Seahawks Bring Back Montorie Foster Jr., Malick Meiga: Week 8 Fantasy Impact

The Seattle Seahawks brought two familiar receivers back into the building Tuesday, October 27, signing Montorie Foster Jr. and Malick Meiga to the practice squad. The move adds developmental depth before a Monday night Week 8 matchup with Chicago, but it does not place either receiver on the 53-player roster or make either one a plug-and-play fantasy option.

The useful fantasy takeaway is restraint. Rashid Shaheed left Seattle’s Week 7 win with a knee injury, and coach Mike Macdonald said Monday that the early news was positive while stopping short of offering a timetable. Foster and Meiga now give Seattle contingency options, but the club has not announced that either receiver will be elevated for Week 8.

What Seattle changed

Seattle’s official transaction notice says Foster and Meiga were signed to the practice squad. Fullback Jackson Acker and linebacker Josh Ross were released from the unit to create the two openings.

That distinction matters. Practice-squad receivers can practice and develop with the team, but they are not automatically part of the game-day offense. Seattle would still need to elevate one for the Bears game or sign him to the active roster before he could play.

Montorie Foster Jr. returns after a short absence

Foster’s return is the more relevant of the two moves for the immediate depth chart. Seattle signed him as an undrafted rookie in 2025, kept him in the program and watched him earn an initial 53-player roster spot this season. He appeared in one regular-season game without recording a target.

His preseason production explains why Seattle wanted to keep the relationship alive. Foster led the Seahawks with seven receptions for 73 yards and a touchdown during the 2026 preseason. The club waived him Saturday when guard Anthony Bradford was activated from injured reserve; three days later, Foster was back on the practice squad.

That résumé makes Foster a logical first call if Seattle needs another outside receiver, but it does not guarantee a Week 8 elevation or offensive snaps.

Malick Meiga adds size, not an immediate projection

Meiga is a 6-foot-4, 205-pound rookie who spent training camp with Carolina before joining Seattle’s practice squad in September. The Seahawks released him earlier in October and have now brought him back.

Across Penn State and Coastal Carolina, Meiga totaled 33 catches for 430 yards and two touchdowns. He has not appeared in an NFL regular-season game, so his value to Seattle is developmental and matchup-specific rather than established production. He also offers a bigger body type than Foster, giving the practice offense a different receiver profile.

How Rashid Shaheed’s knee affects the move

Shaheed caught two passes for one yard before leaving Sunday night’s 20-3 win over Kansas City with a knee injury. Macdonald said the initial returns were positive, but he also said the length of any absence was not yet clear.

That uncertainty makes the extra receiver depth timely without proving that the transaction was a direct response to Shaheed’s injury. Seattle has until Monday, November 2, before hosting the Bears at 5:15 p.m. Pacific, so the first Week 8 practice report and any game-day elevation will carry more weight than the practice-squad signings alone.

Week 8 fantasy football impact

Foster and Meiga are not standard-league waiver claims. Neither has a confirmed game-day role, and a practice-squad transaction does not create a target projection.

Foster is the deeper watch-list name because he made the initial roster, appeared in a regular-season game and produced during the preseason. Even so, fantasy managers should require two pieces of evidence before reacting: an official elevation or active-roster promotion, and clarity that Shaheed will miss the Bears game.

If Shaheed is active, Foster and Meiga are likely to remain depth pieces. If Shaheed is out and Foster is elevated, Foster could help cover perimeter and special-teams snaps, but he would still be a speculative play behind Seattle’s established pass-catching options. Meiga belongs on dynasty scouting lists rather than redraft rosters.

What to monitor before Seahawks vs. Bears

The first official Week 8 practice report: this will show whether Shaheed practices and how Seattle lists the knee injury.

Seattle’s transaction wire: an elevation or 53-player promotion would be the clearest sign that Foster or Meiga could dress.

The inactive list: final game-day availability will determine whether the signings remain developmental depth or become part of the Monday night plan.

Bottom line

Seattle restored two receivers it already knows at a moment when Shaheed’s Week 8 status is unsettled. Foster has the clearer short-term path because of his preseason production and prior roster spot, while Meiga is a size-and-development addition. For fantasy managers, the correct move is to watch the injury report and transaction wire—not spend waiver priority yet.
