2026 AFC South Predictions: Final Rankings, Records and Playoff Calls

The AFC South follows the consensus order in my 2026 predictions, but the playoff picture is more selective than the standings alone might suggest. I used ESPN’s preseason power panel, published August 31, 2026, as the consensus baseline and ordered the four teams according to their leaguewide positions.

My records come from the final Football Nation USA schedule graphics. My playoff calls come from my completed AFC field. That distinction matters most for Jacksonville, which remains a wild card contender at 9 wins but does not make my final seven. Both ranking sections below run from fourth place to first, saving the division winner for last.

4. Tennessee Titans: 5 wins and 12 losses. Playoffs: OUT. Fourth in the AFC South.
3. Indianapolis Colts: 7 wins and 10 losses. Playoffs: OUT. Third in the AFC South.
2. Jacksonville Jaguars: 9 wins and 8 losses. Playoffs: OUT. Second in the AFC South.
1. Houston Texans: 10 wins and 7 losses. Playoffs: IN. AFC South champion.
The playoff picture
Only one AFC South team makes my playoffs. Houston wins the division and enters the postseason. Jacksonville, Indianapolis and Tennessee are all out.
4. Tennessee Titans: 5 wins and 12 losses
Tennessee starts with a win over the Jets but then drops five straight games. The Titans later beat Cleveland, Jacksonville, Indianapolis and Las Vegas. Those victories show some progress, but losses throughout the rest of the schedule produce a 5 win season. My picks have Tennessee finishing behind every other team in the division.
Offseason context: Tennessee built a new operation around Cam Ward by hiring Robert Saleh and Brian Daboll, then adding Wan’Dale Robinson and No. 4 pick Carnell Tate. Jermaine Johnson and John Franklin Myers reshape the pass rush around extended star Jeffery Simmons.
Final playoff call: OUT. Tennessee remains in a rebuilding season and finishes outside the postseason.
3. Indianapolis Colts: 7 wins and 10 losses
Indianapolis produces a few notable results, including two victories over Houston in my schedule picks. The Colts also beat Tennessee, Minnesota, Miami, Cleveland and Jacksonville. The problem is the number of losses around those division wins. Defeats against Baltimore, Kansas City, Washington, Pittsburgh, Jacksonville, Dallas, the Giants, Philadelphia, Tennessee and Cincinnati leave Indianapolis three games below .500.
Offseason context: Indianapolis committed two years and $88 million to Daniel Jones after his Achilles recovery, while Anthony Richardson competes for the backup role. Alec Pierce and Jonathan Taylor received extensions, Keenan Allen arrived, and a younger defense must absorb the exits of Zaire Franklin, Kwity Paye and Nick Cross.
Final playoff call: OUT. Seven wins are not enough to keep Indianapolis in the AFC playoff field.
2. Jacksonville Jaguars: 9 wins and 8 losses
Jacksonville remains in the race until the end. The Jaguars open 1 and 3, then revive the season with London victories over Philadelphia and Houston. Wins over Indianapolis, the Giants, Tennessee, Chicago, Pittsburgh and Washington push Jacksonville above .500. Losses to Houston, Dallas and Indianapolis during the closing stretch keep the Jaguars from taking the division or securing one of my final wild card spots.
Offseason context: Jacksonville chose continuity after a 13 win season, with Trevor Lawrence healthy and Travon Walker extended. The bigger questions are replacing Travis Etienne with a committee, replacing Devin Lloyd, and surviving Patrick Mekari’s back surgery with trade addition Daniel Faalele.
Final playoff call: OUT. Jacksonville is a legitimate wild card contender, but my final call is OUT because the AFC field fills ahead of the Jaguars.
1. Houston Texans: 10 wins and 7 losses
Houston takes a difficult route to the division title. My picks have the Texans at 3 wins and 5 losses after their first eight games, with early defeats against Buffalo, Indianapolis, Dallas, Jacksonville and the Chargers. The season changes after that point. Houston closes 7 and 2, beating Cleveland, Baltimore, Pittsburgh, Washington, Jacksonville, Green Bay and Tennessee while losing only to Indianapolis and Philadelphia.
Offseason context: Houston rebuilt the offense around C.J. Stroud by trading for David Montgomery and adding Braden Smith, Wyatt Teller and Evan Brown up front. Jayden Higgins’s season ending knee injury forced late receiver moves, while extensions for Will Anderson Jr., Danielle Hunter and Azeez Al Shaair keep the defensive core intact.
Final playoff call: IN. That strong finish delivers the AFC South title and an automatic playoff berth.
What I have different from the consensus
From fourth place to first, the consensus order is Tennessee Titans, Indianapolis Colts, Jacksonville Jaguars and Houston Texans. My order is Tennessee Titans, Indianapolis Colts, Jacksonville Jaguars and Houston Texans.
The important difference is the playoff outcome. Jacksonville reaches 9 wins and stays in the wild card discussion, but I do not place the Jaguars in my final AFC field. Houston is the division’s only playoff team.
Final division verdict
Houston wins the AFC South at 10 wins and 7 losses. Jacksonville finishes second at 9 wins and 8 losses but misses the playoffs. Indianapolis and Tennessee finish below .500 and remain outside the postseason.

Consensus source: ESPN Preseason NFL Power Rankings 2026. ESPN published the ranking on August 31, 2026 and says its power panel includes more than a dozen NFL analysts. I used the leaguewide order only to create the division consensus. The records and playoff calls are Football Nation USA predictions.
