Week 5 Fantasy Usage Report: Snaps, Routes and Valuable Touches for Week 6

6 min read

The best Week 6 clue is who keeps earning opportunities when touchdowns disappear. Malik Nabers' restored playing time matters more than one box score. Chicago's expanded receiver snaps need a game script filter. Bucky Irving's scoring access matters more than projecting another 165 rushing yards. James Cook's Monday workload corrected the previous week's concern, but ball security creates a new checkpoint. These eight cases explain what to trust and what to watch.

Information cutoff: October 14, 2026 at 9:57 AM Central. This report includes the completed Week 5 slate through Buffalo's Monday win at Los Angeles. Recommendations assume 12 team redraft, one quarterback and half PPR. Official team reporting anchors game events and box scores; independent charting supplies route and participation data where labeled. We do not invent missing routes, end zone targets or carries inside the five. FN interpretation is analysis, not a claim that these roles are guaranteed.

Read the denominator before the number

Snaps include blocking plays. Route participation measures entry into the passing pattern under the provider's charting definition. Targets measure intended passes. Not every touch has equal scoring potential: receptions and carries near the goal line can matter more than ordinary rushes. Game script, injuries and personnel choices can distort one week's share. Compare the same metric across the same period before declaring a promotion.

Eight workload signals to carry into Week 6

Player

Supported signal

FN reading

Malik Nabers, Giants

52 percent snaps in Week 1; 90 percent in Week 5

Restored participation is the durable signal

Isaiah Likely, Giants

13 Week 5 targets; 9.4 targets per game this season

Volume supports value beyond two touchdowns

Rome Odunze, Bears

68 of 69 offensive snaps; nine targets

Work remained despite a poor result

Luther Burden III, Bears

56 percent snaps in Week 4; 77 percent in Week 5

Improvement, but game script may exaggerate it

Makai Lemon, Eagles

88.4 percent route participation; seven targets

Passing access improved during receiver absences

Jacory Croskey Merritt, Commanders

22 official snaps; 16 percent charted route share

Rushing efficiency did not create a receiving role

Bucky Irving, Buccaneers

21 carries; half the charted attempts inside the five

Watch scoring access, not just long runs

James Cook III, Bills

12 carries in Week 4; 25 in Week 5

Volume rebounded; ball security remains relevant

Malik Nabers: the injury discount is a different question now

Fantasy Footballers tracks Nabers' snap share rising from 52 percent in Week 1 to 90 percent in Week 5. New York confirms his 20 targets, 11 catches, 121 yards and touchdown against Washington. The before and after here is participation, not a declaration that 20 targets will recur. [S1] [S2]

FN action: core starter when available. The restored workload argues against prolonged participation restrictions. The objection is target concentration during a comeback, with another major weapon sharing the offense. Fewer targets alone would not mean a demotion. The checkpoint is whether normal competitive possessions preserve his role; unexplained retreats in routes or snaps would concern us. Verify health before lock.

Isaiah Likely: targets are the argument, not the touchdown pair

Likely caught 11 of 13 targets for 94 yards and two touchdowns. Fantasy Life reports 9.4 targets per game and a 30 percent target share for the season. The Giants say Likely and Nabers combined for 52 targets over their last two games. That is a sustained concentration of passing work, even though the scoring peak is not a weekly forecast. [S1] [S3]

FN action: primary tight end, not a touchdown chase. The counterargument is a cooler passing environment lowering opportunities for both weapons. A quarterback change would require a fresh evaluation. Watch whether he maintains a substantial share without a comeback script. Exact routes and end zone targets were not verified here, so neither is presented as fact.

Rome Odunze and Luther Burden III: participation is necessary, not sufficient

Sports Illustrated's published snap table gives Odunze 68 of Chicago's 69 offensive snaps and Burden 53, or 77 percent. Fantasy Footballers records Burden at 56 percent in Week 4 and Odunze with nine Week 5 targets but only three catches for 30 yards. The gain in Burden's share is real; the loss at Green Bay also encouraged three receiver personnel and passing work. [S2] [S4]

FN action: consider Odunze weekly; poor conversion did not erase his opportunities. Hold Burden on deeper benches without automatically promoting him. The objection is offensive quality: snaps do not guarantee catchable passes. Atlanta is the next checkpoint, with quarterback availability verified before lock. Look for this allocation to survive a closer game. Burden's routes and the pair's end zone targets were unavailable and are not inferred from snaps.

Makai Lemon: a modest score can hide the better signal

Fantasy Life charted Lemon at 88.4 percent route participation against Jacksonville, with seven targets and five catches for 43 yards. Its comparison describes that as his most involved passing role this season. Philadelphia's final Week 5 injury report confirms DeVonta Smith was absent with a hamstring injury. [S13] [S14]

FN action: developing bench receiver, not unquestioned starter. Routes create future target chances that a highlight alone cannot. The counterargument is that absences supplied part of the opening. Check Smith's participation and the rotation before repeating this projection. Similar involvement with a healthier roster strengthens Lemon's longer term case; reduced routes would identify a temporary opportunity.

Jacory Croskey Merritt: the touchdown did not fix the floor

Washington confirms 82 rushing yards and a touchdown, with 22 offensive snaps compared with Rachaad White's 37. Fantasy Life charts Croskey Merritt with a 16 percent route share and an unchanged 35 percent snap share. His 11 carries produced a strong rushing result, but he did not earn a target. [S3] [S5] [S15]

FN action: conditional rushing FLEX, not protection from negative game script. Efficiency could encourage change; it does not prove change occurred. White's greater playing time is the objection. Upgrade only if passing or late possession work expands. Check the allocation at San Francisco with a backup ready. Conflicting White percentages are omitted in favor of official raw snaps.

Bucky Irving: watch where the work happens

Irving rose from 61 rushing yards against Green Bay in Week 4 to 165 on 21 carries at Dallas. He scored on the ground and through the air. Fantasy Life charts him with 60 percent of short down and distance snaps and 50 percent of carries inside the five in Week 5. Those scoring opportunities are separate from explosive rushing efficiency. [S3] [S6] [S7]

FN action: keep starting him. The objection is specific: Bowles described distributing work among three backs and extending productive stretches. Thursday's allocation may reflect flexibility, not a permanent monopoly. Pittsburgh tests whether scoring access persists. Another competitive game with meaningful scoring chances strengthens confidence; losing those chances lowers the ceiling. Last week's 7.9 yards per carry is not a forecast.

James Cook III: Monday repaired volume, not every risk

Cook had 12 carries for 75 yards in Week 4, then 25 carries for 111 yards and two rushing touchdowns Monday. ESPN's box score verifies the latter rushing line; Buffalo confirms his yardage and scoring plays. He also caught one pass for seven yards and lost a fumble. [S8] [S9] [S10] [S11] [S16]

FN action: keep starting him. More than doubling the attempts corrects the volume concern without proving a receiving breakout. Ball security and Allen's rushing role are the objections. At Las Vegas, watch the early rotation and competitive possessions for redirected work after mistakes. Do not assume another 25 carries. Exact Monday routes and snaps were unavailable and are omitted.

The FN monitoring order

Verify health, then participation, passing access and scoring opportunities. Judge points last. Official Week 6 matchups confirm Bears at Falcons, Saints at Giants, Steelers at Buccaneers, Bills at Raiders and Commanders at 49ers. [S12] Football Nation's conclusion: upgrade durable access, not last week's touchdown rate. One game introduces a hypothesis; the next competitive game tests it.
