Week 6 Fantasy Sleepers and Streamers: Eight Bye Week Replacement Plans
If you need a Week 6 replacement, start with the position you cannot fill from your bench. Football Nation's preferred sequence is Jordan Love for a quarterback opening, Woody Marks for a running back opening if David Montgomery remains unavailable, Germie Bernard for a receiver opening and Brenton Strange for a tight end opening. Dameon Pierce requires a stricter injury trigger. Chig Okonkwo requires a Monday backup plan. These are conditional lineup decisions, not promises of breakout games.
Information cutoff: October 14, 2026 at 9:55 AM Central. This is the Wednesday edition for the 2026 NFL season, using completed Week 5 games. Sunday practice designations and inactives remain future checkpoints. Format: 12 team redraft, one quarterback, half PPR, four points per passing touchdown, one point per 25 passing yards, one point per ten rushing or receiving yards and six points per rushing or receiving touchdown. Your league's turnover deductions and bonuses govern the final comparison.
The replacement ladder
Cincinnati, Detroit, Miami and Minnesota are on bye. [S1] Waiver processing varies by league, so check available free agents rather than assuming Tuesday claims are still possible. Spend roster space on an actual lineup opening before collecting another speculative bench player. Do not drop a healthy established starter simply because he is unavailable this week.
Your opening | Plan A | Plan B | Decision trigger |
QB | Jordan Love | Aaron Rodgers | Both remain healthy and available |
RB | Woody Marks | Dameon Pierce | Confirm the injured starter and available competition |
WR | Germie Bernard | Keenan Allen | Confirm health and the receiving rotation |
TE | Brenton Strange | Chig Okonkwo | Resolve the Sunday versus Monday lock conflict |
This ladder ranks choices within positions, not against one another. A manager with a usable quarterback and an empty running back slot should prioritize the running back. The rankings below are FN analysis. They are not platform projections or a recommendation to bench your normal starter merely for novelty.
Quarterback: Love first, Rodgers second
Love completed 25 of 31 passes for 367 yards and two touchdowns against Chicago. Green Bay hosts Dallas Sunday night. [S2] [S3] He is a replacement with a convincing recent ceiling, not merely a name left on the wire. FN would use him over a speculative backup whose starting assignment is uncertain. The countercase is that a few long completions can exaggerate the repeatable portion of a passing performance. You need successful drives, not necessarily another 367 yards. Check his health, receiving personnel and the current Lambeau forecast before deciding.
Rodgers threw for 235 yards and three touchdowns against Indianapolis, his third consecutive game with three passing scores. [S4] Pittsburgh travels to Tampa Bay. [S5] That makes him a reasonable alternate when Love is rostered. The danger is touchdown dependence: one fewer scoring throw materially changes a four point passing touchdown result, and Rodgers offers little recent rushing production. [S6] Keep a healthy established starter with a strong role ahead of him. In superflex, secure a confirmed starting quarterback earlier; the scarcity and cost of replacement change completely. Do not apply this one quarterback priority ladder to a two quarterback league.
Running back: Marks has evidence, Pierce has a condition
Marks recorded 15 carries for 62 yards and four receptions for 23 yards against Tennessee. The prior week brought six carries and no receptions. [S7] David Montgomery's groin injury and coach DeMeco Ryans' reported assessment that he is week to week explain the opening. [S8] FN prefers the demonstrated rushing and receiving involvement to a player needing a touchdown on a handful of touches. His floor can still collapse if Montgomery returns or the rotation changes. Before London kickoff, verify availability and the expected division of work. Do not treat last week's 19 touches as a guaranteed Week 6 allocation.
Pierce is the emergency alternate, not an automatic upgrade. Philadelphia's depth chart still places Saquon Barkley and Will Shipley ahead of him. [S9] NBC Sports Philadelphia relayed ESPN's Monday report that Shipley suffered a partial plantar fascia tear, with Barkley already nursing a hamstring injury and Tank Bigsby on injured reserve. [S10] Pierce managed just 14 yards on 11 carries in London. [S20] The important question is who will actually be available against Carolina, not how many names appeared in a Monday injury story. [S11] If Barkley returns to his normal role, remove Pierce from your lineup plan. If Pierce leads the available group, he becomes a volume driven emergency play. The countercase is that opportunity alone cannot repair poor blocking or create efficient touches.
Receiver: Bernard for upside, Allen for a steadier assignment
Bernard caught six of nine targets for 80 yards against Indianapolis. [S6] Pittsburgh confirmed Michael Pittman Jr. is on injured reserve and described further receiving injuries to Roman Wilson and Ben Skowronek. [S5] NFL tracking credited Bernard with 28 routes, tied with DK Metcalf. [S12] That is the sleeper signal: meaningful participation followed by meaningful targets. FN would use him to fill a third receiver or FLEX vacancy. The strongest countercase is that one game does not establish Rodgers' permanent target hierarchy. Downgrade him if the next personnel update adds competition or suggests a smaller assignment. Do not displace a healthy receiver with an established heavy workload solely because Bernard is new.
Allen drew nine targets and caught five for 45 yards in the same game. [S6] Indianapolis hosts Tennessee. [S13] He is an alternate for managers who need catches more than a long touchdown. In half PPR, his five receptions supplied 2.5 points before yardage; in full PPR they supplied five. That difference makes the format matter when comparing him with a downfield option. A conservative completion pattern can also cap his ceiling. Check the Colts' injury report and receiver rotation rather than assuming last week's target count will persist. FN prefers him as a replacement for an empty slot, not as a reason to overrule a healthy productive bench receiver.
Tight end: Strange first, Okonkwo only with the calendar solved
Strange followed seven receptions for 95 yards in Week 4 with seven for 68 in Week 5. [S14] Those consecutive catch totals are a stronger streaming foundation than a single touchdown. FN would use him for a bye or injury opening before taking a pure scoring gamble. The countercase is that two games can still overstate a player's permanent place in a crowded passing offense. Houston is the opponent at Wembley on Sunday, with an 8:30 AM Central kickoff. [S15] Confirm his status before that early lock, not at the usual noon lineup check.
Okonkwo caught four passes for 60 yards against the Giants after two for five in Week 4. [S16] FantasyPros credited him with six Week 5 targets. [S17] That improvement earns consideration, not equal standing with Strange. Washington visits San Francisco Monday at 7:15 PM Central. [S18] A manager who waits for a Sunday scratch cannot assume a Monday tight end remains available. If you choose Okonkwo, retain a legal replacement who plays at the same time or later and understand your platform's roster locks. His previous quiet game is the counterargument. FN would change the recommendation if practice reports limit him or another tight end takes the receiving assignment.
Availability is a snapshot, not your league
CBS published roster rates: Rodgers 38 percent, Bernard seven percent, Allen 45 percent, Strange 50 percent. [S19] These were checked at 9:55 AM Central on October 14 and describe CBS's published snapshot, not your league. A current Yahoo page could not be retrieved, and the accessible ESPN lookup resolved to Week 5 material. No Yahoo or ESPN percentage is inferred. Search your own player pool before spending or dropping anyone.
The FN checkpoint
The best sleeper is the player with a job your lineup needs, evidence he can receive the ball and a backup plan if the facts change. Recheck Wednesday and Thursday participation, Friday designations, Saturday transactions and game day inactives. Confirm London players first. Keep later starters in FLEX slots when your format permits. FN's conclusion: prioritize verified opportunity, protect your established starters and never let a late injury turn a calculated replacement into an avoidable zero.
