quoted thresholds. Our lean assumes Price receives the lead share of ordinary rushing work; it weakens if Wilson or another back handles a substantial portion. We are not assigning a 100 yard forecast, and we do not extend the same opinion automatically to 53.5 or a larger number.

JSN receptions and Maye touchdowns: comfortable passes. An elite receiver can stay in a fantasy lineup without creating value in every reception market. Likewise, Maye can deliver usable fantasy scoring through rushing and yardage without throwing two touchdowns. Neither a season average nor confidence in a player, by itself, proves that the quoted price is favorable.

Where your platform allows it, use a normal RB or WR slot for an early game starter and preserve a flexible slot for later games.
