Rashid Shaheed Knee Injury: Week 8 Fantasy Fallout for Seahawks WRs

Seattle Seahawks wide receiver Rashid Shaheed was ruled out with a knee injury during Sunday night’s 20-3 win over the Kansas City Chiefs, creating a new Week 8 availability question and a potential opening in Seattle’s receiving and return rotations.

The Seahawks’ official in-game injury update confirmed Shaheed would not return. The club did not announce a diagnosis, timetable or practice outlook, so fantasy managers should treat his status as uncertain—not assume a multiweek absence.

What happened to Rashid Shaheed?

Shaheed left before halftime after a collision with teammate Jaxon Smith-Njigba on a Sam Darnold interception, according to the game broadcast and postgame reporting. He initially carried a questionable designation before Seattle downgraded him to out.

His final line was two receptions for one yard on three targets. The Week 7 box score shows that Seattle still generated 257 passing yards, but almost all of the explosive production flowed through Smith-Njigba.

Why the injury matters for Seattle’s passing game

Shaheed entered the night with 14 catches for 162 yards on 27 targets. That is modest fantasy volume, but his speed changes coverage and his role spans offense and special teams. Seattle lost both that field-stretching element and a return option when he exited.

Smith-Njigba was already the unquestioned centerpiece and reinforced that status with nine catches for 150 yards and a touchdown. Shaheed’s absence would not change Smith-Njigba’s starting status; it could add routes and high-value downfield opportunities, though defenses may devote even more attention to him.

Cooper Kupp caught both of his targets for 20 yards. He would be the safest veteran beneficiary if Shaheed misses time, but Sunday’s usage does not justify treating Kupp as an automatic high-end fantasy starter. His appeal is strongest in deeper PPR formats where short-area volume matters.

Rookie Tory Horton drew one target without a catch and handled return work after Shaheed departed. Horton is the most direct speculative add because he can absorb perimeter routes and special-teams snaps, but his Week 7 receiving workload was too small to support an aggressive waiver bid.

Week 8 fantasy football action plan

  • Rashid Shaheed: Hold in leagues with six or more bench spots. Keep him out of early Week 8 lineups until Seattle provides a diagnosis or meaningful practice participation.

  • Jaxon Smith-Njigba: Remains a must-start WR1. His nine catches for 150 yards and a touchdown against Kansas City confirm the offense still runs through him.

  • Cooper Kupp: A conditional WR3 or flex in deeper PPR leagues if Shaheed sits. Do not project a massive target spike from one two-target game.

  • Tory Horton: A low-cost speculative waiver add in 12-team leagues, especially formats that reward return production. He is not yet a set-and-forget starter.

  • Seattle D/ST and return formats: Monitor who replaces Shaheed on kicks and punts because role changes can affect field position and individual return scoring.

The extra recovery window

Seattle hosts the Chicago Bears on Monday, November 2, giving Shaheed one extra day beyond a standard Sunday turnaround. The official Seahawks schedule confirms the Week 8 Monday night matchup at Lumen Field. That added day helps, but it is not evidence he will play.

The most informative checkpoints will be head coach Mike Macdonald’s first postgame update, Seattle’s initial Week 8 injury report and whether Shaheed can practice by the weekend. Fantasy managers should avoid overreacting to early waiver chatter before those data points arrive.

Bottom line

Shaheed’s knee injury is a real depth-chart and fantasy development, but the severity is unknown. Smith-Njigba remains locked in, Kupp becomes a cautious PPR consideration, and Horton is the upside stash. The smart move is to preserve roster flexibility and let Seattle’s medical updates—not speculation—drive the final Week 8 decision.
